  1. As above. Does anyone make a pedal power supply like the Boss PSA-230 that has a very long cable? The Boss is only 2m long, which means extension leads on the stage....
  2. Hello Dave It's a Sire P8. Absolutely top notch bass! I swapped out the pearl white scratchplate for a tort one and added a tug bar for old school vibes. Also put Hipshot tuners on it.
  3. Alton Beer Festival, 2-300 people enjoying some lovely real ales. Nice vibe with lots of people singing along but only a handful dancing. New songs went down very well; REM's "The One I Love" and Travis' "Why does it always rain on me". Good run for my still relatively new Boss Katana 500, which sounded glorious and was proper loud. Cab is my FMC 1210UL from Germany. Basses are a Sire P8 and my trusty Franz Bassguitars Sirius DC.
  4. The new La Bella Super Polished strings are really good. Only £40 for a 5 string set at Bass Direct too, which is a good price these days.
  5. Yes they were based in Treorchy and went out of business a while back. The only part of the business that went to the US was the Innovation string range for uprights, which was bought by GHS in 2019 a year after they became the US distributor.
  6. Oddly enough I have just started buying and selling bits and bobs on eBay after a long break and, so far, all the transactions have been super smooth. In fact, I am up to around 1000 transactions in total and have never had an issue. I guess I've just been lucky...
  7. Thing is I love the PJ setup... and the roasted maple neck with blocks...
  8. Yes I spotted that. Personally I wouldn't get the cab as it's rear ported, which I never like for live work. The amp is clearly a good deal though....
  9. I'm a few months in with this amp now and I must say I really like it. It's incredibly versatile. For live work I've settled on a core tone and three main effects in addition to the drive, which are chorus, octaver and auto-wah. At first I switched between them using bluetooth, but now I just have them marked on the setlist so switch between songs. It's plenty loud enough through my FMC 4 ohm 1x10+1x12 cab that's rated at 600 watts. I feel like I've hardly touched the surface of what it can do, but it's a fun ride so far!
  10. I loved the look of this Sire when I saw it in an Andertons video. I emailed them to ask if it was an actual model, but apparently it was custom made for Lee and will not be repeated.
  11. I put Gotoh GB-528 on my P8 and they are a perfect fit. I did crack the lacquer on the front of the headstock when removing one of the bushings, so do be careful when removing them. The best way is to find something that fits the hole really well so you can apply even pressure, and tap that gently from the back side of the headstock. This is what they look like fitted. I've improved how the unused holes look since this was taken. And the front. You can just see the remnants of the crack near the B string tuner (picture taken after I repaired it).
  12. At my playing peak I was averaging around 100 a year. Nowadays it's more like one a month, which suits me fine. I'd take quality over quantity any day now.

    Pairs

My Franz basses, both Sirius model but one double and one single cut.
  14. These strings are growing on me. They have such a good fundamental tone.
  15. Very happy to provide Ross with his first feedback on Basschat! Although I only sold him a set of strings, comms were perfect and payment prompt. What more could you ask for?
  16. Tried them at rehearsal last night, and first impressions are as follows: Quite dark sounding I revise my tension estimate to medium high. They are higher output than my usual nickel rounds, noticeably louder and fuller at the same EQ settings I usually use Good presence in the mix They lost the sticky grippiness pretty quickly I wasn't blown away, but they are perfectly decent.
  17. Newtone make lovely strings! I'll give them time to settle and I need to gig them, but I'm not blown away by them yet. If I had to choose I'd go with GHS Pressurewounds over these.
  18. I've just popped a 5 string set on one of my basses. First impressions: They don't feel as thick as you'd expect for such a heavy gauge. They are medium tension. They roll slightly under the finger. They sound great - really punchy and defined. They have a sticky feel to them, which I hope will go once they are played in a bit. They feel more like groundwounds than pressurewounds, with a slight grab to the finger when you slide. Again, that might be more the stickiness than the string construction. The headstock silks are a purple and cream swirl mix, coated in a wax finish to stop them fraying. No silks at the ball end.
  19. Both sets have had very light use and all silks are in good condition. GHS Pressurewounds lovely groundwound strings, super smooth and quiet .044, .062, .084, .106, .128 cut for a 3 over 2 headstock. £30 posted in the UK La Bella White Nylons this is the heavier gauge set,but they have the tension of a typical 45-105/130 set .060 / .070 / .094 / .115 / .135 tapered cut for a 4 over 1 headstock £35 posted in the UK
  20. For a short time, before I ship it off as a commission sale, £675 collected!
