Hi Brian, I'm certainly interested in a swap, don't know if what I have is close enough for you (rubbish pic below), it's a genuine Fender part (vintage re-issue) I picked up a couple of months ago but never used. I reckon I'll stay with the bridge I bought it to replace, so currently it's not doing very much at all. I have another bass that's crying out for a Badass, so if you fancy a trade then PM me man. Oh, and if you fancied selling it let me know what kind of money you're after. Cheers! EDIT: Just seen this further down the list: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=111226 That's probably more like what you're looking for, just thought I'd give you a heads-up as missing out by a day or two is a bummer...

Really good man! Excellent, in fact. One day, I'll nail those succinct hand/finger movements... Thanks for the Sir Duke tute - my fingering on this is *way* different to what you're doing, and that's probably why I've only nailed it once in about a thousand attempts... And my hand nearly fell off. Cheers!

Hiya man. Wow, you got it for nowt, you say? I'd be made up. I bought this (for £80) last week: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=108033 Looks like they could've come from the same factory... Spookily enough (well, it is Halloween) the pick-guard on mine is bust in the exact same place. Got a new one on its way, along with other bits and pieces. I'm really quite pleased (and surprised) at how well it plays/sounds so I'm throwing a couple of extra quid at mine. Just seen this, you've probably got yourself a great-bargain there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hondo_%28guitar_company%29 Cheers for posting your pics. Always nice to see these old boomers!

Yep. Did a similar thing last year with this. Ended up costing me a pretty penny, but it's become my main bass. Seems to get better the more I get used to it. Caught the bug a bit since then, bought an old precision neck and badass II off shaggy for £50 a short while back and am in the process of fitting that to the original blue fernandes body - trying to do this for as cheap as this time around. Then just last week I bought this. Just ordered some new electrics/pickguard/knobs/bridge/thumbrest/strap buttons/nut and will probably spend the next month mostly staring at it, smoking and drinking too many cups of tea. Still, I'll have 2 new P's for Christmas!
Following a recent clear out of my high end basses I have decided to pick up some cheap intsruments and upgrade them. In the last week I have purchased a Squier VM Jazz and a J&D Fretless 4 stringer. I have no idea who J&D are but having dome some research and watched a few You tube clips at £160 I thought I would have a go. I must admit I am having a great time setting them up and replacing the Bridges, The pups and adding new pick guards etc. I probably won't get my money back but am enjoying seeing how good I can make them. Next on my list a Squire Classic Vibe P! Might start documenting what I have done with a few pics. I think in these hard times with finances perhaps its the way to go! Anyone else doing this/done this? Cheers, Steve.
Wow. Those p/ups. Now I've seen it all. Whoever did that is a genius. Or mental. Go on - get it working, let's hear it man!
Just won this on Ebay for £106. It's horrible isn't it? It is a Hondo Rick Copy with some really odd mods where someone has replaced the original pickups with a precision humbucker of unknown origin split in half. The body, neck bridge and machines are fine so I'll be stripping all the electronic/clear plastic nonsense and sourcing some pickups off here (please PM me if you have any knocking about). Hopefully should get it back into a more useable condition, it looks a bit unhappy at the minute!
Wow - that looks like a resto-project and a half..! Good luck with it, man. I hope you get the measurements you're after and that all the work goes smoothly! w./

Might seem like a really obvious suggestion, but there's this one up on ebay at the mo: http://cgi.ebay.com/FRAMUS-TRIUMPH-Upright...=item19c085254a It may be worthwhile dropping the seller a line and asking him for a few details/extra pics. I've done this in the past with a reasonable amount of success - some will help, others won't bother answering. Worth a go, though. w./
Does anyone on ehre own an early framus triumph by any chance? I'm restoring a black 56 model at the moment which is missing the chrome plate and bridge assembly. As getting the parts for these is pretty impossible Im going to get some made so need to get the correct measurements. PM me if you can help! thanks
-
Hehe. Arrived earlier today and weighs nearly as much as my 2 other P's put together..! Actually not all that bad, probably needs another £50 throwing at it, new strings and a few hours fettling, but even in its current state it plays reasonably well. Cool enough. Will replace the crackly pots and jack, but in all honesty the p/ups are sounding clean and round - probably the biggest surprise here. Rather hilariously, the bridge is on crooked and the nut is a filed out guitar nut, but the strings appear to be in the right place and everything's solid so I don't think it's too much of an issue and I'll straighten it all out in time - all in all, quite pleased with it! Posting some pics if any of ye are interested, although I'm sure you'd rather be looking at MM's and MIA-P's..! w./

