1. Did I ask if this was a 4 ohm cab previously?
2. Ashdown have just added this to their Youtube feed.
3. WITHDRAWN
4. About a year ago I picked up a French bow from Yita Music on eBay, it's one of their superior AAA Ironwood models with black hair. Weight is around 135 gms. It is a touch end heavy, but not noticably so when bowing. I've hardly used it, as I decided to stick with German bows, so putting it on here to see if there's any interest. Pictures of actual bow to follow. Also selling a very nice case to keep it in. Made by Concord, it's a proper hard case and holds two bows and a pot of rosin. In mint condition as it's never even been out of the house. Shop image below. The bow and case cost me £140. I'd prefer to sell them both and am looking for £100 posted 1st class recorded. Cheers Gareth
5. That's really helpful, thanks!
6. Hi there The saddle height grub screws ones on my bass are too long and dig into my wrist, especially on the extra long ones used for the A and D strings. Rather than cut them down I'd like to replace them (that way I can restore the bass to stock as/when/if I sell it), but not sure what size they are. My guess is metric, M3, but anyone know for sure? Bass is a 1988/8 MIJ P bass. Cheers Gareth
7. Pretty sure that dowels and wood glue would do the job better than a filler.
8.
I contacted the fellas at Hipshot and they sent me a few photos of a JC bass with said bridge on it and explained how they put it on..
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but what did the guys @ Hipshot say you needed to do Hooky?
9. Well it's a great buy. Weight is 9lbs on the nose and balance is perfect. It just feels really solid and well put together. It's all original and the condition is excellent. Action was way too high for my taste when it arrives but now it's low and fast. Only thing I need to do is get some shorter grub screws for the saddles, as the originals are way too long and cut into my hand when using a pick. One happy bunny...
10. I asked a similar question last week. If you want to buy new, and don't need to have Fender on the headstock, then a lot of the Squiers are really good at the moment. In fact I just traded away a Squier Matt Freeman Signature P which was quite superb for the money. But don't forget used basses either. You'll get way more bang for your buck, and in fact I now have a late 80s MIJ P bass that is really doing it for me. So, bottom line, try loads and go for the one that floats your boat the most within budget.
11. Modern Zemaitis instruments, including a full range of basses, are available in the UK here (must be related to Ashdown somehow). All made in Japan I believe, and very expensive!
12. Traded a bass with Gavin. Excellent communication and a pleasure to deal with.
13. Gutted for you, but I am sure someone will love this. A week earlier and I'd have had it buthave just picked up a 88 MIJ P bass instead.
14. So my new P bass is awesome, apart from the fact that the sadddle height adjustment screws on the A and D strings are really long and cut into my hand when playing. The E and G string ones are shorter and therefore fine, so does anyone know where I can source four more of these? Cheers Gareth
15. Go Plonk!!!!
16.
Any suggestions?
I use my LB with either the LB212 or one or two ABM mini neo cabs (4x8, 1x15) depending on venue size. All combinations work really well and are plenty loud enough.
17. It's this one
18. The decision has been made. I've gone for a second hand MIJ bass from the late 80s.
19. This is all good stuff guys, although I'm not sure I'm any the wiser! I've fired a message off about the Classic 50s P, as it does indeed look like just the job. Also spotted a used Deluxe Active P that fits the bill, so asking for info on that too.
20.
Given the number of Precisions that come up here, for under the upper limit of your budget, why are you thinking about buying new? Could be you just want that "I'm the only person to own this" rush or are a registered business so can take advantage of offsetting VAT, but otherwise?
No qualms about buying used through BC at all, just not seen anything that grabs me at the moment. EDIT: Correction, may have just spotted one!
21.
The Mike Dirnt is missing from that list
Indeed it is. I forgot to mention that I play in a Jam/Weller tribute band, so ideally I'd like it to look like one of Foxton's basses.
22.
Does it have to say Fender on the head?
It doesn't have to no, but I would be quite picky about what else appears there! What are you thinking?
23. So, with a trade of my Squier Matt Freeman imminent I am looking to upgrade my P bass but am slightly bewildered by the choice! Any thoughts on what's good? Not looking to spend silly money, and if the quality of my Squier is anything to go by I don't need to anyway, but some pointers would be welcome. My choices, buying new, under £800, look like being: Standard P bass - £413 (with current rebate offer) Roger Waters P Bass - £583 50s P bass - £601 Deluxe Active P Bass Special - £647 American Special - £793 Any thoughts? Cheers Gareth
