1.
Even better cabs than mine and lighter to carry (and courier). Bah humbug bump
Sorry
2. Please somebody buy my stuff for sale so I can get this!
3. Just bought a power amp for my band's PA use from Grahame. He went out of his way to get the amp to us quickly and even let us use it at two gigs before we splashed the cash. The guy's a gent, and I would recommend him without reservation!
4. Postage is looking like £15 per cab with a standard (i.e. £50 cover) next day service per cab. Insured to £250 adds £6 per cab.
5.
I have the combo version of the Spyder head (550 Touring), excellent amp, not being a natural bass player I probably don't use the amp to its full potential. However, it produces the sound I like and has plenty of Oomph. I too changed the stock valves to JJ's due to one of the chinese valves going microphonic, Ashdown sent a new set of JJ's as the amp is still under warranty. If I had the spare cash I would certainly be interested in buying your head as I have another side project I looking at. Lee
Cheers Lee! I hope your project gets going soon!
6.
MB1. PMd.
MB1 on a mission to buy all the Ashdown in the world, mwahaha!!!!
7. As Bassbus says, the nut should be cut really low, on some fretless basses I've seen it is actually touching the fingerboard! Neck should be almost straight, but with a hint of relief. An easy check is to "fret" and the first fret and the end of the neck, and look at the gap between the string and the fingerboard around the 9th fret: there should be a gap (the string has to be able to vibrate when plucked without hitting the 'board), but not much. Also make sure your bridge saddles follow the radius of the fingerboard. The Gary Willis setup manual is a good place to start. Good luck!
8. Both cabs side by side on the floor and the amp on top in the middle? Just a thought.....
9. Super super heads.. Lovely warm, creamy valve goodness... Plenty loud enough to do a pub or small club gig with... Stick some lower gain valves in the preamp if you want a clean sound... What's not to like?
10.
very nice review - i wish more were like that. now, of course i want it, and i hate you !
Haha, sorry about that. I shot it totally off the cuff, which is why I come up with such gems as "when you turn it up, it gets louder"! D'oh! Anyway, half tempted to keep this as it does sound so good, but for now it is still available...
11. Thanks for the comments guys. I will try to record something for the LB in due course, in the meantime....bump!
12. That's a bummer to the max Clarky. Take your time and I am sure something else will come along in due course.
13. I am sure at least one of the drivers in one of my cabs is on the fritz, but my ears are not good enough to determine which one, and I am not technically minded enough to sort it myself. Any suggestions who could do this in NE Hampshire/SW Surrey? I had thought of Steves Amps in Godalming? Cheers Gareth
14. Sold some strings to Sean. Pleasure to deal with and I'd be more than happy to deal with him again.
15. Be interesting to get OBBM in on this thread and he loves his amps both old and new school, and has recently bought the GK MB Fusion micro head that has three 12ax7s in it.
16. Remember the car ad that said "power is nothing without control"? Our version in this discussion might be "volume is nothing without weight"?!
17. The digital amp debate is an interesting one.... I used a Streamliner for a bit and really liked the tone, but like a fool I sold it Had a wonderful Demeter preamp/Crown power amp setup a while back that sounded just incredible. I sold the Crown as it was so heavy and replaced it with a Peavey IPR 1600 2u digital power amp, and that didn't sound half as good. But then I also had an Epifani Quest pre with a Peavey DPC1400X 1u digital power amp and that was lush beyond. Not sure what this tells us, apart from the fact that I change gear too much!!!!
18. Not mandolin, but tenor guitar, bouzouki and octave mando here! The Chordie webiste lets you convert their chord charts to mandolin shapes, so that's a real help.
19. I am too lazy to read the whole thread again.... Has anyone tried the 220? If so, what's the volume ouput like?
