4.
Having said that I was definitely up for this, it turns out that I can't make it. I've had to rearrange a couple of my weekends with the kids, and as a result 10th/11th is now one of them. I'm really sorry about this, I was looking forward to coming along and bringing the Shuker/Wal/Genz/Nemesis lurrve Hope you guys have a great time, and a million thanks to you John for all your organisational work. Gutted.
Thanks Rich, no worries, kids come first every time mate! Maybe the Bristol posse can organise something next time? Looking forward to seeing your Wood&Waltronicker fanned fretless sometime. John
5.
Looks like we're going to have a car hired that day so there's a fair chance of me turning up with a couple of basses
Great stuff!...Salisbury Massive on tour!
6.
gonna take the missus out for the day and I just decided Shaftsbury sounds like a nice place to visit and the 11th of July seems like a good day to visit it
Very thoughtful hubby thou art, she's a lucky girl. There's a costa in town.....right by gold hill...nice
7. New, unused, Tanglewood acoustic. Indiana series, TGA STR DLX model. Been set up as soon as it was received and has new set of Martin SP 12's on. Lovely player. Low action. Bought for DADGAD, but will just change tuning on my existing acoustic between songs. Might post, if I can get some decent boxes from mates shop. Might be interested in trade for 6 string electric.
8. This started out as a Vintage branded P bass. I gigged with it as a back up bass and it sounded great in the 3 piece pop/rock outfit. Bought a MightMite Jazz neck for a start and sent it to my local tech to replace existing neck. The Fender jazz logo was on the neck when bought from here. It has been lacquered and has a nice satin finish. Got it back yesterday, neck put on, lovely set up, new Elites...I think it looks pretty with pearloid plate too. The body has some dings and marks on the back, but can't be seen from front...obviously. Included some original prebuild pics too. So.....P bass, with Jazz neck. Ta, John

13. Would Mastic get Elastic when hot?...just a thought. That would be drastic. fantastic, elastic mastic???
14. Bumped up for sale now. And more pics, with Fat Beams on. John PS just to say, on Ebay as not sure if this will get much interest here, Ta.
15. Still on folks. Got Derek Haliday from H guitars http://www.hallidayguitars.co.uk/ coming to do a slot on set ups, construction and general guitar care. Derek has a great reputation amongst the local bass/guitar fraternity as providing the best setups, repairs and instrument care. He will do a quick chat and then be around to answer any questions. I know for a fact that he will be bringing some interesting basses along too. Local bass player Ian Aird will be doing a mad jam demo too. For those that don't know Ian, he is an amazing player who thinks completely outside the "usual" constraints of the bass, and has a pretty decent CV too. Watch him play his 6 string Shergold bass and be prepared for your flabber to be seriously ghasted! More updates to follow. John PS still be nice for folk to let me know who's coming for defo plz? For numbers.
16. Was it this one? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=34298&hl=YouMa Looks nice? P/J config always looks tempting.
17.
Aged white pearloid. White pearl is usually too bright for me, but a nice creamy aged pearl looks classy on vintage colours including sunburst
Defo. Got a S/Burst P with aged white pearloid, think it looks gert lush.
18. Not endorsed by anyone...but I am a walking advert for all Cadbury's & Walkers products. My 2 pennies worth are as follows: I've had 3 Pro-Fet amps, they have all had surprisingly warm tones, but all 3 have had a horrible buzz at any decent volume, or crapped out mid gig. Warwick did repair one which was under warranty, but it had to go back to Germany. I've also used Warwick 4x10 & 1x15 cabs, and they were good. I have now settled on Mark bass, as reliability is more important to me as a gigging player. I would stick with GK if you want to retain a reliable amp.....just ask for a cab or two if you want to get something at a discount price and have an endorsement? John
19. Dave's first transaction on BC and he was a gentleman.....don't get GAS Dave, there's no cure mate! Bought a modded OLP ThingRay, good comms & paid uber-quick too. Cheers, John
20.
I'll try to come. It's a bit of a trek from Bristol (1h15 apparently) but sounds like good fun. How does it work, do people usually bring their whole rig to set up? - martin
Hi Martin, I've never been to one before, but thought it would be fun to get together, so went ahead and booked a venue on the basis that the least we could do would be put a face to a name, chat about music, life and the universe and ogle each others gear. From the threads of other bashes it looks like you bring whatever you fancy bringing along. I've booked a drummer for some "jam" time, and I'm waiting for some replies from reps about odds and sods for fund raising prize draw, etc. Hopefully a local tech will be coming too to offer advice on general guitar care and set ups. I might be the only one there, so I get all the goodies! .......for the price of several tickets. John
21. Bought Jazz bass from Keith, well packed and lovely bass, thanks. Top guy. Cheers, John
22.
Bargin!
Totally! These little things stopped my amp GAS.
23.
I'd probably take my double bass. Being on a desert Island would probably give me an incentive to practice with it and get some sort of technique together!
+1 I'd take mine too. When you've had enough, at least you've got the option of sitting on it and rowing home.
24. Sorry to hear about your experience. I've too have worked in retail and the first rule is, if you get it wrong (& even if you haven't) you count to 10 and apologise, the customer feels they have been heard and they generally come back. I would follow it up, they've had your money, you've not got your goods....end of. But +1 for CH, absolute first class...... Best wishes.
