Singer keeps changing song arrangements, what to do?
oldslapper replied to shoulderpet's topic in General Discussion
I’m not sure you understand. You (and the rest of the band) are there to serve the singist! The singist is the queen or king bee, the centre of everything, the axis upon which the universe must revolve, without whom this and all other worlds will fall apart, or spin off into certain oblivion. They are all knowing (without knowing nuffink), all doing (without lifting a finger), all seeing (whilst blind to the stress they may cause to others in THIER band). Now stop moaning, and bathe in the glorious light that shines forth from the hole from which they also speak. And to prove I’m not prejudiced, in any way....I went out with a singer once, so I can’t be 🥳- 33 replies

You can see how sight reading has sucked out all his “feel” and “groove”. Just say no to dots kids. 😆

The “other” (American) bass related conversation site.
oldslapper replied to Quilly's topic in General Discussion
I’m a member. But that’s enough about my general persona. I don’t do Farcebook, Twatter, InstantGran, or whatever other antisocial media is out there, so bass forums are my only internet outlet for the general nonsense in my head. I really like Finnbass, found the population there incredibly helpful, funny and met a couple of fine people from there in dodgy car parks (that’s another story though). I like the spit and sawdust back street pub feel to it. I also have visited TB a couple of times and, again, found some helpful info there. I like this place generally too, but this is the only site I’ve got into “arguments“ on, funnily enough never about gear. Once I was accused of lacking a sense of humour and another time my humour being inappropriate. My experience to date is that forums are fine places, but it’s too easy to take what is typed too personally, out of context, or interpret with attritional bias, etc, as I can’t see the face of the person typing so can’t read their intentions. It’s too easy for peeps to get carried away (me included) or type something they wouldn’t necessarily say face to face with someone. I would like to add that mods have been very helpful here ime. I’m still a member. An old wrinkly member. -
No need to hide that new purchase anymore

Look I’m not after an argument and I’m not backpedaling, your reply clearly stated you found it sexist, then ended by stating you don’t find it offensive. (Quote 👆🏻) If it’s sexist, then it IS offensive. I will crawl back under the misogynist rock from which I came. -

I’ve edited my posts accordingly @Silvia Bluejay Although I’m not totally clear whether you are stating it is offensive, or not, and who you are speaking for. If content is sexist then it should be removed, as per BC rules. But as I posted yesterday, it was more pointing a finger at the purchasers inability to come clean about a new purchase than about the attitudes of partners, whatever they’re gender. -

It’s the only reason I buy basses. -

Look the thread is just meant to be a bit of fun. I apologise to all those that have taken offence, or whatever else has been taken whilst reading it. In relationships, lying and deception is not healthy, in fact it is incredibly damaging. But I started the thread with the intention of laughing at ourselves (or more importantly myself). I will now go and self flagellate, which won’t be difficult after the vegetable soup I ate at lunch time. (No offence meant to vegetation, meal time descriptions or soup) -

Gone! These came with the broken ply upright that @JoeEvans donated here. I’m currently restoring it but needed to buy a new set of machines as it was proving difficult to get a replacement cog and screw that fitted the string retainer. So here are 3 working machines and 1 that has the key, plate and string retainer. These are easily reversible. Dimensions are in the pictures. Happy to send these individually or as a set, but free to a home of whatever repute. There will be a bridge available soon too for free, once I’ve fitted one of the 2 bridges I have. Cheers, John

Isn’t that the point of a sales ad? 🥳 -

Research?!? I just get in there before any other bugger does. 🥳 I can understand your frustration though -

I tend to use this thread as a “heads up” to a bargain as well as a bit of fun. With Jon’s knowledge it tends to be an informative read, as well as spotting a potential “find”. Had two Maya fretless P’s both consistently good. Also there’s not much to get wrong with a fretless P. No frets to bugger up. Only 1 pup, basic controls. No edging on necks that tended to be on old MIJ jazz copies. -

Sorry mate, just responding to previous post. I guess one mans jap crap is another’s diamond as @hooky_lowdown has intimated. My Maya was great build, maybe I have low expectations 😂 -

I stupidly sold my Maya fretless exact same as yours, last year. Here it is last summer at a festival somewhere. -
I like playing guitar or bass/double bass. I love playing with other musicians. I’m fortunate enough to play with some wonderful musicians. I’m fortunate enough to be asked to record with some wonderful artists. Most of the gigs I’m asked to do aren’t grotty pubs. Most of the gigs I play I’m driven to. I just don’t enjoy gigging. Playing in front of people, performing, never have done. I don’t think I’m less of a musician, or should have swapped guitar for golf clubs. The reason I started playing was because of the albums I listened to, not the bands I saw. I rarely went to gigs, still don’t. Some people just don’t enjoy gigging. It’s not a disease. 🙄🤪

No you’re not the only one. I did it for a living and hated it. Great bands, lovely people, but I have no interest in “performing”. I love playing, in particular with other musicians, but find gigging in the uk a major pita. Found my happy place now recording and writing with a variety of artists, often remotely. No more travelling, hanging around, getting on stage at silly o’clock, dressing up, getting home at ridiculous o’clock, being knackered the next day. Having said all this, gigging in Europe is a very different experience for some reason. But then again you get well looked after, hotel near to venue, no driving, catching up on sleep in the bus and money is better. Still have to “perform” and dress up, and it’s only a couple of small tours a year. So bearable.
