1.
I know exactly what you mean. I don't understand why modern tort plates are so dreadful. The Bass Doc is your man though. He does source from WD and the results look like this. Two Bass Doc torts and an original 1971 side by side.
I would like to see this picture as a larger file, to really check out the detail.
2. My 1970 fretless P had the most beautiful tortoiseshell scratchplate on it, whereas the one on my new Tony Franklin looks like a pretty average facsimilie. 1970 P 2012 Tony Franklin Why aren't they the same? I assume it's something to do with the material they are made out of now? Cheers Gareth
3.
not relevant to anything but that fretless franklin model sounds amazing !
Very relevant, and thanks!
4. I've played old basses that sound amazing, and new ones that sound amazing too. I have also played old basses that sounded rubbish, and new ones that sounded crap too. I think a lot of it actually comes down to feel, rather than the sound per se. There's something about a bass that's been played a lot that just feels right. So many intangibles at play....
5. Sorry, not at this time no.
6. With my new Demeter amp due to arrive next week, I am putting my terrific Aguilar Tonehammer 500 up for sale. I bought this amp from Bass Gear in August last year. It's had a very easy life since then, maybe 3-4 gigs and a similar number of rehearsals. I did this little review soon after I bought it: And I also used it for the review of my new Tony Franklin basses: Condition is very good. The face plate is perfect, but there are four light scuffs on the top. Price-wise, the recent increase in Aguilar prices means these are now selling for £675. Stocks are limited out there too. I am looking for a firm £500 collected or £515 posted in the UK (in the original packaging). No trades and no offers, thanks. Collection from NE Hampshire or Central London welcome. Thanks Gareth
7. I played a 4 string single pickup US model in Wunjos just before Christmas. It was a very well put together bass and sounded fab, but it was too neck heavy for me to consider ever buying it.
8. Anyone run one of these with a bass?
9. It's just that it's a non-debate IMHO: if you want the DI, get the DI version. If I had called this thread "Should it be compulsory for the new Demeter Minnie VTBP-M-800D to be fitted with a DI" or "What's the point of an amp without a DI?" then I would have expected such debate. Anyway, no big deal.
10. Major thread derailment guys If you want the DI version of this head then buy it. If you don't, dont.
11.
Is it that much more to have it included?
Yes, but I don't know how much on a UK-imported one.
12.
Why select non-DI? Does the inclusion of the Jensen output transform DI bump the price or is the price Barrie quoted inc' this feature?
All my work is live and small scale, so I have no need for a DI.
13. I spotted this photo on Facebook a couple of weeks back and was intrigued... It turns out that Demeter are bringing out a new tube preamp/class D power amp head: the Minnie VTBP-M-800-D! I have ordered one (non-DI) from the good people at Bass Gear, and it should be with me in a couple of weeks - first one in the UK!
14.
My new Tony Franklin fretless has come in a 9lb 8oz
Any my new Tony Franklin fretted weighs 8lb 12oz...
15. Sold a set of strings to Rich. Perfect deal and I would happily transact with him again!
16. That sucks. Looks like G&G sell replacements though.
17. I own a BSX Allegro which, to my ears, does a great job.
18. Wow, that is a beautiful example of a terrific (and rare) bass
19. I sold Steve a gig bag. The deal was as smooth and silk and he was a pleasure to deal with. Hopefully next time we can grab a beverage and have a bit of a natter.
20.
and we all know how hard these are to find in the UK (ask walbassist!)
Yes indeed, they are hard to find, but oh so worth it! I actually bought both of mine from this guy, so if anyone wants to go down this road PM me and I will tell you about my (very positive) experience with this seller
21. And down to two...
