1.
Materialistic purchase is an addiction...i.e. there is a definite, short term high following the acquisition of a new "item" (bass). But here's the thing...as with any addiction the high doesn't last and the subsequent "come down" leaves the addict with a desire to recapture the high. To compound this the law of diminishing returns is at work...the high weakens after each hit (purchase)...leaving the addict forever seeking the same high that the original hit provided! A word to the wise...this site is populated by and large by bass purchase addicts. It's almost as if the central, most important core of the activity ....the human being interaction of playing the instrument to make music...is of no importance! Don't believe me? Compare the amount of gear related posts to playing tip inquiries on bass chat..........
I think this is spot on.
2.
Depends if the tension between them is similar or not.
This. Some flats are low tension (Thomastik, La Bella black/white nylons) though.
3. The scratchplate in question is from a 1971 P bass, and has a notcable curl adjacent to the corner of the treble pickup.
4. A friend of mine, knowing I'm a bass player, assumed I would be able to identify this instrument. I have no idea what it is, but I am confident the BC posse will be able to confirm?! Cheers Gareth
5. I imagine it wold be an absolute pleasure to get up every morning and go to work there....
6.
They're plain....I'm after a wound one...thanks for trying :-)
I didn't spot that. The D'Addario is plain steel, but the Rotosound appears to be roundwound.
7. Strings Direct sell two
8. Swapped the necks over and I prefer them this way. Also had the added benefit of shifting the weight a touch, making the basses more equally balanced and weighted.
9. A good choice. I played that bass the last time I was there and it just felt right. Enjoy!
10. Two seriously good cabs right there. I had the same setup a while back and it was fantastic.
11. Genuine Fender tortoiseshell 4-ply (tort/white/black/white) scratchplate from a Tony Franklin Precision Bass . A friend sourced it for me from the US so I could try it on my fretted TF bass, but it doesn't look right to me against the amber body finish. It was on the bass for less than a day. It is a 13 hole version and should fit the American Standard series.T The only difference between this and a standard 'plate is this one has a slot in it for a pickup selector switch (on the TF it allows for P, J or P+J), so perfect if you are planning to mod your P bass! I'm looking for £50 posted in the UK. Collection in NE Hampshire or Central London also welcome for £47. Thanks Gareth
12. Bump for a seriously nice bass, I have fretted and fretless of this model: probably the best regular Fender with Custom Shop quality.
13. Recently bought this off Sk8 (thread here), but have decided to stick with my Bigshot i/o for changing between basses. Good condition with PSU. I'm looking for a firm £135 posted in the UK. Thanks Gareth
14. What is the amp's output at 8 ohms?
15.
What bass and cab were you using?
Fender Tony Franklin PJ and a Bergantino HD210
16.
Totally forgot about this sorry... Hipshot HB2 92g Hipshot Ultralite 54g 70's style Fender tuner 110g Gotoh GBR640 62g
Hey no worries, thanks for checking! Looks like it may have to be Ultralites after all. Do you know if the screw hole for an Ultralite would be hidden by the plate of the regular Fender 70s tuner if the originals were put back on?
17.
It sounds like she's agreed some fairly rigorous anti-scalping measures with the promoters.
Yep, ID to be shown by original purchaser prior to entry.
