1. Warwicks business practice (if what people on here are saying is correct) is very odd. Thankfully, there seems to be a glut of cheap 2nd hand basses on here. I'm tempted to get a loan and stock up on a few for a few years time when you can't get hold of them and people remember what great basses they are! I currently play a Streamer Pro-M, paid £400 for it and couldn't be happier. Plays really nice and I've had nothing but complements from recording engineers on the sound.
2.
Love the tele hate the jag. I prefer the old Japanese jaguars look wise (red with matching headstock...)
Same here, the tele looks pretty good. Problem is, I'm pretty small and wear my bass high so most long, slim looking basses look daft on me.
3. Weird, I suddenly had GAS for one these yesterday as a cheap P alternative. Didn't manage to find a reasonably priced one so it's another guitar on the list of stuff I want but don't need.
4.
FWIW, i used to gig a alu cone behringer 4x10 with an old Crate head and had no troubles. Sound quality not great but it worked and was loud enough.
You were lucky, mine and every other person I spoke to had the cones come away from the surrounds very quickly. Maybe you got a later model when they fixed the problem?
5. Eurgh.... I got one of these recently to fulfil all my Bladrunner fantasies. Much cheaper. http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/lightblade-umbrella/index.html
6. Live, I just use a bit of dirt. In the studio, the usual compression/EQ etc nonsence the engineer puts on and very occasionally, a bit of chorus & delay for that Isis sound.
7.
Maybe chuck in D'Arcy Wretzky and Melissa Auf Der Maur from Smashing Pumpkins - don't often see them mentioned on here, and have laid down some solid rock basslines during their tenancy in arguably one of the biggest Alt/Rock outfits of the last twenty years - it's always the sodding guitards/frontmen/drummers who hog all the limelight
I'm sure I read somewhere that Billy Corgan recorded the basslines on the albums as he's a massive control freak.
8.
I'm really surprised at that. Brad and Satchel were Shawn's springboard, so to speak, so I thought they'd still be readily available. Try Amazon, and look out for "Shame", "Interiors" and "Welcome to Discovery Park" (all Brad), and "The Family" by Satchel, which features Mike Berg on bass. I had a copy of EDC by Satchel, but struggled with it. I thought it was a bit too "trippy". You might be able to hear them on Spotify too. Conversely, I can't seem to get hold of Shawn Smith's solo stuff... Massive fan too, even the Pigeonhed album "The Full Sentence" is worth a look. "Battle Flag is fantastic.
I got and fell in love with 'Interiors' for a while but never got any Brad stuff beyond that. Might be time to round out the collection.
9. Yep, that should do fine. There's a lot of good feedback for the Behringer units on here.
10. Awesome. I'll have a review of my rig soon and definately consider picking one up. Looks like I'm getting the VT1 for sale on here so it will be good to have an all DHA rig
11. +1 for Mike Watt and Carol Kaye. My grunge background demands I mention Ben Shepherd (Soundgarden), Robert Deleo (Stone Temple Pilots) and John Curley (Afghan Whigs). None of them do anything particularly flashy but they're all amazing solid players who know when to go off on their own and when to rein it in.
12. Sansamp sold on ebay for £142. Not bad pricing! Hardwire still available.
13. Looks damn good, even for an Epi. How does it play/sound?
14. I used a Sansamp then an MXR, will this do the same job of going into the front of an amp and acting as a pre-amp?
15. Do not buy the Behringer aluminium cone bass cabs. They are apalling quality. I usually try and give a balanced opinion on stuff but you'd have to give me one for free before I took it and then I'd instantly remove and bin the speakers. I owned a 1*15 and a 2*10 and every single speaker broke within a couple of weeks of reasonable use and the last one blew, taking my amp head with it.
16. Great bassist but all I can think of is Alan Partridge dancing around his static home to 'Music for Chameleons' when I see his name mentioned.
17. Studio Electronics SE2000 seems to be a decent, if not outstanding all rounder. Reviews online are very positive and you can pick them up pretty cheap. I got mine 2nd hand for a bargainous £40.
18.
£90? I got one of the plain heavy duty cotton/suede ones for a tenner! It was this exact one - http://www.thomann.de/gb/levys_mssc8_blk_gitarrengurt.htm
I use a blonde one of those, goes well with my blonde Warwick. I think the 1st strap I ever got was a cheap Levys and now own a few on various guitars. Still got my first one, they've lasted for ages and for abot £12 you can't go wrong. Halfords do seatbelt cushion pads that would fit guitar straps for about £2-3. Beats spending silly money on straps.
19. Thanks for the advice, he's given it a miss and picked up a Laney PB400 in the meantime to tide him over while he looks for something better. I've told him to keep an eye on the for sale section on here. I had a look myself and now have serious GAS issues.
20. Sorry to be a killjoy but for a friends wedding back in April we had a band with 3 basschatters in, me, Finbar and Pliskin. Good luck with the gig anyway!
21. Nor would I. There's a nice spalted maple one on e-bay at the moment, lets see how the MOT goes on Thursday....
22. Other microphones are available!
