1. My PJB rig sounds very different to any other rig I've owned, but I really like it.
2.
you should avoid running flat out at 2 ohms in the summer months
When I asked Phil Jones he said that was referring to the hot and humid American summers and was unlikely to be an issue in the UK! I run my M-300 at 3 ohms for almost every gig and it has never missed a beat (touch wood)
3. You could have a lot of fun with these two. Dead easy to learn.
4. I had a Wal doubleneck (fretted and fretless 4s) that was a great bass, but it was VERY heavy. Obviously a 4/6 combination should be a bit lighter and balance better, but finding one will be tough! Gibson, Rickenbacker and Shergold used to make 4/6s and 4/12s many moons ago, but they've always been rare and demand top dollar as vintage instruments. You may find cheapish instruments on eBay, which may be fine for a first dabble to make sure it's the way you want to go. Then of course there's the silly money you could spend on the custom route... Good luck! Gareth
5. I wonder how much feedback influences the eBay teams when a dispute opens up? I have over 500 positive feedbacks and am rated 4.9 out of 5 for the accuracy of my item descriptions, so I hope they'd cut me some slack! Regarding the OP, I always put a few words to describe the case when selling an instrument on eBay. Usually phrasing the sentence "This bass also comes with..." to suggest that the bass is the main auction item and the case secondary. For example, the Ken Smith Burner I finally sold on here recently had a case that I described both here on BC and eBay as "worn but fully functional". I hope you get it sorted. Cheers Gareth
6.

This is cool as, even his hat is cool......
7. No longer made, but our Nissan Terrano has done a terrific job for us for a while now. I can fit two PA subs and all the gear in my sig in it no problem, plus it has had no trouble getting up and down the snowbound single track hill we live on!
8. A few pictures I took when I received the bass. I shall snap more in due course.
9.
And it was, the guy is trying it on.
Absolutely. Caveat emptor, as always, applies; if he wanted to know the condition of the case he should have asked.
10. Do we need more pictures? Sound clips perhaps?
11. I have Innovation Silver Slaps on my bass. They are nice, low tension and bow pretty well too. Not that expensive either.
12.
If Philw's fretless 4 string is anything to go by this must be some bass - I own 2 Veillettes from the 80s and can't speak highly enough about them - the modern stuff must have got better..Hope you get (something like) what this is worth..
Thanks for the post TheGreek. It's a great bass, and makes a fine stablemate to my Veillette Archtop (which I should add is almost certainly "the one"), but as I said in the OP I'm just not playing it and would rather release the funds. It's certainly going no lower than the £1800 I've now got it advertised at. Cheers Gareth
13.
and could be prized from my sweaty grasp if somebody wanted it....
!!!!!!!
14. As a relative newbie to upright, I put some temporary dots on the side of my BSX when I first got it. However, I removed them pretty quick as, quite frankly, they were offputting and I spent more time looking at them than listening to what I was playing.
15. Just picked up Toasted's Zoom H2 (thanks Joe) and I am amazed at how good it sounds. After downloading Reaper, I hooked it up to my PC and, after a couple of minutes setting levels and working out the basics of Reaper, recorded three tracks (one mandolin rythym track, one lead mandolin track, double bass) and finished my first tune! I think this will be really a really useful bit of kit, both for recording gigs and rehearsals, as well as more studio based stuff. Well chuffed! Gareth PS I would upload the tune, but unfortunately I deleted it by mistake!!!
16. Just bought a Zoom H2 from Joe. He posted it on the afternoon we agreed the deal, even though I couldn't get to the bank to pay him until that evening. Item was 100% as described. Definitely one of the good guys.
17. These are great cabs. I had two of the 1x12s from this era and they really were superb.
18.
if this one was fretless........ my god just a beauty
Defrets are not expensive
19. Putting up the set of 1/2 scale Spiro Weich plus a medium low B that came fitted to my BSX Allegro. They've seen better days, with some fraying of the silks and tape separation at the headstock end of the strings, but they tuned up okay when I put them on the BSX when it arrived (it had been shipped with the neck off) before I replaced them with Silver Slaps. They are about 60" total length, made up of 5.5" ball end silk, then 48" actual string, then 14-15" [A and D], 9" [E and G] and 8" [low B] of silk at the headstock end. Cheers Gareth NOW SOLD
20. UK dealer says it'll probably be £799 RRP.
21.
But how much ? I'm scared about the price...
Yes, that's the bottom line for me too. If it's a competitive price I am sure I'll buy one to replace the M-300, if not the M-300 will do just fine.
22.
Is this the same man as was selling his PJB a week ago?
Yes indeed! I have wanted the D600 ever since I first saw the protoype, so this is one change that will happen!
23. Gilles, when this arrives you can buy my M-300 (if you still want it)
24.
Gareth = I'm fairly torn between either a PJB or EA head. If the EA Doubler sounds as good as the PJ M300 head through my cab, I'd rather go for that as it's considerably lighter. I noticed in the Sale section of the forum that you almost sold your PJB rig to buy an EA rig... - Was this because of weight, or purely because of sound? If it was the sound, was it the EA head you prefered, or the EA cab? - Have you tried an EA head through your PJB cabs? If so, did it sound as good as your PJ head and which head did you try/consider?
Hi James Truth is I think both are great setups. I watched a video of my band playing last Saturday, where I used my full PJB rig, and it sounded amazing; the room was filled with wonderfully warm yet articulate bass, but without any boom. Haven't tried EA into PJB. I like the EA micro heads because they are small and powerful, but the M300 is more versatile. I have a felling the Doubler or Micro with a PJB cab would be the ideal solution... Does that help? Gareth
