  1. Came across this today. I remember seeing this performance as a 14 year old and being blown away, great musicians (I was in love with the singer too)
  2. Lindy Fralin Standard P pups, with white covers. Came out of a bitsa I bought. Decided to put the same SD vintage pups in both my P basses. All working well. Come with screws but not original ones. Spec https://www.fralinpickups.com/product/p-bass/ £80 posted
  3. It’s been a loooooong time since I last played a large festival, so I’m not experienced like a lot of you guys here. But from watching last night, it appears that, as long as you have a front person that can engage the crowd right from the start, you’ll do ok. Big difference with the 2 front people last night. One gave the band and crowd confidence, the other not so much. It was nice they got to play, although the whole “your dreams can come true” was a bit overplayed. I’ve not seen Leburn busk in town, but I’d happily go see him play locally as I think he’s got great feel and tone. He’ll probably get a lot more higher profile gigs now though. So unlikely to play down the road at the Kebab and Calculator anymore 😢
  4. 60’s Kay 70’s Audition 80’s Fender 90’s Hondo 00’s Marlin 10’s Wish 20’s MD Phillips
  5. A 2 hour journey to spend time in a studio with an artist you like? I’ve done the same playing for people I don’t like. 😂
  6. Other than back line and basses, I always pack the following: A torch A towel Mic stand drink holder Coloured leads (not black) Deodorant Stage clothes Pre/Post gig clothes (including comfy shoes) Sharpie A4 pad Batteries Fluorescent stickers amongst a few other things
  7. It’s not a documentary, he would have been directed, I would image. I find it hard to believe he would have found any of the songs difficult either. I found it laughable the way the MD was thanking him for practicing and getting the parts right. Anyhoo it’s just silly TV, not worth getting het up about.
  8. Ever practical, thinking ahead, all about the timing. Bass player.
  9. Spoiler alert…but best line yet ”as long as I can have a wee within next 20 minutes, I’ll have beer now”😂😂
  10. Maybe it’s a term describing how one used to be an “Udos” I know I can still be a proper Udos at times.
  11. My brother and I always pronounce Takamine as an Italian offering their guitar to you. But then we’re weird and inappropriate like that.
  12. They’re all pronounced ”can’t afford it”
  13. My training (and job) is facilitating group work programmes for male perpetrators of violence. So I’m in a room with a group of very angry and potentially dangerous men. I love my job, always feel in control, can hold the rooms attention without issue, and challenge peoples behaviour without any anxiety. Put me on a stage with a bass round my neck, having rehearsed parts to beyond knowing them, and I have no idea what to do with myself, I’m so self conscious I hate it. I love playing with others and often end up MD for bands I play in, so it’s not lacking confidence over my ability to play. But as soon as I think people are looking at me I hate it and just feel awkward and silly. I can’t stand watching videos of gigs or photos as I look like I’m a statue or not wanting to be there. Bizarrely if on the rare occasion I’m fronting a band singing, I’m ok. Go figure….weirdo eh?
  14. Me and my mate sat in the cinema and watched “Slade in Flame” on repeat. That’s when we decided to form our first band. Happy memories
  15. Gordon Brown as the policeman!? Great casting.
  16. Oh mate, that’s frustrating. Perhaps it’s time to let your “No” be “no”? It’s the only way people learn to respect boundaries. I once sat down with a pastor and his assistant to explain that I wanted to take time out from music in church as I was tired and had a lot going on at home and a responsible job that demanded my time. They we’re very good and sympathetic and supported the decision. 2 weeks later I was approached with “I know you’ve stepped down, but can you do the worship this week?” Along with a pastors wife telling me off for stepping down as I obviously didn’t know the importance of “my calling”. Church can be a wonderful place of joy, support and friendship. But man alive! Boundaries? What are those? Hope you are able to say something to help protect your space, it’s important. Otherwise you’ll become a grumpy old cynic like me 🙄😂
