Well, I haven't noticed any real loss in response, but to be honest I am quite a smooth player as I am only playing fretless and upright at the mo, so no slapping for example. I'll give my amp a more "dynamic" workout tonight and report back!
Okay, played at a beer festival last night for about 600 people. Amp worked very well - one 8 ohm cab per side - and it was very loud as already noted. At the soundcheck I deliberately gave the amp a hard workout and was really pleased with how it responded.

 3. How would you describe the tone from this combo? Is it very modern? Also do TecAmp make an extension cab that is a perfect fit to put under this bad boy? Cheers Gareth
 4. great bass, great guy selling it
 5. Gwilym had one but I think he sold it. Might be worth dropping him a line.
 6. The BSRJ was Ken's first attempt at a less bling and J bass version of his US-made basses. They are very well made, as are all of Ken's US basses, have a good core tone and maintain the Smith reputation. They don't sound like his basses that have the soapbars in them, but you wouldn't expect them too. As to a price, personally, given their bolt on nature and simpler woods etc, I would say something less than £2k tops for a mint condition one. Hope that helps Gareth
 7. I'm using one. It's very light and has the potential to go very very loud. Seems to be usual PV reliability so far.
 8. I bought one of these excellent flight cases in March to rack my Demeter power amp and Crown preamp. However, I've since sold the Crown and the Peavey reaplcement is much shallower, so I'd like to get a 3u shallow case instead. The flight case is pretty much mint, used at one gig and a couple of rehearsals. Specs:

Thon Rack 4U Economy
7 mm plywood panels
aluminum edging
2 spring grips
4 rubber feet
rackstrip on front only
40cm deep
dimensions: 535 x 225 x 505 mm
weight: 7.6 kg
SOLD Cheers Gareth
 9.
OTPJ is right. The mid-late 80s had flipped the logo sizes around by that stage, these are early JV
Yes, thinking about it my mate's P was bought new 85ish and is definitely an early JV.
 10. I believe the much vaunted original series Squier basses from the mid to late 80s had this. Really good basses.
 11.
Is this feasible as a one hand lift? Could you take it on the tube easily?
If you haven't already looked, the spec is 43lb (19.5kg) and measure 13.8" wide x 17.9" deep x 17.5" tall.
 12. Great basses and a very good price.
 13. Dimensions and weight please, and where are you located?
 14.
Yes, it's really good. I've played this bass and the midi system is one of the best I've used
Do it Joe, you know you want to!
 15.
Keith's a great guy and has an incredible collection of basses. Deal in confidence
Amen to that.
 16. Quick update. Used the amp at rehearsal last night - single channel into one Euphonic Audio CXL112 - and it was plenty loud enough. Tone is big and clean. Everyone loved the lights
 17.
Doesn't look very 1U to me.
Indeed no Dave, it isn't As I said in the original post, the main criteria was a light and shallow amp; 1u was simply because I like the look of them. Fickle I know....
 18.
I think, in the light of the responses read above - you made the right choice! - Tombboy sold me one of his Peavey power amps recently and have to say, I'm really impressed with it's capable output and fuctionality. I will probably use it as a spare now, as my Hartke rig has now arrived - but yeah, good on ya!
Thanks Dan. Yes, I must say I've used a lot of Peavey heads over the year, mainly for PA but a couple of DPC1400Xs for bass rigs as well, and they've always been really reliable workhorses. My main requirement was something light, and at 7lbs this is perfect. Happy days!
 19.
Think there are plenty of variations on the theme though, might not be too consistent, some have a bridge specific output, some are binding post only for bridging, some have internal switching that uses a normal output.
Absolutely. For those of a technical nature, this cable is wired 1+/2+ on a speakon cable.
 20.
Excuse my ignorance mate. What is the difference between a normal power amp/bass head compared to a bridged power amp?
If your stereo power amp has a facility to bridge, and not all do, you are effectively combining the power output from each channel and making the amp mono. This requires a speaker cable specially wired for the job.
 21. I had one of those and it was great; the eq is really powerful. I chopped mine in px for a Trace combo at the Bass Centre around that time, so this may even be my old bass?!