Cheers Jon. Thanks for the correction and the extra bit of info, what I had gleaned (off the internet) was from a Vulcan Les Paul review I picked up elsewhere, but admittedly, that's no excuse for such an elementary error... I'll try to get my facts right next time! Yeah, the bass looks quite tidy for an old bit of timber - could have some character about it. Look forward to giving it a rattle tomorrow. Thanks again man! w./
Erm - there was no Korean Matsumoku factory. Matsumoku was in Matsumoto city, Japan. This is likely early 80s Korean - Japanese factories pretty much stopped making copies for export by the end of the 70s so that part of the market shifted to cheaper facilities in Korea, Taiwan etc. It's likely that Vulcan was simply the importer's choice of name and nothing to do with the factory that made it - that was the case with the vast majority of small 70s and 80s brands, and is still the case now. The neck looks quite tidy, body is almost certainly ply, though. Jon.
-
That vee looks cool. After a bit more of a dig around - apparently Vulcan was a brand name (amongst others) stuck on guitars coming out of the Korean Matsumoko factory. Possibly a forerunner to the Westone brand.
-
Probably plywood from the way the dark bit of the burst goes over the forearm contour - its probably like that to cover an otherwise exposed join
Yup, guessed that already. Don't mind that at all!
-
Hi all. Spotted this yesterday (pic below) and having always wanted a 'burst body (a cheap one over ply will do for now...) and at £80 I thought I'd take a punt. Should be with me tomorrow. I've put a couple of bitsa-P's together over the past year and I'm reasonably confident that I'll be able to get something that's playable set up - even if it means swapping out the neck at some point (hmm... maybe for a jazz) and dropping in a spare set of p/ups I have lying around, so I'm not too fussed that I may have bought a lemon. What is weird, though, is I can't find any other Vulcan P's out there... Is this a homebuild d'ya think?
-
Had this for ages. Never really used it properly. Unfortunately the battery cover is missing - and here's the weird thing: there are 3 of these currently up on ebay and all of 'em are missing their battery covers... Other than that, it's in good nick. No box, though. £28 posted (UK only), or make me an offer. Pics attached.

Alright. Got a couple of items I want to shift as per Topic Description. Double split EMG Selects to drop into a P-Bass, pretty good condition, a couple of string-dings, but otherwise fully functional. Pff - I dunno, £17 posted registered...? Hipshot D-Tuner in what appears to be an M4 Schaller fitment (bushing is 12mm diameter). It's old and a bit dusty (you can just about make out 'Made in W Germany' stamped on the back..!) but it's fully functional and includes the mounting screw. Hmm - they go for around £60 new, so £35 (posted registered) alright for ya? Drop us a line if you're interested, or make us an offer if I've priced unrealistically... Cheers.
Nice one. I was listening to this song the other day & thinking "I wouldn't mind learning that sometime". I might actually do it now!
Had the same thought. Just started learning it the other night. Top line!

Hehe. Very cool. Nicely done man!

