1. I recently sold a cab to Ian. A pleasure to deal with: great communication, prompt payment etc. No hesitation in recommending him.
2. My Gramma is too small for my new cabs, so looking to upgrade to a Great Gramma. Anyone want to swap+cash to you?
3. Does it have to be all valve? If so, then the Ashdown LB30 is a good starting point: it's only 30 watts but plenty loud enough for most pubs and clubs if you have decent cab(s) to go with it. If you want more power then maybe consider the hybrids with valve preamp section and either MOSFET (e.g. Ashdown Dual Tube series) or digital power sections (e.g. Genz Benz Streamliner, Gallien Krueger MB Fusion). All the tone, but none of the weight an all-tube head brings.
4.
I guess I could amend it...
That was what I was thinking!
5. Thanks, everyone, for your comments. I think I'm going to go with an SPB2 and a KiOgon wiring harness for now.
6. Musicians' Union contract?
7. So my '88 MIJ P bass is lovely, really well put together, lightweight and a pleasure to play. The only weakness I think it has is that the pickups don't have much weight behind them, so I was thinking about swapping them out for something with a bit more output. As the bass is stock I am a litle hesitant to do this, but as it's not exactly a rare bass I guess it'll never be worth big money anyway, and as I could always return it to original would a couple of solder joints make a huge difference? The other question is what to drop in there if I do change? I'd like it to keep the sound of a P bass, so nothing that colours the tone too much, but it must have more oomph, so Wizard, Fralin, Nordstrand, a Seymour Duncan? What does the BC massive think? Cheers Gareth
8.
I think I bought the Levy's bag from you a couple of years ago? What was it you didn't like about them - its my regular gigging bag these days, and apart from limited storage, I find it hard to fault. I even bought a double version (and I don't like double bags!).
Indeed you did! The only thing I don't like about Levy's bags is when you use them for basses with angled headstocks: I wanted something that cushioned the neck to prevent any damage should the bag take a tumble!
9. What kind of venues are you playing, and does the bass go through the PA? I found my M300 and 6B cab was too "polite" in most pubs and small clubs, and you'd be pushing less air with the PB300. Cheers Gareth
10. I liked the Mono bag but never really though the protection was that good. The Contego wins on that score but is a lot heavier. The Protection Racket is also a nice bag, but it bugs me that they're so deep, you could almost fit two basses in there!
11. Pete always said that the neck was the single most expensive element in the making of a Wal.
12.
It's definitely an LB, and yes it did have the box but I used it to ship my Barefaced cab to barneyg42 last week, sorry! Maybe he'll send it to you? Mayeb it's a certain limited edition of the LB212 that just had 20 made, there're are couple of shops currently listing the LB212 as in stock.
Well who knows?! I'll drop him a line to see if he kept the box, cheers!
13. Should also mention these are UK-made cabs, for those that are that way inclined.
14.
Where did you hear that there only 20 made? I bought a new one a few weeks ago and the store still has 2 more in stock! Steve
Guy from Ashdown told me in an email. I still have it if you want proof! Are you sure they were all LB series and not VS? Did yours come in the box, and did you keep it? If so, could I borrow it to ship mine?! Cheers Gareth
15.
Yeah very good call putting it back to standard. Stunning bass. If you ever want to sell and I find a large stash of cash hidden under my bed then give me a shout
I shall keep that in mind, althought I can't see it goimng anywhere... although I've said that many time before
16.
Wow, that 1970 Fretless Precision is my dream bass as its the year of my birth and fretless. Totally stunning.
Thanks, and yes, it is an amazing bass: light, woody, resonant. It's become my main bass very quickly. I put it back to passive though, as although the P Retro was nice, it wasn't the tone!
17.
still not interested in splitting mate?

Shame your not splitting, I'm after the 1x15 in this format. Jem
If Jem still wants the 1x15 and you want the 4x8 then I'd be happy to split.
18. Never been but I bought a Ken Smith from Paul a few years back and the transaction was smooth as....
19. I have decided to rationalise my cabs down to just a 2x10 and 1x15, so this original series Ashdown LB212 is up for sale. The original LB cabs were either 1x12 or 2x12s with neo drivers, and produced in the UK to coincide with the release of the LB30 head. Only 20 LB212s were made, so it's a rare cab, and is rated at 300 watts with a 4 ohm impedance. You won't find a new one anywhere (I know that for a fact, as I contacted everyone who had them listed on their websites when I was looking only to be offered the VS212 instead, which is 8 ohms and non-neo), and they sold for £368 new (the VS212 sells for £299). This cab is in mint condition and has seen very little use. I am including a Roqsolid cover (£30) and asking a firm £275 collected from NE Hampshire. Cheers Gareth
