Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
oldslapper replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I’ve been asked to Dep for a festival gig, end of May bank holiday. They seem very confident it’s going ahead. Don’t know how I feel about it. I’m not looking forward to loud volumes again. -
Ruff McKagan? Richard Bonio?

I watched an episode of the guitarist competition last night with Tony Visconti and some other dudes judging it. Interesting range of ages and players. -
I’m too old to slap, so count me and Lilla in! 😊

You’d have thought they’d be a fan of Bark King but maybe not Flea’s

I love the TC voicelive pedals or their harmony singer. I’ve used both live.

In my top 10 fav singists. Listening to a bit o’ Queen with PR after the programme, and I preferred his sound to FM. Probably sacrilege I know, but seemed to suit the feel of the band more. OVMV -

I can’t go to Penzance until restrictions are lifted. 😊

Looking back at my contributions to this thread, they are pretty negative. I’m sorry, I’ve kind of derailed what should be (and is) an encouraging place. P&L John 👍🏻

It’s ok, I wasn’t rude or anything. I stopped a few years back. I’m not cut out for it. 😊 my wife says I’m too grumpy 😂

I have no filters in those situations.

It would depend on the speaker. Visiting ones would get the “I don’t know that one, but I’m sure if there’s someone here who does we can play along” into the mic, hoping that someone would start it from the congregation, or another musician over 80 would know it. I would say the same to “In house” preachers, but with a “you have my number, why didn’t you call to say what was on your mind before” look.

I stand behind the 2 backing vox. As a result no one is remotely interested in what I look like or what I’m up to.

I always felt the amount of time church musicians/PA peeps give each week is not understood. My experience back in the day was arrive at 08:30 leave at 13:30 and a similar amount in the evening. Add a couple of hours rehearsal during the week, plus preparation throughout the week, if you’re “leading” along with personal practice. Add any special services/conferences. It always made me laugh/sigh when a speaker would turn round and say at the end of their preach “I’d like to sing (insert some random song I’d never heard of)” without any pre warning or contact during week. “Go ahead” would be my reply, I’m not stopping you”😂 I will say however that I learned a lot about improv and listening to an MD when I started playing in church, so I always encouraged youngsters to get involved to develop their aural skills.

Have been thinking the same, but decided to just get furniture, electrics, heating and light up to the building, but not store anything. I’d be too worried all the time. We have a Rottweiler, but she’s likely to “cute” an assailant into submission currently, things will change in a few months mind. Is the building near to the main house? That is a factor.

Some lovely videos peeps have posted here, it does my head in how people put these things together. CCW industry is exactly that, it’s no different from mainstream industry, in that it’s about shifting a product and creating a desire for more of the same. I was involved in CCW in the 80’s-90’s and saw a huge change in direction from considered and skilled songwriting, to the emphasis on production, to sell a product. I haven’t been to a church meeting/service for years now, not because of a falling out with anyone, just a shift in my belief system. But I wish church musicians were encouraged to study the great writers like Lennon/McCartney, C Porter, Paul Simon, H Carmichael, etc who could write a song with prosody and arrangement that was challenging for the musician to play, but appealed to the masses who could sing along. Anyway, sorry to derail what is an encouraging thread for church bassists. Ignore me, who? 😊

These usually have 2 J’s despite being a P model (presumably because of the body) But as you said Mick, it’s really hard to see if the bridge pup is there. I had one many years ago, great bass for the money.
