Used to do it but don't anymore. Back in the pre youtube/soundcloud/myspace days it was a good way of discovering music and I got into more than one band through downloading a few songs to try them out. There just seems less point these days with instant access to pretty much any song I want to hear, added to the fact I'm getting fussy about what I'm willing to install on my computer means I just don't bother any more.

Digital/Electronic Piano recommendations please
I will be interested in how you get on and what one you end up getting Been toying with the idea of a keyboard to help with my quest to learn music better
I'm glad I learnt my way round a piano keyboard, it comes in handy with a decent range of other instruments. I'm not a good player but I don't get daunted when someone suggests I play some glockenspiel or vibraphone on a song. -
Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke, particularly the unison part with the brass section
This or 'Schism' by Tool.
Thanks man, I've never really thought of it as tech metal before, that's just how riffs come out of my head, 7/8 seems more natural to me than 4/4, maybe I'm just weird?
Nah, I can't write in 4/4 either. It's either 6/8 or something utterly odd. I write riffs and as long as they fall nicely in time with my tapped foot then they're OK, then I take them to the band and our drummer has to fiddle with them until they're more sensible. -
Just listened to the whole album, I love it! It's really excellent. What's happening with the band mate?
Pretty much died a death really, it was singer/guitarist Ed's project and he wanted to make an album. 3 years and 4 drummers later and it was done so he's achieved what he wanted to and has moved on to other things. We recorded a song a few months ago but never practice together or gig so apart from the occasional song every now and then purely as a recording band, I can't see much else happening. I'm really proud of the album anyway and I got to grips with a few other instruments over the years while it was being done. I think I'm credited with about different 6 instruments in the liner notes. Always leave them wanting more eh? -

Green Alsation - I wasn't a fan of the first song, the vocals kind of put me off and it sounded like it was going for a psychadelia thing but the production wasn't there to back it up. Good bassline though. I enjoyed the second one a lot, imagining it with the bass removed it would be much less interesting to listen to. Shame that version doesn't have vocals really. If you have a version with them on I'd like to hear it. steve-soar - Interesting lines, nicely locked in with the drums and a sweet bouncy tone. The song as a whole has a nice mid-late 90's alternative feel to it which I liked too. bobbass4k - Great bit of tech metal but the fact it was all midi made it a bit odd to listen to. I'd love to hear it if you ever got it recorded with a live band (easier said than done I realise), maybe with another guitar line, vocals or something a little out of the ordinary. I only say this because I've got a bit of guitar fatigue at the moment. Lozz - Again, not really a fan of glam/swing but most songs of those genres are made or fail on the bass and.... you nailed it. I can hear how your line would have taken the song in a different direction from your original description. As xilddx said, you look like a great party band too. xgsjx - Really liked that first one, I'm not a fan of folkier stuff but the guitar and bass line were both very intricate and crossing over really well. The 2nd one would have sounded a little sparse without you holding it up from about the 2 minute mark but you held back where it was appropriate. Very impressive all round, such a shame about your singer :-( risingson - Cool cross between old school songwriting and electronic elements. I really liked the crossover between the regular and bass synth, and I especially dug the middle section from about 2 minutes until the vocals kicked back in, everything just worked really well together there. The vocals are way too high in the mix for me but that's all I can think of I didn't like. Page 1 down! Edit for typos. -

I'm my own worst critic and don't like a lot of stuff I've done (or maybe it really is rubbish?) but there's been a few bits and pieces I'm fond of. The verses to 'The Cell' by inFictions (Bandcamp link in my sig) are one of them, simple but me and the drummer really locked in on the rhythm without any kind of discussion and it really makes the song stand out. There are some bits of the 1st 65daysofstatic album that I still like, although I was very green when it was done and I think it shows. -
People express opinions, troll responds with trolling. Are we really up to 21 pages of this now?
I would advise against the Rock Bass $$ it's quite possibly the worst sounding bass I have ever owned, I tried everything to get a decent sound out of it even swapped the 250k pots for the correct 500k pots, it made a slight difference but not enough in my opinion to give even a reasonable sound I would expect from a budget bass and bearing in mind it was hardly a budget bass....I paid nearly £600 for it sold it a month later for £200 and I still think I got good money back for it. This was my first Warwick and after that bass most probably my last, I expected better for the money, after all the Ray34's and Mexican Fenders etc are largely excellent instruments, to me the Rock Bass did not make me yearn for the genuine item
Shame, I've owned a Rockbass 'vette and a Streamer Pro-M and the Streamer was a huge jump in quality. There was maybe £200 difference in the prices I paid too which seems like a bargain. I'm a fretless man now but I'd love a proper Warwick fretless.
Home design, home build. Back is mahogany, top is Yew. Neck is a 'restyled headstock' (OK - sawn-off ) strat 'v' profile. Bareknuckle pups with SD switch options in the Pup rings and optional mid coil through a push-push tone. Lovely to play and can sound from acoustic to hard rock. Andy
That is a beauty.

Another musician heard them once so therefore they invented dubstep.
-
You are provably wrong they invented notes and everything. Before them pianos just played static.
-
They have a few really great tunes and I acknowledge their impact but I can't see what all the fuss is about. I know they did it all first but I wasn't around until much later which is probably at least part of it. Same reason I could take or leave Black Sabbath.

Nice t-rex mug!
-
Hmm, just get a Gordon Smith if you want a double cut, and for less money too.

You seen the mods people are doing with theirs? Some are pretty impressive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF8skIOXp24
I don't care what anyone says about Fender; they bounce and Gibson's don't.
One of the main reasons I sold my Les Paul and replaced it with a Mex strat. Plus I think I'm a single coil man, despite growing up wanting to be Jimmy Page.

Sennheiser Earphones - Mine keep breaking
GarethFlatlands replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I have had a pair of CX300's for about 6 years, used daily. My brother has gone through 3 sets in the same amount of time.
Likewise, mine broke about a month ago after 2 years of almost daily use but I read a lot about other peoples lasting a very short space of time. I've replaced them with a pair of Soundmagic e10's which are a step up in terms of sound quality and come with (I think) 7 different rubber earpieces. Too early to say how reliable they are though. -
well as everyone will recommend (by and large) what they use themselves, i'm putting my pennys worth and recommending Dave Halls's VT-2 pedals, 2 valves per pedal, not much distortion but very warm. There you go. http://www.davehalla....uk/page18.html not that cheap but very good, would never be without mine now.
I'd 2nd a DHA pedal, I had the VT1 and sold it because it wasn't enough growl but it certainly added a nice tube element to the sound.

There's a Lovetone (Swedish) Meatball joke in here somewhere.
Sorry to back track the thread somewhat but I'm thinking of looking for an alternative to mine. I have the VT1-bass-drive-eq and the tone is fantastic but its so huge! I'm thinking I might swap it for a smaller DHA or maybe a different more compact valve overdrive, if anybody could recommend one?
The SFX Micro Red Dragon is well thought of for low gain sounds. I've not tried one but they look very cool and are teeny tiny small too.
I have a feeling that the bassline to "A Horse with no name" by America was played on one, as it's difficult to articulate correctly on a 4.
I've seen a clip on youtube and it looks like the bassist has a P but it was a live clip so may not be what was on the record.
