1. Aaages ago there was a really long thread linked to on here where a builder goes through every step of making a jazz bass copy, including pickup winding that was a really interesting and informative read. ..And with a bit of googling, here it is http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/169606-1960-jazzbass-build.html Pickup build starts around page 4.
2. If only the other stuff I'm selling would go as well...
3.
no toolshed? where do you keep your erm, you know.... grumble mags?
Fixed.
4. I bought this 2008 VT1 off Simwells but it's now surplus to requirements. You probably know what they do but just in case, here's some Basschatter reviews (including mine) here:- http://basschat.co.u...a-vt1-std-bass/ He kindly gave me a power supply to start me off (it takes 12v centre positive) but it's so noisy I'm not including it in the sale as it's pretty much unusable and it's not worth the extra packing hassle and postage. I never got round to buying a better one as the band I played bass in imploded shortly after and my dirt needs are met elsewhere now. £50 posted (1st class recorded). Thanks Gareth
5. Deal on the fuzz! You still on Neill Road and around this weekend?
6. Boxed with instructions, has seen light home and studio use but still in good condition. It's the silver fronted version. Sound on Sound review here:-> http://www.soundonso.../bluetubedp.htm Manufacturers blurb:- "The PreSonus BLUETUBE DP two channel microphone/ instrument preamplifier. 7. Goddamn it, I can feel another walk to Simwells' house coming on for the bargainous flying tomato...
8.
Sorry, been away (digging for dinosaurs)
Find any?
9.
Look no further! http://www.fender.co...modified-jaguar (and they also have a jazzmaster in that series). AMAZING guitars for the value, and perfect for postrock/ambient!
I have an MIJ Jazzmaster from the late 90's and would recommend them if you want something a bit different, but they are a bit 'out there' in terms of design and functionality. The bridge is ridiculous (the Squiers seem to use a fixed adjustomatic which is miles better) and the pickups are very niche meaning the choice for replacements is limited and expensive. As always with budget guitars, try a lot and get the best one as the quality control will be variable.
10. Bass, keys and backing vox in inFictions (in my sig, seems to have now imploded) and guitar in The Slow Blade. No desire to do anything else, it's already too expensive
11. Bump. Make me (sensible) offers! Trades considered, fretless basses and synths mainly but let me know what you've got.
12.
Look out for a Gordon Smith. Fantastic guitars, have humbuckers with coil-taps on them.
I'd 2nd this. I picked up a GS Gypsy on here a couple of months ago and I'm sold on them.
13.
A Korg Triton should fit the bill, (or maybe a Trinity).
I'm selling a Triton LE, if you're near Sheffield you're welcome to give it a tryout.
14.
I believe it was broken when the band's equipment was attacked by the Raggare (Rockabilly types who didn't like punk) in Sweden. It was repaired-his Shuker is based on the best bits of that one and his black Precision, I'm fairly sure it still exists. He broke his Yamaha when he thumped it, as he still does with his Shuker, but that was built to take it!
Must have been the Yamaha I read about. Glad to see my mind isn't playing tricks on me. Yet....
15. Good video, I watched blind and my favourites were the Warwick Star, Alembic and the fretless 'Ray. The Streamer was a bit too refined and the burgundy Ray was too high end sounding for me. Nothing wrong with the Jazz but I preferred the other 3 I mentioned. Oddly, if you put all the basses in front of me and said I could have 1 but had 10 seconds to decide (not hearing or playing any) I think I'd have gone for the Streamer or the Jazz. Proof that you should listen with your ears and not your eyes.
16.
Has he still got that green p bass? I know he uses a black shuker now.
I vaguely remember an interview where he said he karate chopped it into pieces by accident, although I might have made that up.
17. Grab 'em while they're cheap, Gisbon just got hit with a hefty fine and lost a lot of wood stocks http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19153588
18. £200+ estimate for the car. New bass (or anything else) not happening for a while
19. Another family photo of mine and Stu's (Pliskin on BC) GT1s. I use mine for guitar, Stu for bass which works very well and gives a nice growly tone. Stus is for sale somewhere as he's downsizing and needs the cash but I can't seem to find the thread.
20.
Glasgow is awesome and definitely doesn't (entirely) deserve the reputation. As someone who grew up in Glasgow, I can honestly say that I've had far hairier moments in places like Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds than I ever had at home in Glasgow. In Manchester they had police on the night buses and in Nottingham I went through a metal detector to get into a night club---both of which are unheard of in supposedly "scary" Glasgow!!
Agreed. Now Livingstone on the other hand...
21.
You could always try haggling? You never know your luck!
'Letts' see how much my car repair costs me next week first. See what I did there?
