1.
The TTE does also overdrive a bit as well doesn't it ? It is nice and useable for that ? COuld you compare it's OD to anything else ?
You can certainly overdrive it, but it's not something I have tried to do to any great extent. That said, varying the position of the gain knob can really change the tone coming from the amp, especially as it impacts on the compressor quite a bit.
2.
Nice one ! I haven't had the opportunity to play through on of these yet, but have noticed that they don't seem to have taken off in popularity as I thought they would. Those who have them seem to rave about them, but doesn't seem like the shops can shift them at all. Anyone any thoughts about this ? Walbassist, I know you used to own a Spyder 550 (my current amp), how would you compare the TTE to it ?
My guess is that the TTE is not that popular because it's quite an expensive option for what is a fairly basic amp. While the core tone is lovely, the eq is very basic, which may well put people off. I sold my Spyder after getting the TTE. I loved the Spyder tone, but I just felt the TTE was a touch more refined, plus I liked the tube-driven compressor and eq sections. It also looks super cool and is a good weight.
3. I've just put some NOS Sylvania 12AX7WA (US military "ruggedised" valves) in mine, good golly they sound good.

6. I have a VT5, which is the PJ configuration California. I have to say that the J pickup in the bridge position isn't lacking at all, it has penty of output, although naturally due to the positioning it sounds different to the P pickup in the neck position. I would image the MM pickup there sounds huge. I agree with the Captain's comments about the EQ: it is pretty subtle compared to a lot of active eq systems, but very useable.
7. I sold a strap to Peter. Great communication and a pleasure to deal with. I'd happily to business with him again.
8. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Sandberg yet. Great basses.
9. Astonished this is still here, these are such good amps!
10. So, I treated my Veillette to a new set of La Bella black nylons today - the old set had been on there for three years so I figured they needed a rest, although I won't be throwing them away - but I noticed that a couple of the strings felt a bit rough under the finger, as though there were little nicks in them. Anyone else experience this?
11.
it must look like a P, have a P pickup & not be a vintage Fender.
So it doesn't have to be a Fender then?
12. If you look through the classifieds here on BC you should get a good idea, but I'd imagine 450-500 is realistic. You may also want to return it to stock by refitting the original bridge.
13. It's a variant of the Star Bass Singlecut (below) I believe, although Guy's is not hollow bodied. First Warwick I've liked in a long time.... There's a custom shop double neck too for Lee Sklar!
14. I'd love this gig, but I'm probably just a little too far away for it to be practical
15. I have played fretless exclusively for about five years. That said, I recently picked up a very nice fretted PJ5 which I'm playing a lot, but I'm still not sure it'll get a look in at a gig any time soon.
16. Yes, I saw that too, horrible. Straight back to Paul for a full refurb methinks...
17. Shall I ask if they can put you a custom set together at the same time?
18. Would a string the same length as the ones I need do for you? If so, I could ask them to run off an extra E string and package up a third set (with the other three at regular length) for you?
19.
OK, let us know how they are. I might try them on my Takamine B10 which also needs order direct from La Bella.
What length do you need? My Veillette sets will be 38.75" long.
20. Yes, they are a custom length so need to be a special order.
21. I have a set for my Veillette incoming in a couple of weeks. Eric at La Bella says tension is the same as the black nylons, but the whites are "faster" and "brighter". I'll do an A/B recording and will report back
