1. Sold a cab to Dean. It took a while for me to get the cab to him, but he was patient and happy to pay up front. Recommended.
  2. Hi folks After years of only playing fingerstyle, my ventures into pick playing have been interesting so far! I keep thinking I've settled on a weight, buy a few, and then realise I need something heavier! For your delectation... Dunlop Ultex - 45p each 0.60 x 1 Little Stubby 1.0 x 1 2.0 x 1 3.0 x 1 Jazz Red 1.0 Jazz I rounded tip x 1 Jazz III x 2 Jazz Black 1.38 Jazz I rounded tip x 2 Jazz III x 2 Ultex Jazz III (1.38) x 2 Jazz Ultex III (2.0) x 2 Prices do not include postage, and obviously I'd prefer to sell in multiples to keep costs down (will also discount!) Cheers Gareth
  3.
Never tried the Klystron stuff but Ashdown gear DOES sound great and this gets good reviews... Can't hurt especially for that price!
Absolutely! I have the 2x10 and 1x15 from the same range and they are very good.
  4. This seems like a killer deal to me.
  5. My favourite Foxton story (told before here on BC so apologies if you've heard it before)... My band was playing at The White House in Guildford, must be ten years ago now, when Mr Foxton walks in, orders a pint, and proceeds to sit at the bar watching us.... no pressure there then! We finish the set and clear off to our table and, no sooner do we get there, Bruce comes over and gets a round in! We're all a touch gobsmacked, to say the least, but minutes later he's back with a drink for everyone and then joins us for the rest of the break. He seemed genuinely interested in us, and was a pleasure to talk to. He stayed for most of the second set and gave us a nod as he left. The bloke is class, plain and simple. Cheers Gareth
  6.
I'm in the market for the regular sized Gramma so perhaps if I bought yours it would at least go someway to helping both of us out - whereabouts in NE Hampshire are you? PM me if you'd prefer not to discuss on this thread.
Good plan, PM sent.
  7.
Just out of interest are the dots on the side in the same place on a fretless or located to where the fret would be - or both if it depends on the luthier?
On an unlined they are usually (but not always, so check!) where the fret would be. On a lined, they're mid-fret.
  8. Interesting one. Is it a proper vintage (as in old, not the budget make) bass? If so, taking at apart to get as much provenance as possible seems reasonable, to me at least! I you do take the neck off, how will you test it's okay? Do you just want to be able to check it turns in both directions a bit, returning it to "neutral" afterwards?
  9.
Is that a P-Retro on the Fender Walbassist? How does it fit with the fretless sound? Mine is on a fretted P and I'm liking it very much. Big GAS problem now is whether I'm brave enought to go UNLINED. Still peeking out from behind the sofa on this one though.
Yes it is, or rather was, as I decided the bass really didn't need any extra help in the tone department. It's back to passive volume and tone now. Great preamp though! I would say go unlined: it's very liberating, and if you've played fretted long enough your "fretting" hand will fall into the right shape anyway. You always have side dots for big jumps!
  10.
You'll need a hat also
I love the hat!
  11. My main gigging bass is a 1970 fretless P. Bashed up but such a great player and tone......
  12.
Do you need a cab attached to use the di? I couldn't use the di on it's own?
Yes, you must have a speaker (or dummy, I guess) load attached to these heads.
  13.
You had a contract, that it was verbal does not matter, you fulfilled it. They failed to fulfill it. Small claims court, join the union now and they will deal with it for you. Most importantly the manager should learn not to treat people in this way.
This ^^^

    MB1 Feedback

Another excellent transaction with Martin, this time an Ashdwon Mini Neo 1x15. Great communication, prompt payment, and all the MB1 humour we know and love
  15. Ah, my first "real" amp was one of these. Have a Tracelicious bump on me Marc!
  16.
Basically when they do start going they will show signs of tone changes, microphonics which i think I've heard via guitarist Marshall whereby when he touched the amp or moved it it gave a pinging type of sound and eventually a squealing if that makes sense ? would that be right. ?
Yep, that's the classic symptoms you describe.
Can you replace yourself as I've heard of bias settings need set up.
Bias only applies to power stage valves. Preamp valves are just a case of swapping in and out. Simples.
  17. Preamp tubes should last for years, although their life span can be shortened by sudden changes in temperature, knocks and bumps etc... Assuming they are treated well, they should only need replacing when they become noisy or microphonic.
  18.
I was just going to post - who do we know played a Wal like this?
Said in his best "Through the Keyhole" voice That is a good looking Wal indeed, but agree it's overpriced.
  19. It would appear that this is a known fault
  20. I have used Interparcel a lot lately. Whenever I use UPS or City Link through them the guys always turn up on schedule, are polite and efficient, but if I use TNT it's a total lottery! I even had a TNT office call to say the driver was in my road but couldn't find my house, so I told them exactly where I lived and they still failed to pick up on the scheduled day! Interparcel are always great at refunding if a collection is missed, but as you say, it doesn't compensate for the wasted time....
