SOLD Fretted and fretless basses (twins)

😂 so true, so true. Genuinely laughed out loud.

It’s not really a song contest though is it? If it were, you’d have to do away with the visual gimmicks which, if loud and glittery enough, can distract one’s attention away from judging the melody or prosody, if you understand the language being sung. It’s just a bit o’ Saturday night TV in the category of “Entertainment”. Personally I went out into the garden to stick needles up my finger nails as that was more appealing than watching the programme. But “each to their own” ‘n all that. Sounds like flag sellers did well out of it though? Good for them!

Where did we all start this journey from?

My first wage packet at 16 I bought these: Vox foundation 1x18 and amp. I bought them at the same time as buying this bass off a lad who was at my school 2 years above me. He was very good at woodwork and ended up now making very expensive guitars and mandolins for people like Matt Bellamy. His name is Gary Nava and this was his first guitar build for A level. Prior to this I played bass lines on a jedson tele I borrowed off a mate, through a hifi amp. I exchanged the lot for a leather jacket....🤪 -

Basschat descriptions from the future

This vintage F class amp comes with original anti-float weights & fits in most credit card wallets of the era. I think I have the “heft” switch somewhere. -
Watching it at the moment. Never really on my radar, but enjoying this. Drummer is great. Some Good pop songs too. Seem like a good bunch of blokes.

Really enjoyed watching that. Although I zoned out for the last section talking about the gear. He seems a nice guy.

Are Beaters the Weights on Ronaldo’s Ankles?
oldslapper replied to DoubleOhStephan's topic in General Discussion
Ronaldo using weights on his ankles during training is an intentional act, for a specific purpose. But he knows that when he plays a game (a gig) he will playing without weights, and with light boots. The equivalent would be to use those sprung loaded individual finger trainers to build up stamina, strength and individual finger dexterity, knowing that you’ll be playing a bass that’s comfortable to play when gigging. IMHO natch. -
Gig cancelled - the start of a flurry i think ;-)

Imagine him and I in the same band! 😂🤪 One long drum solo 😳 -
Yes I gigged mine, loved it and looked great...

One other mod I was advised to do was to insert some “sleeves” in the body where the bridge posts sit. The original posts are slightly smaller than necessary and the “sleeves” ensure a better (more even) contact between bridge and body. I did find that at certain frequencies there was a slight drop in volume plus unwanted harmonic overtones, presumably because the posts weren’t snug. I believe @Pentode made me some, or possibly someone else from Finnbass. There was a definite positive difference in evenness of volume and no nasty unwanted noise. I’m assuming the recommended replacement bridge has better (snugger?) fit.

I had one of these. Wonderfully well made. I couldn’t quite get over the body shape, just a taste thing. Custom built bass by Mike Walsh for that money is silly.

The Ned model is headless.

I’ve done a few gigs where footie or rugby has been on the tv. I always tried to set up with a clear view of the match. I know, I’m a terrible person. -
Probably find the one who suggested it is a korg rep. Achieved his sales target that month. 🥳😊

Went into a guitar shop (not naming names) where a used 4005 was hanging, had the “name” on the headstock taped over. Played great, looked cooler than a cool thing, and was £200. Shop owner was very clear it was Far East copy. I didn’t buy it as I have enough basses (1), but it was tempting. Who knows how much the factory workers get paid, or how much it costs to churn these out, but it’s probably not a lot.

I don’t mind where I’m position, as long as I’m as far away from the lead guitarist, their back line and monitor as possible. Nothing against what they play, but I can’t remember playing with a lead guitarist who is unable to have silly stage volumes. Being placed at the same side as the hi hat is often sensible but depends on the drummer, some of them I really don’t want to look at 🤪
