1. Interesting read. A man after my own heart when it comes to bass effects.
2. Seriously pondering the Aenima being a fan of both fuzz and Tool. Would you take Paypal if the buyer paid the fees?
3.
One of my favourite exponents of the distorted bass, Caleb Scofield of Cave In:
Yes to that and Converge. May I also add:-
4. Love the first 2 albums and the bass playing on them. Really took the songs to another level. The above suggestions seem sensible. Saw them on Jools Holland and it was Jazz through Ampeg.
5. They're not helping themselves by carrying some oddly chosen stock. I went in for some instrument cable and all they had was own brand or some really tacky make I forget the name of. Nothing decent.
6. That sounds really nice. You're giving me really bad GAS for a fretless. Impressive playing too BTW.
7. My landlady and her 4 kids live downstairs so any kind of noise past about 8pm is out. Shame, as I got a speaker cab with an 8" Jensen in years ago that has never been plugged in.
8.
I'm fairly sure they're identical to the Epiphone Valve Juniors - let us know how you get on with it Wayne, I never got on with my Epi as it was TOO loud and clean for home use (and didn't take pedals all that well) but not loud enough for live...they mod up well apparently, but I couldn't be arsed
They are, I've got one which has been modded to get rid of the hum and provide much higher gain than the stock amp. Still way too loud for home use and now distorts too easily (although very nicely) but a good 2nd recording amp to complement the Matamp. Not loud enough for live.
9. It's been like that since the other half of the shop across the road shut. Shame, the bass section used to be really good.
10. I think so. I got rid of the Bad Monkey as it altered my tone too much when it was switched off but I got a nice dirty Cave In sound out of it too. Shame the OD alternatives are all pretty pricey.
11. I'll give it a think, got another guitar which needs some work doing on it at the moment.
12. Everything working OK on it, no major work that needs doing or anything?
13.
Trouble is, its a Warwick! They seem to be the lepers of the bass world.
I've been trying to sell a Rockbass Corvette in good nick for £150 for ages with no luck. Hope you fare better than me.
14. I almost forgot:- Cave in - Seafrost
15. I have a 1 drink max limit in any case as I'm usually driving to gigs. Very rarely I'll take another onstage and drink it throughout the gig as long as it's not affecting my timing but that's pretty rare.
16. Why not buy a blend pedal? They seem like useful things to have in terms of bass effects generally, plus you can use any distortion you like with the option of blending it for bass. Edit: - And a bass player with some great distortion sounds IMO is Caleb from Cave In. I believe he uses a Rat and a Fulltone Fulldrive which are both primarily guitar pedals.
17. Darn, just saw this. Anyone know of anything similar or have a schematic for a really dirty, spluttery fuzz?
18. There's a few for sale on here, some real beauties, including a nice Corvette $$ 5 string for a ridiculously low £600. Get while the going's good! I've got a Streamer Pro-M myself and really love the sound but don't like the pickup placement as I keep hitting it with my pick.
19.
Alembic Triple Omega (this was mine, sadly no longer):
Might be just me but Alembics do nothing for me. I'm sure they play better than any bass I could ever reasonably afford but every time I see one I just think 'bleurgh!'. Horses for courses I guess.
20.
Similar experience
+1 I loved it, then they offered me a GT1 at a very reasonable price and I agreed there and then. Then I worried about how I was going to get the money for it. Wouldn't buy an off the shelf amp again. Great customer service too, bad power at a venue took out one of the tracks on the amp and they fixed it while I went upstairs at the factory and played through the speaker wall. No charge either. They did charge me for a re-tube but it was half the price you'd pay elsewhere. One of the bonus points of living an hours drive from the factory I guess.
21. Have a squitzy at this thread and let me know if you spot any gaping flaws in my plan. Thanks.
22.
Am I too old to play for the Saturdays
A friend of mine was checking in at a hotel a year or so ago when they walked in. No Frankie but he says Molly is amazing.
23.
Hi I'm am 13 and am just starting to play bass, currently I have a Squire Precision Bass but it is much to big for me. What would be a good buy for a good short scale bass on a budget? Thanks in advance!
There's a thread on short scale basses here. What kind of music are you hoping to play?
24.
+2
+3. Still love Disposition, as mentioned above and would love JCs bass tone generally.
