you cant beat fender, They got it right.....
GarethFlatlands replied to greyparrot's topic in Bass Guitars
Still never played a real one! I used a studios Squier Jazz and the neck was very different to my Warwick but not bad, just an adjustment. One day.... -
I'd have given it a hardtail due to my dislike of trems but that's a very nice guitar. The Ibanez logo should raise a few eyebrows but it looks like a nice fast neck and I'm a fan of flatter radius boards and floral prints so it's a winner for me.
-
Are they supposed to do that then? I thought I'd messed the build up somewhere!
-
Interesting pedal. I built a BYOC clone but I'm not sure what went wrong as it needs a really hot signal, otherwise it chokes out very easily. My old active Warwick was fine but my single coil guitars sound awful with it

Hollyoaks is where it's at for new music! Period.

My mum was on it once walking past in the background. Does that count? -
Thanks guys, some food for thought there. The Tritons are certainly great kit - I hadn't considered them as I wasn't looking at workstations but there's a few gone for a steal on eBay recently. I used a Trinity for a while way back when so I'm aware of the quality. Think the complexity might be a bit much for our man though.
I use none of the more in depth functions of the Triton LE, just go between sounds using the menu. Hit 'Prog' and then 'Category' and it's all laid out by instrument style. There may be better options but I wouldn't call it hard to use. That said, the manuals it came with were terrifyingly large and in depth!

Korg Tritons are alright, plenty of usable sounds. The brass isn't amazing on it's own but works OK in a band context and you can't have everything! Nice easy access to the sounds too, it's all laid out in categories (organs, brass, synths etc) and you can just scroll through them with the wheel, or select them via buttons if you know the patch no. you want. The only problems I've found are intermittent crashes where it flips back to the default patch and the volume massively drops, necessitating a restart.

From the reading around I did when I was considering one, they're very close to the Electric Mistress on clean but get brittle sounding when driven. I think I mainly saw guitar reviews however and ended up sticking with my M5 so I've got no 1st hand experience. No idea if that helps you at all.
I think they are made of tin foil and polystyrene sheeting with mineral oil between. I don't know how to do it. It's just like most things. Someone will throw a wrench in the works if he sees something positive is going on. Yeah, we eventually all agreed on 'The Slow Blade' and typically there was another band with the same name. They'd seemed fairly inactive, the other end of the country and a different genre so we went with it anyway. We stole it from Dune in any case.

Ibanez Roadcore? Just watched a YT video on Minus the Bears setup and they were on there in various configurations but most have mahogany bodies, hard tails and humbuckers.
-
Could be. Mine was terrible at first but it just kind of clicked after a while. In all seriousness, treat it like a fretted in terms of trying to play cleanly and in tune. You can worry about all the flowery techniques once you've got that sorted.

Do a massive slide into or out of every single note. Best get a chorus pedal too.
Hey Chris - and welcome. Mainz is a good place, did a good gig there once in the SWR studios. I've just come home from a five week tour of Germany. Been touring there since 2001, about 10 tours by now, and sadly the most I can say is 'Ein cafe zum mit nehmen' and I'm sure I've just spelt that wrong. Anyway - welcome and enjoy!!!
Just shrug and say "Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof" if anyone says anything to you that you don't understand.
-
I'm not going to inflict my terrible German on you but welcome Chris. My old band went around Germany and did a few shows back in 2010, great country and I'd like to go back again at some point.
-
I've heard your band name mentioned on the 9hz forum boards and we've done a few heavy shows in Scotland so our paths may have crossed before now. Welcome to BC anyway!

Very rough and ready shot of my 2 main guitars, a Gordon Smith semi-hollow Gypsy bought from a fellow BC'er and an MIJ Jazzmaster dating from (I think) 1998 from the serial number. The pickups were dire so I replaced them with a pair of MOJO pickups '58 replicas and now it sounds great. The chrome knobs are also something I added as the original plastic ones were getting pretty filthy. It's also got a Mustang bridge as the original JM bridge is just ridiculous. I like the Gordon Smith as it's very easy to play but there's just something about it that hasn't quite clicked with me so I'm in 2 minds about whether to keep it.

Eating Humble Pie...Serious help now needed.
I've just had an idea . I'm contacting Korg this afternoon............
If it's putting it on top of a fridge filled with lead, Ampeg beat you to it. -
I know what you mean, I get it from playing my guitar for more than an hour & hate playing cheap sounding keys (especially most home keyboards). If I did go down the keys route, it would need to have a really good palette with some good EPs & pads (hence my choices ). Enough!!! You've got me considering it again!
Slightly OT but I never find many synth sounds that work well in isolation but it's a different story when played in a band context. I had to argue with our singer about putting a lead line on a track and it ended up being his favourite part of it. For that reason, I don't think I'd pick synths although I do enjoy noodling around with software ones.
-
My personal preference would be bone, and I do like my Gordon Smith but I'm not 100% sold on brass. I'm sure graphtec is fine, anything nice and dense that doesn't effect tuning would be good. Just not plastic as I use a lot of chords with open strings and personally don't like the sound plastic gives.

What CD's you have in the car at the moment?
GarethFlatlands replied to marcus bell's topic in General Discussion
A load but favourites are:- The National - Boxer Kate Bush - Hounds of Love Paul Simon - Graceland Isis - Panopticon Dredg - Leitmotif A mixed bag as always. -
Though so, it would seem a bit odd to go to all that effort and then use a plastic nut!

Used the Planet Waves equivalent, albeit not heavily, for a good while and had no problems with it. I was worried about the solderless design but it's been a solid, reliable cable.
