1. Very nice, but is the nut plastic or some other material?
2. I get noise when using it with my Jazzmaster but nothing with humbuckers (I used it on guitar, not bass....) on a Diago. Depends how many pedals you have really, I have mine 2nd to last before a delay and after 2 dirt pedals but I was considering some kind of home-made box to move it between 2 points in the chain. Never got round to it but I'm sure you could knock something up reasonably easily. Mods, reverbs and delays are mostly great, filters and dirt have some good stuff but nothing fantastic. Worth a punt, especially as the price was sub £100 recently from fxpedal.co.uk.
3. That is a beauty, I'd be too scared to play it out if it was a one-off at that price though so it's useless to me. Still, phwoar.
4.
Bump for a great pedal! Make me an offer!
All I can offer is love.
5. Very nice, I've got a sunburst MIJ Jazzmaster from (I think) '98. The pickups were terrible so I replaced them with a pair of Mojo '58 JM pickups and it now sounds great.
6.
Hardwire Supernatural
Another one I'd never heard of now added to the GAS list. Thanks
7.
The Moog pedal is pretty solid. The cord issue was a 2 min fix. It's quite long to start with & all I did was unwind from the spindle inside & tie it back on, that was @ a year ago when playing at home & it's been fine since. The pedal itself is made of a thick abs plastic & has a metal baseplate. It feels solid underfoot & haven't had any gig issues.
Thanks, I'll get one ordered.
8.
The moog ep-2 works with it & it's solid (though I've had to change the cord in it once). Also has a handy potentiometer on the side for adjusting it's range.
Apart from the cord issue, how sturdy are they? I'd like to not have to spend £100 odd on a decent pedal unless I have to. Although £40 isn't a massive outlay. Decisions...
9. My official Line 6 one died after a fairly short space of time and despite being kept securely in a pedal case so I can't recommend them. I'd 2nd the Ernie Ball, a couple of friends use them and they seem very well made and have a nice feel to them. Mission Control pedals do a Line 6 specific expression which looks very good and is around £100. That's if you can find a UK dealer with them in stock.
10. The M5 was on sale at fxpedal.co.uk recently for about £95 so well worth a punt. I only use the octave settings on guitar so can't say how it works on bass but you can program the heel/toe expression pedal intervals pretty easily.
11.
I agree with this sentiment too. I`ve found people to be very helpful when asking about gear, but as well as that, when trading gear, and I`ve bought/sold a lot, I`ve had nothing but good dealings with my fellow Basschatters, including some very nice cups of tea & chats when delivering/collecting.
Indeed, there's the occasional spat but you know, welcome to the internet. Nothing but good stories from the sales and trades I've had on here either.
12. Saw them on the Down on the Upside tour and spent the whole gig on his side of the stage watching him play. Great bassist.
13.
One of Norway's well-known recording studios used a lot of Behringer stuff, but the owner did state that with Behringer, one must know what gear to get and what to avoid. He was clear about some Behringer gear having short life span, and/or huge fail rate.
Indeed, I'm warming to the idea of trying something by them again but my experience put me off for the longest time. I think a BDI21 is in order as they seem to be very well though of and I've not heard much on failure rates for them.
14. I only have experience of the bass cabs with the aluminium cones, every single one of which failed in a very short space of time. The cone came away from the surround and disintegrated rapidly, until one speaker blew and took my amp head with it. I've been put off using them since that day and haven't bought another one of their products.
15.
Any that I should avoid?
I have the M-Audio Oxygen 25 on my desk, and while it's a very well built and useful bit of kit, the feel of the keys is pretty poor. I don't play keyboards a lot and even I noticed it when I played it. The newer version might be better but I'd struggle to recommend it if you plan on playing it a lot. This is all IMO of course, you might like it. I also notice you want pads which it doesn't have so it probably wasn't an option anyway.
16.
Wish I could hear what i played......Ha, ha
You played all the notes, very fast and made me realise I need to practice my fretless playing. A lot.
17. Having just got a Letts fretless I can highly recommend it, although ACG make stunning looking basses which sound huge on that video. There's always Shuker too but I'm not sure what his build times are these days.
18. +1 for the getting a cheap one to start with. I just sold a Yamaha RBX to a friend for £85 having just picked up a very nice Letts 6 string and while it had issues, it was a very helpful tool in learning the basics of fretless playing. Then use the spare cash chop and change bits and strings until you find what works for you or invest in a better bass later on.
19.
HJ - indeed, ticks most of not all the boxes. Do you find enough control over the mids without having a separate mid sweep control? I think the VT Bass Deluxe has this, but also a lot of stuff i don't need such as amp simulation (or is that just 'presence' by another word?) I get confused.
I didn't like the lack of mid control personally but it was a great piece of kit apart from that. The new Sansamp character series look like they all have a switchable speaker sim so you can stop the pedal being too much of an amp modeller and more of another channel.
20. This one was incredibly cheap for what I got but even his new stuff is a bargain. Starting at £700 for a custom handmade bass is pretty amazing.
21. That's great, thank you. I'll need to adjust to having the extra top string but I'm not sure you can help with that! I pretty much decided it was mine within a few minutes of trying it out last week, just having a noodle on it now and I am indeed loving it.
22.
Sorry, but this is going to sound really big headed but I do not mean to be. Back in early September 1969 I happened to be in Wessex Studio with a mates band with Tony Clarke producing. Mr. Clarke put on The KC master of 21st Century Schizoid Man for our delectation. F**K Me! I felt as if I had been hit round the back of the head with a cricket bat - incredibly heavy and very advanced for it's time. Best thing I'd ever heard 'til then and there have not been many others since IMHO. I came very close to walking away from attempting to play bass or any other musical instrument at that point, believe me.
Nah, cool story. Fripp is a genius but it's terrifying how much work he puts into being that way. 'Discipline' is from my birth year which makes it a nice co-incidence that it's my favourite KC album.