Recording bass onto my MacBook - what do I need to get started?
waldemar replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Recording
Hey Guns, No problem whatsoever - like I say, it's really quick and straightforward to plug in, fire up the software and get cracking! Hardly any tweaking was involved - I just selected an amp, added a bit of compression and off I went...
If it is any comfort I downloaded James Jamerson's bassline from What's Going On by Marvin Gaye and on it's own it sounded quite bad I mean almost amateurish but mix it with the track and it is one of the most divine basslines that I know!
Ah, that's good to hear - everything always sounds so mediocre unaccompanied (apart from the virtuoso solo stuff, which isn't really my bag but always drops my jaw...) phil.i, like i said - from personal experience I've always found going in via the mic/line-in to yield pretty poor results on my Mac (ie. a thin and weedy sound). For the sake of £70, not only do you get a nice fat, clean, latency-free signal into your PC, you've also got the option to sculpt that sound in real time, or later - in my case via the Garageband effects panel. Before I bought the GX I considered one of these. But to be honest, the extra modeling features of the GX are well worth the extra bit of dosh. Cheers! EDIT: Just found this - might be of some help to some readers of this thread: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul01/arti...usician0701.asp -
Recording bass onto my MacBook - what do I need to get started?
waldemar replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Recording
Hiya Guns. I was asking a similar question not so long ago after trying to go into my Mac's line in/mic whilst using a Tascam Bass Trainer as a kinda pre-amp. I also tried via the DI on my ancient Laney 30 practice amp, but in both instances I was pretty disappointed. Someone recommended that I try out a Line6 GX (http://line6.com/podstudiogx/) which I did, and I'm pretty impressed. It works great with GB and the Pod Farm effects are available to apply via the GB interface at a later stage should you want to record your bass signal clean. Furthermore, you can pick 'em up new for around £70. Bargain. It's probably a long way off from pro-level, but as a 'sketch pad' it's great! Set-up time is next to nothing - just drop the audio file you want to jam over into GB, create a new real instrument track, fire-up Pod Farm, hit record on GB and start playing! I'm uploading a short audio clip of me playing over a track - at around 55 seconds I drop the levels of the master so that you can hear what the bass is up to more clearly (oh dear). As ever, double-check that your laptop/OS is compatible with the extra stuff you're buying - although if you're on something new then you should be alright. Hope this helps. -
Because it's an .avi, the process becomes a bit more convoluted on the Mac... Check out the VLC player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ In theory this should be all you need. It plays most things, and can export most things, but I've found its export feature to be very unreliable, usually resulting in failure... You might try Perian: http://perian.org/#detail It's free and will enable you to open the .avi in the QuickTime player, but to extract/export the audio from the QuickTime player, you'll need to have upgraded to QuickTime Player Pro. For accurate trimming down of the loops I use an app called Audacity, once again free, and available here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ There may be other ways of doing this without having to buy the QT Pro player, but the chances are that they'll be long-winded and a bit flaky. Hope this helps in some way. w./

+1 on the line 6 Gear. I was wanting to do a similar thing (record bits and pieces in an uncomplicated and for not a lot of money style) I bought a Pod Studio GX a while back. http://line6.com/podstudiogx/ Around 70/80 quid. Bloomin' marvelous device and works perfectly with Garageband. You're not just grabbing your sound at good quality - you can model how it sounds too. It's ace.
Ampeg SVT
That, if I owned it, would be the unluckiest SVT in the world...

Hi all. Gas-ing for a new smallish combo. Around the 100W mark. Anything up to £300. I can't ever see me using it in anything other than a practice room or pub, and the last large combo I had (Laney DP15010) was plenty enough for what I was using it for. Of course, I'll try before I buy, but in your expert (or otherwise ) opinions, which stands out from the following 3 options? What's going to please/annoy me? For example - I really like the Ampeg for it's looks and brand reputation, but I've read that it's hissy... Ampeg BA115 http://www.ampeg.com/products/bassamp/ba115/index.html Hartke A100 http://www.samsontech.com/products/product...2&brandID=3 Ashdown EB 12-180 EVO II http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.as...n=eb&ID=102 I'm after a clean round (warm?) sound in general, but occasionally push the treble up a bit. My bass is an '83 Japanese re-issue of a '57 P-bass, fitted with Lollar pups. Musical genre is mainly blues/alt-folk/rock. Thanks for any advice you can give me! Cheers!
ive stumbled across the warmoth website and it looks great. Anyone had any experience with them?
I'd totally recommend 'em. I replaced the body of an early '80s Fernandes P Bass a little while back with a ready-made off the shelf Warmoth that popped up on their site - I put a thread up here at the time. It arrived quickly, well packaged and totally A1 pristine. The finish was excellent. The neck dropped straight in. A perfect fit, although the pocket may have been ever so slightly deeper than on the original Fernandes body, but not enough to cause me any issues. Just watch out for P&P (never gonna be cheap) along with import duty that'll be payable to the courier on delivery. Even having had it for a while, the Warmoth body still puts a smile on my face. [EDIT] Oh, yeah. My body came pre-drilled except for the strap button holes.
