How did I miss this thread? My 1970 P bass and the Veillette Archtop and can I put my BSX Allegro upright in here too?

Sold Dean some picks. A small deal, yes, but top notch communication and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended.

Depends what sort of rock sound you are after I guess. Markbass is know for clean, but they do make some heads that have tubes in them if you want (at least a bit of) grit.

As a finger style player all my 30-odd playing years, after joining a Jam/Weller tribute band last year I tried out loads of different sizes, shapes and gauges. I finally settled on Rotosound Celluloid Abalone heavy gauge rounded triangles, which are the same as Bruce Foxton uses, although I also like the V Picks Tremolo.

Ashdown Classic Neo Cabs - SOLD
franzbassist replied to franzbassist's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Hmm, as you say, very subjective to describe, but obviously very loud with 500 watts going through them! Hard for me to say how they sound compared to other Ashdown cabs as I've never owned any, but what I would say is they sound good individually, the tweeters give a nice sparkle, and they both work well as stand alone cabs too. The 1x15 isn't flabby at all, nice and tight, and the 2x10 has plenty of punch and throw. Does that help at all? -

Just bought these, they are brand new and unused (well, I tried them once just to check all was okay), but my decision to switch to Markbass means they will be going back for a refund. Ashdown blurb here, although I should add that when I popped the cover off one and looked inside the driver said it was rated 200 watts, not the 125 watts the website says. If no one wants them I will return them to Thomann, but I figured I'd offer them here first as, frankly, shipping within the UK is much cheaper than shipping to Germany! If no interest by Monday I shall ship them back to Germany. Cheers all Gareth EDIT: RETURNING THEM TO GERMANY FOR REFUND

My decision to sell my LB30 means I can move on almost all of the valves I bought to try out in it. 12AY7 (45% gain) 2 x Electro Harmonix 12AY7 = £13.50 (not tested by me, but new) EL84 4 x PHILIPS NOS from 1967 = £16.00 (these have not been tested by me) All valves, except where noted, have been tested and work. Prices are per valve and do not include postage. Cheers Gareth

My huge overhaul of gear has taken me down to an amp and single cab setup, and while I absolutely love this head I really can’t justify keeping it, so it with a heavy heart that I put up my UK-made Ashdown Little Bastard all-valve 30 watt head. As I’m sure most folk on BC know, Ashdown’s first run of these heads was limited to 100 units completed here in the UK. This one is number 27 and was originally sold by Gamlins in Cardiff. The head has served me very well and has the tone that only valves can deliver. Condition is very good, just a couple of small bumps in the chrome panel. It’s plenty loud enough to gig with, and depending on what valves (and which input) you use, you can eradicate most or all of the grit if you just want it to play clean. Indeed, the head is currently fitted with two NOS Mullard ECC81s (cost £24, made for the Ministry of Defence and designated CV4024 in Mitcham in Week 2 of October 1984) that give about 60% of the standard ECC83's gain and clean the sound up perfectly for me, a JJ ECC82 as the driver, and four JJ EL84s as the power section complete the glow coming from inside. Also included in the sale is a Roqsolid cover (£22), OBBM speakon-jack speaker cable (£12), and a 2m jack-jack speaker cable (£15). I made a video to demo the amp, which you can see on Youtube as below: Given that it’s a UK model, has upgraded tubes, and has a number of other extras I’m asking £475 collected from NE Hampshire or Central London, or add £15 for a basic (i.e. next day, £50 insurance) courier service.

Great bass, but just not getting played.

Hipshot Supertone bridge (I think I paid £70) original bridge also included
La Bella 760FM flatwound strings (£30)
OHSC (£90)
Condition is excellent. The back of the neck has been sanded very lightly to take away the stickiness. It'll work back to gloss in time, but at the moment it is a light satin and very fast. £450 collected from NE Hampshire or Central London (WC2). If you need it posted we'll have to talk. PICS TO FOLLOW Cheers Gareth
Never played in 'bleeding ears' type of band! Country/folk/roots is what I do! Most times it's just mildly amplified! So can't explain how it decided it should be me!
It may not even be down to music, although constant exposure over the years can certainly do it, even at moderate levels. Tinnitus can be caused by extreme, one-off trauma, or a few loud percussive events, just as easily as it can by sticking your head in a bass bin at a Megadeaf concert! It can also come on naturally later in life as part of the wear and tear of getting older. The key, once you have it, is managing it and making sure you minimise the chances of it getting worse. I've worn moulded earplugs for about 15 years and would never gig without them. The technology is so good that I find I enjoy the music more now as it's much less fatiguing.
