1.
Me and a Gun-Tori Amos
Ouch, yes, forgot about that one
2. Call me a soppy old git, but I'd go for Bonnie Raitt's "I can't make you love me". My theatrical side also has a soft spot for "Come what may" from the movie Moulin Rouge.
3. Wow, that is lovely. About as far from your usual OBBM bass as you could get, but I bet it's ergonomically perfect to play.
4.
I hope the bass arrives safe and sound very soon Dave.
Absolutely!
5. I think that used to be mine, great bass if so! I recall a sub £1k price for purchase and sale.
6. Just to resurrect my original thread, I ended up buying two bows - one French and one German - to experiment. First of all, I got a German bow from Thomann, their self branded one. I followed this up with a French bow from Yita Music on eBay, a AAA Ironwood bow with black hair. I also picked up a very nice case from Thomann to keep them both in. When I started this thread I mentioned that I had been a cellist in my youth, so getting back into bowing has been quite exciting. German bow was new to me, but I have really enjoyed playing that style. The power and emotion you can get from bowing really is quite something... Anyway, I have been impressed by the quality of both bows. They're very well made, dead straight, are a reasonable weight (both around 135 gms), and draw really nicely. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this thread. Gareth
7. I have used both. Each bag is well put together with plenty of storage. Overall though, I'd say the Mono probably edges it a touch, but not much. However, where it matters, the Pro-Tec offers more protection as it has a rigid frame and panels to front and back. The Mono has a better neck support if the bass has an angled headstock, but as your Jazz doesn't it's not an issue. My vote: Pro-Tec Cheers Gareth
8. I could understand if it was still in Scotland, but I doubt there's much snow left in Crawley to delay delivery...
9. I have a Burner 6 for sale (see my sig below), but am not interested in trades I'm afraid.
10. And just where is this warehouse? Might be quicker to go and pick it up!
11.
Ronnie Lane
There really is a Ronnie Lane, named after the great man himself, in Stratford, E12.
12. Is it possible to use multiple instruments with the Line 6 systems? If so, how much are the extra transmitters? I could see the guitarist in my band benefitting from this system, given that he typically has three guitars, a mandolin and a banjo at each gig!
13.

I gigged Winter Song on my BSX upright at the weekend. What a great tune, and bassline! For years I used nickel rounds playing fretless, but my Veillette Archtop fretless came wearing LaBella black tapewound flats and they sound amazing; plenty of "mwah", easy on the fingers and the board. Well worth trying. Cheers Gareth
14. I love these Bolin basses. My Veillettes have a similar vibe...
15. I tried stock strings, Helicore Hybrids and Innovation Silver Slaps on the Aria EUB I had, and the low tension, gut-like qualities of the Silver Slaps were the best choice by some way, both in terms of feel but also in the sound that was produced. I've since upgraded to a BSX Allegro EUB, which is a much more hybrid instrument as it has a proper hollow body. I'm still using Silver Slaps on it and, for me, the sound is just divine. Just my 2p's worth...
16. Evening all I've decided to see if there's any interest in my Veillette Paris fretted 5. This is a stunning bass which hasn't even been out of the house since I received it! The spec: Two piece poplar body with a radius top finished in a light tobacco burst Maple neck Pau Ferro fingerboard Two Citron humbucking pickups Aguilar OBP2 18v active preamp (volume, balance, passive treble and active bass) Gotoh lightweight tuners Hipshot "monorail"-style individual bridges Weight is a shade over 10lbs, and it balances perfectly. Needless to say, it sounds wonderful, with a big fat tone that would be best suited for rock, blues or a soul kind of vibe. Played with a pick it's really slicing, and the tonal difference between the pickups is huge, so you can go from a P bass to a J to anything in between. So why am I selling it? Well, I've been playing more and more fretless over the last few years, so much so that I don't see any point in having a large sum of money tied up in something I just don't play; my Veillette Archtop fretless is all I need. New, I think would be some way over £2k now, but I am looking for £1850 posted in the UK, and will ship it in a new Protec Contego case. If you live in the SE you are welcome to come and try it out, either at my home in NE Hampshire or at work in Central London. Cheers Gareth
17. a "lots of interest but no one's bought it yet" bump...
