  1. I had a lovely Washburn acoustic that had it. There was not even the slightest feint of buzz and it stayed in tune, so I assumed it worked as described. The luthier chap who did my set ups tried to explain it to me, but I glazed over at approximately 3.5 seconds in.
  2. Always been intrigued by these instruments. But you’re right @pedwe don’t want this to turn into a Marcos Del Felipez thread (of which I admit to often being a protagonist). GLWTS
  3. I have asked sellers to slacken TR tension before sending a bass to me, if the neck wasn’t able to be removed. Probably over cautious, but in my head I feel happier that neck tension is one less stress on the bass in transit. No science to back it up, just my anxiety levels.
  4. He’s hardly Donal MacIntyre, but presumably thinks he is some kind of investigative journalist. Give some people a camera and WiFi 🙄 Just get in touch with the company, and if they don’t sort it, then go to the press. Unless your need to be “looked at” outweighs your moral outrage of course.
  5. If you can wait (then first off you’re a better person than I) until after lockdown, then if possible visit retailers, even better with a trusted bass playing buddy, and try a load.
  6. A band is for life not just for Christmas 😂
  7. Great attention given to the description. 🤦🏻‍♂️
  8. I think we tend to hear more horror stories than “no incident” accounts to be fair. It’s likely that most pub gigs go without incident, but that’s not much of a story is it? Dependent on the reputation of the pub in question of course, but I’ve seen as many fights, stooopid behaviour at weddings/club gigs as pub gigs. Alcohol + human can equal @resehole, geography isn’t the issue. At least with most pub gigs you’re likely to finish at 11:00-12:00, but with less pay. As opposed to function gig that may pay better, but often finish later. Maybe try a couple of gigs, see how it goes?
  9. I’ll take the match if you decide to part out (if someone just wants the keyboard). 🤓
  10. My daughter went to one of his “gigs” couple of years ago. She loved it, great music, danced from beginning to end. She hates clubs due to the inane sh1te music (aimed at the hard of thinking). But his funk soul set was fab she reckoned.
  11. All my instruments are out, on stands so I can pick them out and play them. I have terrible self discipline so if they’re in a case I tend not to play them. The stands they’re on vary from neck held to bottom rested. If I were a rich man (divva divva divva do) I might buy more basses than I need, or have space for. In which case I’d move my son out into the shed and have them out on stands there too. At least he can keep his sister company. 👍🏻
  12. Thanks for posting this. I’m using some of the lockdown time to give my son some confidence in using power tools, by making some garden furniture together out of pallets. Chop saw, drill/drivers, jig saw, etc. It’s easy to get over familiar with this stuff, so this is a good reminder to ensure I teach him not to cut corners, but if you do, make sure it’s done safely. Gloves, and the right type too. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery!
  13. One of my favourites. Shows PR’s soul roots to a tee!
  14. Had exact same bass, finish ‘n all. Surprising tonal range and quality build. I think the price is a bargain, given the price of wicks these days. Like every bit of kit that comes and goes through my hands, I don’t know why I moved it on. 🤦🏻‍♂️
  15. Very clever shizzle that! I’d use it.
  16. Wow! You lot are far more interesting than my boring list. I’m going to have a fest of listening tonight. Looking forward to hearing your originals @BigRedX😎 Good thread.
  17. Not tried it myself, but great idea. Thanks for the heads up Mick!
  18. Very hard to compile a definitive list, but here’s a potted history. Very rarely listen to much music these days, so my list ends somewhere in the 80’s. But by then I’d settled on my sound/style I suppose. But here’s a playlist. Notable bassists here include: Andy Fraser, Dee Murray, Kenny Passrrelli, Percy Jones, Pierre Brock, Bernard Edwards. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/47wCgfOyZlno96WKqEFF7u?si=UGooDgV8RgS2OjI5nIZ8Ig So it doesn’t look like I can embed the link....oh well. I’ll hum them for you if you call me. Oh, it has embedded. I won’t hum then, we’ll not like that anyway.
  19. Ah thanks, makes sense. I thought it was a guitar magazine thingy. I’ll try viewing on the iPad later.
  20. Was the list compiled by primarily guitarists? They often have a very different idea of what’s “best” compared to the people who identify as bassists. I couldn’t read the list on my phone as the page kept refreshing. I’m sure I’m not missing out though.
  21. I SAID I CANT HELP BUT NOTICE... THAT I’VE NOT GOT THE JIST.
  22. I couldn’t help but notice that I’m not on there.
  23. Hope it’s been Puck tested, Elf n safety and all that. GLWTS
