Just seen this. Really not helpful! In fact I’ve contacted them to ask about import duty costs. Neck through, Kent Armstrong pups, Grover tuners. Very tempting

Hello! I find the neck profile, nut width and string spacing on these old Korean basses perfect for a 5 string. However the electrics and pups are underwhelming to my ears. So am modding one (including a defret) I’ve recently acquired. What say you, the BC massive? Pickups: My favourite pups are Bartolinis, so likely to replace with some Barts. Will require some widening of cavities as I believe the factory pups are 4 string’ers. Pre amp: My initial thought was for a “drop in” P Retro, but I would need to add a blend pot or switch. Don’t want to spend a fortune, maybe £300 on the parts? Here’s a stock pic:

Sourcing an Unlined fretless neck with maple board
oldslapper replied to oldslapper's topic in General Discussion
I should have been clearer, I’m after a P neck with unlined maple board. Not a fingerboard to fit onto an existing neck. Cheers 😎 -
Other than getting one made by one of the many excellent uk Luthiers, I’m having difficulties sourcing one off the shelf. Seems rosewood and ebony are readily available, but not maple boards. Found a Chinese based eBay seller, but never having bought direct I have no idea of quality and what import expenses will be added. 😤😩😭

So, I ordered and paid for a 6 string bass on New Year’s Eve and received it yesterday. So is that just “making it” before the deadline, or epic early fail? If the former, then I’m in!

Might be a Jaydee owners Facebook community? Worth putting a plea out there? I guess pass on as much info as you’ve got and you’re happy divulging. I sold a mid 70’s Fender precision fretless for peanuts to a music exchange shop in Notting hill to pay rent back in 1988. That bass got me a lot of work back then, and I miss it every day. Unlikely to ever afford to replace it now. Good luck with your search.

I stayed in touch with Thumper after his Finnbass demise.

Yes Nigel(??) did like a spat, although I didn’t mind his confrontational approach. Waynepunkdude is the only member I’ve had a keyboard confrontation with here though. Spurs fan, so that’s probably why. 😂

Seems only fair, given that BE owned every bass player 😂

Yeah. I’m thinking rehearsing with a couple in a band situation might be best. Not having experience of pedals, I can see that it could be a deep old rabbit hole, bit like double bass strings.

Been looking at one of those Stew, they look like a lot of fun. I think I need to try some different pedals in a rehearsal to get some “sonic context”.

I do simple. I like simple. I play P basses. Simple 😂 However, for this project I am using a 5 string MM, so that’s more strings and controls than my brain usually has to deal with. An additional element needs to be as simple as possible. 🤪

I bought a Boss FT-2 the other day. Sounded great, but made me realise that “synth” is more what I’m after for the music we write.

I found it interesting how little they appeared to know about the kit they were using. PM stating he didn’t know what the controls did on his bass. JL didn’t appear to realise his guitar was out of tune. I found it refreshing how un-nerdy about gear they appeared to be.

Doh! Sorry 🤦🏻♂️
