  1. I’ve never owned expensive equipment, for no other reason than I have never been able to afford it. Most I’ve spent on a bass is £600 (used Stingray), same for back line. If I had the money, I would love to buy some expensive kit and see what it’s like to own. Good luck to you if you can afford it, enjoy it! 😊 Having said that no one has ever commented on my gear, only my playing. So maybe they feel sorry for me 😂
  2. This is why most fans point at the drummer
  3. Had unsolicited contact from a band asking if I’d be interested in joining them. They sent me a website link, and all looked promising:- Image (interesting) Harmonies (nice) Songs (good story telling) Gigs (not too often but a good level when they do) But.....the guitar has chorus on, every song, all the time. I hated chorus in the 80’s, still do! It’s silly, but insurmountable for me. So it’s a NO from Slappie. What has prevented you from saying yes to a gig, which may seem a daft reason to others?
  4. Weren’t Sunn and Encore made by same peeps? India maybe? I’ve had both and they were solidly built with a nice substantial neck.
  5. He’s invited you to attend rehearsals with Caaaarl, even though you’ve turned the job down? Do you think Dave likes bass players “watching”? Eeeeww 🙀
  6. Instant “relic-ing“ And......break the keyboard modulation wheel, they hate that. apparently.🤭
  7. On a more serious note. You seemed to have liked the set and it’s local, so as others have said, you could give it a go but put down some boundaries regards Caaaaarl. At least Dave admitted they didn’t do well last time. Best wishes
  8. Mine went for about £300 too. Lovely bass, great build and worth so much more, just couldn’t get over my annoying penchant for everything P bass shaped. Sold for what I paid for it.
  9. Whatever backline I bought last is the best evvah!!
  10. Sucks that your amp let you down in rehearsal @Toddy Are you ditching all the modern kit you currently own and getting old kit from now on? Interested to know.
  11. So glad no one has wheeled out the archetypal & overused stereotype comments associated with East Anglia and the Fenns. Having said that, I don’t think there’d be much of a backlash from the locals. ....too busy playing their banjos
  12. If you can, just walk away. I don’t necessarily buy the “couldn’t phone/get through” bit. No respect for lazy, cowardly communication. It’s no reflection on your ability or you as a person. No one wins if you shout at them. At this moment you walk away disappointed, angry, etc but integrity in tact.
  13. There’s one in guitarbitz in Bath. I’ve been lusting over it for months, beautiful looker.
  14. That’s how G&R’s always sounds to me. 🦡 🔪🍒🤪
  15. So you’re his backing band essentially? Bit like a pit band, you turn up and play whatever is presented to you. Now that’s fine, if that’s everyone’s expectation. I play in a band that is led by an amazing bass player who has gigged and recorded with high profile artists. However, he chooses to let me create my own parts, but occasionally gives direction, particularly in the studio. But that’s our expectation. So, essentially, laying out expectations from the start makes for clarity and helps minimise disappointment and resentment. I’d have a chat with him Mick, sooner rather than later, or walk.
