1.
However, would be interested in trades on amps or a guitar...
Anything in mind?
2.
it's not perfect but which pedal is?
Vintage Proco Rat?
3. +1 for the Yamaha love, I've got a de-fretted RBX170 (with the P/J pickup configuration) and it's got a nice even tone both unamplified and plugged in and plays really well. The controls feel a bit cheap and spin easily but for the cash you can get them for, it's a great bass. A friend who knows next to nothing about basses but is a decent player went bass shopping on a budget, tried loads out and came away with an RBX.
4. Pretty sure Johnnyshredfreak has them and Diago do a blue adaptor for old EHX pedals/Rats.
5.
Another plug for the excellent ovnilab.com reviews. I ended up picking up a Carl Martin Comp-Limiter 2nd hand, and it sounds great. Closest thing I could afford that sounds like a reasonably transparent PA compressor. The only problem is that the controls are, shall we say, a little unusual. If you are on a limited budget I'd look at the recommended ones on the above website and see what is kicking around 2nd hand.
The Carl Martin optical compressor also got favourable reviews if I remember right. Never owned a Carl Martin pedal but might have a serious look at some of their stuff.
6. Is that the supposedly haunted one on the one-way road with an old school courtyard where they sold food? If so, that sucks as I liked it. If not, never mind :-)
7. Not bass specific but have you looked at the Stone Dead PDF-1? http://www.stonedeaffx.com/store.html#ecwid:category=765154&mode=product&product=3179314
8. Unless it's causing problems it's not really up to anyone else if you play in more than 1 band. I was in 3 at one point and no-one really minded, I just kept a diary and told everyone in advance if I wasn't available for anything. I also worked 9-5, didn't sleep much and made myself ill eating dinner at 11:30pm most nights but that's irrelevant.
9. If you're willing to solder, you can mod the pants off a Harley Benton GA5 combo. It's basically an Epiphone Valve Junior but for cheaper, fix the hum and bias problems, pop a nice 8" speaker in and you've got a nice portable tube combo that can still kick out a fair bit of volume if needed.
10. I got 7ft of cloth covered 22 gauge wire from a seller called 'cdguitars' for £3.95 if that helps anyone. 79p postage.
11. I have a fretless one of these too! Even with the stock hardware it's a really good bass for very little cash, anyone looking to try out fretless should give this some serious consideration.
12. Another convert here, I swapped my EUB which my tiny hands were struggling with for an old de-fretted Yamaha with plastic coated strings. After about a week or so practice with it I used it at a gig and loved it. It's so much more expressive than fretted IMO. I'm considering selling some stuff to release funds for a better one but selection is sadly limited :-(
13. I've always preferred to look of these to the Stingrays, I wish they made an affordable version like the Sub. Nice looking bass. And is it an odd angle or is your cat massive?
14. Nice and cheap amps too, although the cab and matching EL34's aren't especially great.
15. I had lessons for about 18 months and always came out aftewards feeling really good. Problem was I lived in a shared house and was really self conscious of practising at home in case people heard me, didn't practice and so didn't really get any better. Our singer started as he wanted more control over vocals and was pretty bad to begin with. He ploughed regardless on and is now a very good vocalist so I think with practice most people can be good, and a good teacher is always a good start as with most things. So yeah, go for it and put the effort in and you'll see results.
16. Get a Korg Monotron instead, similarly difficult to play a tune on but smaller and encourages tweakings.
17. GAK had them listed, I ordered one at the end of Jan and after several apologetic emails was told mine would be arriving March. I cancelled the order mildly unhappy so sadly never got to try one.
18. I use the Diago Powerstation, very stable for me so far and the daisy chain allows for 6 pedals. It has an adaptor for powering 18v stuff too.
19. Same here, I'm a little skeptical about how they sound and perform in a band setting but damn they look good.
20.
Wren and Cuff Phat Phuk B.
That's one pedal I've always heard good things about but never really considered. I'll keep it in mind along the the Ashdown which seems to get good comments on here.
21. Sounds like you want a bit of growl to your sound. I'd recommend the SFX Red Dragon or the DHA VT1, both very nice sounding low gain overdrives.
22. As above really, liked the basic sound in terms of working in a mix but it sounded a little odd on it's own. Distortion added a nice growl at low settings but you couldn't EQ it separately or turn off the contour effect. I preferred it to the Sansamp in terms of overall sound but I moved it on pretty quick and now use a Dave Hall Amps DI/EQ and a VT1 for grrrr.
23. For ages I was the only one in one of my bands with a car so had to wait for everyone else before leaving. I try and stick around for the other bands now if we're not headlining now but I used to be awful, pack up and get off home as soon as we'd finished. I'd even wander off and sleep backstage during other bands sets. In my defense, I was working 9-5 and most Saturday mornings and in 3 active bands so had one free evening a week and a few hours Saturday and Sunday to relax so didn't feel bad about shamelessly using any free time.
24. Got it from the UK distributor, Vibe o Tronic. Had a couple of rehearsals with it and gigged with it last night, controls set and forget at 1 and 11 o'clock respectively. Sounded really nice and kept my volume even when I was playing softly and when I dug in a little. Not the most advanced in terms of controls but it works for me. It's definately staying on the board.
25. This is all the pedals I currently own, minus a Boss TU2, a Planet Waves pedal tuner and an Ernie Ball Volume pedal.
