1. Was the Drophead the 30 watt version?
2. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I only ask as I have UK-made LB30 #27, and mine stays clean (and gets very loud) using the "high" input, regardless of whether I play an active or passive bass through it. The "low" input gets dirty almost instantly, so much so that I don't use that input at all. I've checked the valves in mine (JJ ECC83S x 2, JJ ECC82 x 1 and JJ EL84 x 4), and I'm going to experiment with some ECC81s instead of the 83s in the preamp stage, as per Voxpop's suggestion, soon. Cheers Gareth
3.
it's all transient WOT , this time next year they'll sack ya cos your Fenderless, get a Stagg till it all passes
Acually yes, on second thoughts, don't do it!
4. Don't exclude the BSX Allegro, they are terrific.
5. This is now sold, pending the usual.
6. I think Who's Who is looking for Hydrive gear.
7. Block of dense foam cut to fit?
8.
I think you are being snobish calling a Squier P bass"el crappo" We cant all afford to throw several thousand on boutique basses.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, my new £399 Squier Matt Freeman P bass is one of the best playing, best sounding instruments I've ever owned... and that includes the 13 Wals that have been through my hands. Go figure.
9. Well it appears that the three knob layout was introduced in August 1961, so my bad there. If nothing else, the knobs are clearly not original.
10. I am no vintage Fender expert, but i) I thought '62s were all stack knobs, and ii) shouldn't the "offset contour body " transfer be on the ball of the headstock?
11. These are, quite simply, the business.
12. Price drop to £290 posted, and to note that the amp is covered in black tolex (not grey blue as someone asked).
13. I wish someone would buy my Veillette bass, PJB Cub combo or PJB 6B cab so that I could relieve d_b5 of this lovely amp
14.
These are great. Really.
+1
15.
I have to admit that Oly White with a tort guard on a J is a really nice combo as well (and it has the original tort guard already).
Well if I'd know you had the original tort guard then I'd have said Oly White J too
16. I agree with the above, apart from colour choice; I'd do Oly white for the P and Burgundy Mist for the J!
17. Blimey, also my first bass around 1979.
18. Fingers (and thumb) ever since I started playing some 30-odd years ago, at least until a few months ago that is, when I joined a Jam/Weller tribute band and had to get my pick-playing chops up to speed sharpish! It's actually been a good discipline to learn, much like bowing has improved my upright playing, and has made me appreciate it as another valuable string to the bass player's bow. Finding the right gauge pick for me was vital (0.8mm, since you ask). Cheers Gareth
19. I'd take the cab, if you are willing to split them?
