1. I've always had a fascination for these, but they are big beasts (3" longer than a P bass) and I am not sure just how off putting the 15 fret neck would be. I certainly wouldn't want to put up any readies to buy one without trying it first, in case it turned out to be a horrible player. That said, they are out there, in fact there are two on eBay right now, but I suspect the rarity factor keeps the price up rather than their playability. 3. I loved the 550 I had. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8QibZQbxSc&feature=plcp I believe the (discontinued) rackmount versions were all UK built?
  4. I've just got a Pedaltrain Nano to mount by Radial Bigshot i/o, TC Polytune and Source Audio Programmable EQ on. George L cables and a 1 Spot. Nice.....
  5.
You star! Thank you!!
My pleasure. Suggest you buy a mix of 8-12mm just to be sure.
  6.
Where did you get the shorter bridge screws from by the way? I could do with some.
I got them from here. 8mm for the E and G, 10mm for the A and D if I remember correctly.
  7.
I'm wondering if I need one always loaded with flats, and another with rounds, maybe the same again but with different 'boards....
Clearly, you need my bass
  8.
Is it basswood or alder?
The modern PB57 is basswood now, but I have no idea what they were made of back in the late 80s. Sorry
  9. I had a totally stock 73 that was as follows
What colour the scratch plate is supposed to be as standard ? - tortoiseshell, three ply Is the sunburst two or three tone ? - three tone Where the tugbar is (I think below) - below the g string What's on the neck plate ? - large F, with serial number above
10. Hmm, I wonder if this and the Thumper pickup would work in the MIJ P bass I have for sale. I know mine's a "13 hole" scratchplate, but if it did fit I'd be interested!
  11. Sunny Sunday photo opp bump... The small, smooth chip on the back of the neck. Scratches from where someone kept sticking a pick under the scratchplate (looks worse than it is due to bright sun!)
  12.
An active Warwick Rockbass Corvette sends the needle into the red zone at around 50% of input gain through the high input. Switching to low input socket and a bit more on the gain makes the needle react a bit slower without excessive peaking.
And is this a giggable volume?
  13. I had an ABM300 for a while and it was a cracking little amp. Plenty loud enough for the bands I was playing in at the time, neither of which were exactly shy on the volume front. Important to eliminate as many potential problems as possible before you take it to a tech so, as RandomBass said, where's the input needle getting to when you play? Any chance you have the input switch set to active instead of passive? Failing all the abve, some folks say that certain amp/cab combinations just don't work well, so perhaps this is one! Cheers Gareth
  14.
The whole band should be going through a PA system with FOH engineer.
+1 to this. Bass frequencies disappear very quickly in a live setting, so FOH is pretty much essential.
  15.
Mmmm, anyone used this rig with DB, it is tempting?
I have, and EUB, and electric: it was great. Clean and uncoloured. I've also never used an amp that had so little background hiss.
  16.
Just showing off then? PM me when you've your mind.
Huh?
  17. Having now left the Jam/Weller tribute band I was in, this bass is surplus to requirements. NB: The fretless underneath is NOT for sale. It's a "Made in Japan" Fender with an H serial prefit, so from 1988/9. Overall condition is good: the body does have a few bumps and scratches, but nothing through to the wood. The main scratches are at the top of the scratchplate, where a previous owner used to push their pick in for storage, and there is also a small, shallow dent in the top under where your right forearm would rest. The neck has one small scrape on the back that is through to the wood, but it's smooth under the hand and doesn't affect playability at all. You can also hear it being played in my LB30 review here All original, as far as I can tell, apart from the saddle adjustment screws, which I have swapped out for shorter ones so they don't dig into your arm. I still have the originals and will include them. Weight is a shade under 9lbs, and balance is good. Comes with a standard Fender gig bag. £450 firm collected from NE Hampshire or Central London (WC2). Cheers Gareth

    Mr. Foxen

Bought a set of Brimar valves from Oli. Good items and very reasonably priced too! I'd buy from him again without hesitation.
  19. I found the 760FM set just a touch too "tight" tuned to standard on a 34" scale, so they may be perfect tuned down a semitone.
  20.
Don't Markbass make a similar model in the Randy Jackson signature? Cheaper too, IIRC.
The Markbass TTE heads have tube preamp, compression, and eq, but the power sections are abalog (500 watt version) or digital (800 watt version).
Off topic I know but does anybody gig the LB30, has it got sufficient power?
I gigged mine and it was plenty loud enough for my needs, but I guess it depends how loud you play/cab size/PA support etc... Cheers Gareth
