2.
I love these little things, wish I could afford one. The question is, and apologies if it's been asked a million times before, can you gig with it? I don't do large venues at all, maybe one a year, mostly pubs and clubs. Would one of these cut it with a good efficient speaker cab? I'm insanely jealous guys
I gig mine all the time and it is plenty loud enough for pubs and clubs using the LB212 or my Mini Neo "stack"!
3. I'm in, with #27. Also have one of the original 4 ohm LB212 cabs (now replaced in the range by the 8 ohm VS212). I've replaced the JJ valves with NOS, ex-MOD, Mullards in the preamp (81s instead of 83s) and driver stages to tame the beast.
4. I do believe I'm free, so am keen to come along. Anything in my signature anyone fancies trying out?
5. Just to reiterate, these really are very good basses. Don't let the fact it's a Squier put you off, mine is a perfect weight and balance, absolutely sings, and is really well put together. At this price what's not to like?
6. Just concluded a very pleasant transaction with John. Excellent communication throughout, and very accommodating with timings and meeting up to do the deed! Buy or sell with confidence people!
7. Spectraflex, classic tweed braided style, bought in the Bass Centre about 1990 IIRC. The band call it "old faithful".
8. I wish it was my Veillette you wanted, as I'd trade for both of those in a flash! Suspect it isn't though....
9. If it worked fine before and after, I'd assume it was the quality of the supply from the shed via the extension leads, rather than the amp itself.
10. I'd love this as a part-trade for my Veillette 5 string, but I am sure that's a non-starter
11.
Just emailed Ashdown to see if there are any differences between the LB-212 and VS-212 apart from impedance, they confirmed they are the same The Little Bastard with a pair of VS-212 would make for a monster 4x12 vertical stack alright!
That would be wicked. I ended up with two Ashdown mini neos instead (4x8 and 1x15) for a bigger setup with greater power handling, but the LB sounds wicked through them too!
12.
Wasnt this £300
Yes it was, but I meant to amended the ad to include a heavy duty PJB speaker cable as well, so slight increase in price. Now corrected.
13. Bump. Would trade for a GB Streamliner 600, Ampeg PF350/500 or GK MB500.
14.
Hi, can anyone tell me what the neck profile is like on the Freeman please?
It's a not overly thin or thick "C" shape. Very comfortable.
15.
Interesting, is there any difference in perceived volume?
Not that I could tell, although I will give it a good workout at rehearsal tonight. I've yet to turn mine up past 9-10 o'clock, even at gigs, as that is plenty loud enough!
16. Sam is a pleasure to deal with, buy with confidence people!
17. I have one of these in black. Awesome awesome bass, and I don't use that word lightly.
18.
I've checked the valves in mine (JJ ECC83S x 2, JJ ECC82 x 1 and JJ EL84 x 4), and I'm going to experiment with some ECC81s instead of the 83s in the preamp stage, as per Voxpop's suggestion, soon.
I've now replaced the stock JJ ECC83s with two NOS Mullard ECC81s made for the MOD. They have made the amp perfect for me; totally clean on the high input, with just a hint of breakup from a passive bass if you really dig in using the low input.
19. Just concluded a deal with Sam for his Ashdown mini neo cabs. I would happily do business with him again, as he was great to deal with and even held the cabs for me while I sorted the readies. Top chap! Gareth
20. Wow! Trace GP12 band preamp but with tube power output. Heavy but awesome sound. Heavy but amazing price.
21.
I've been a proud owner of the prototype one (the one without serial numbers) since Nov 2010, and still love it to bits, never had a problem with volume issues, I either mike it up or go d.i. Best sounding amp I've ever had.
I don't have a Drophead, but I do have a UK LB30 and LB212 cab. It is plenty loud enough for the two bands I play in, and one of those is a Jam/Weller tribute band with a very keen drummer!
22. Was the Drophead the 30 watt version?
23. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I only ask as I have UK-made LB30 #27, and mine stays clean (and gets very loud) using the "high" input, regardless of whether I play an active or passive bass through it. The "low" input gets dirty almost instantly, so much so that I don't use that input at all. I've checked the valves in mine (JJ ECC83S x 2, JJ ECC82 x 1 and JJ EL84 x 4), and I'm going to experiment with some ECC81s instead of the 83s in the preamp stage, as per Voxpop's suggestion, soon. Cheers Gareth
24.
it's all transient WOT , this time next year they'll sack ya cos your Fenderless, get a Stagg till it all passes
Acually yes, on second thoughts, don't do it!
