Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
oldslapper replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Not heard of this brand, but familiar headstock & body shape. Very Ibanez Blazer-esque? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292450625132 -
Oh yes, where the horn is placed....that can be a problem. 😱

I've owned 3 Spectors (only Legends & a NS models, do budget ranges). I have loved the varied tone pallet, the build quality, very comfy body shape, feel of the neck in my hand & the 5 string had the nicest B balance I can remember having. But....I just can't get on with the top horn placement not being over the 12th fret. I tried 3 times, until I gave up. Such a shame, great basses.

A bit of sport on TV whilst playing has been a welcome distraction at some gigs. Can't say I've ever had any food onstage, might lead to strings getting covered in foodstuff. Bit like BRX, a drink (lager in my case) on stage doesn't get the attention it deserves & ends up warm and flat. But I do have bottles of water to hydrate, but as a drink, water is less "needy". So....food & drink on stage..probably not. TV? Absolutely! But I do insist on subtitles if it's a detective show, as it's so hard to hear above the racket coming from the stage.

Whenever I buy a car, I test drive it by first revving it as hard & long as I can, hoping that people notice me. Once I have their attention I attempt a doughnut manoeuvre I saw on YouTube (I stall quite a lot, but I think I look cool). It never occurs to me to check if the breaks, clutch, gears, lights work, or if the cars structure is sound...or, heaven forbid, it fits any practical needs. OK, so my cars never leave my garage (but no one in the showroom knows that, they all think I'm the Stig maaaaan)

(All the plectrum users sniggering into their Dunlop 1.14mm pick tins) 🤣

How easy do you find it to impress errm laypeople?
oldslapper replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I have a guitar or two out on stands. On a couple of occasions I've managed to trade a couple of lessons with trades people (builder, gardener & chimney sweep) when they've come to do work. If they've spotted the guitars, I'll noodle on if they've showed interest, which has started a conversation like "ooh a guitar, always wanted to play...." "ooh I teach guitar, would you like a lession"...."ooh yes, but its quite expensive..." "yes so is your ridiculous hourly rate..hows about a trade?". A few "oohs" later, & no money has changed hands, but everybody's got what they want.....ooh! -
Playing in Europe - What do I need to know?
oldslapper replied to NoRhino's topic in General Discussion
This! Gigged extensively in Europe (outside UK....) from the 80's to last July. Always well looked after by promoters/venues & audiences mad for a good time. You'll have a Fab time. -
Jazz width neck with "F" precision bass logo & fake Duck Dunn signature. Bought this last week for a project, but failed to measure the body recess, and it's too wide to receive the neck heel. I lack the skill to remedy this. So it's back here for sale with pics including measurements. Nice vintage style and literally taken out of the box, offered to the body & placed back. It's well packaged in 2 made for neck boxes. Link to original sales thread: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/319021-sold-duck-dunn-jazz-neck-sold/?tab=comments#comment-3455471 I'm in Bath if anyone wants to meet & collect, or I'll post it out for £50

SOLD!!! "Home Built" Precision Bass TOTALLY BLACK!!!

Number of gigs doesn't equate to level of competence. To suggest a band that only plays 6 gig's a year doesn't deserve good musicians is a bizarre stand point.
-
Sounds perfect. Describes my current situation. I love playing, and playing with great players, I just have no love for gigging. So 6 per year is about right....for me. What's the issue?

£15 Having another clear out. 3 sets used strings, come off various basses I've bought recently. I only buy boring fender style, so cut for 4 in line. No idea gauge or make, I think 2 sets are nickel but don't sue me if they're not please 😇 2 bbot bridges, 1 Wilkinson with brass saddles. Both come with screws. I want the whole lot to go please. £15 for the lot posted seems OK. Thanks. John
