  1. Is anyone else having problems with consistent string links from La Bella? White nylon flats have been my go to string on my fretless for years, but lately I’ve noticed there’s a huge variation in how long they can be. I use the extra long strings, which are (should be) 38” ball end to silk, but this latest set are some way short of that!
  2. Hello John, welcome! There are a few of us from Hampshire here, I'm up in the NE of the county. Cheers Gareth
  3. I spent a year on exchange at the University of Wisconsin and remember thinking it was really warm outside when it barely got back up to zero during the spring thaw! Oh, and to stay on topic I keep speaker cabs in my garage but nothing more than that.
  4. Agree, I got some of these recently and they are really decent.
  5. I had this many moons ago. It was pretty damn amazing!
  6. Not in opinion no. Both my cabs have downfiring ports and have sounded great in every location I've used them.
  7. Haha, sorry! Probably humbucking mostly, but on my fretted Franz (which has two Delano HBCs and the same switch for each pickup) I usually have the bridge in series and just switch the neck to taste.
  8. My Franz Sirius fretless bass has this exact setup and I love the instant change of tone three way switching brings. I say go for it!
  9. And sure enough, it was A weighted.
  10. Thanks Bill, I will seek to find out!
  11. It’s 600 watts, 65.5 x 41.5 x 41 cm.
  12. Just fine. We had a decibel meter at rehearsal last night and we topped out at around 100dB. The single 112 sounded full and fat, no boxiness or crapping out, and that was with the Demeter running at 250 watts on the 8 ohm load. I highly recommend the 1210UL as a single cab solution for gigs. Absolutely monster tones from a 14kg cab.
  13. I have one without the tweeter. It's a great cab.
  14. Wal Mk III fretted 5, beech facings and LEDs Wal Mk III fretless 5, walnut facings and LEDs Ken Smith fretted BMT5, quilt maple facings Other than that, nothing really.
  15. Every Wal I've owned, and there have been a few 😐
  16. Multiscale is great. It makes a noticeable difference to 5 and 6 string bass. So it's a "Yes" from me. That said, I am quite happy playing "normally" fretted basses too. of course.
  17. These are a mash up from a brand new black set and the satin chrome set off my Cort. They're 3/8" post size and 3 over 2 for a RH bass, or 2 over 3 for a leftie! New tuners are around £17-1£18 each, so these are a decent saving on new. £60 posted in the UK
  18. It goes up in half inch increments from 34" on the G to 36" on the B.
  19. This particular model is discontinued now. I didn't pay anywhere near retail for mine so was comfortable making the upgrades. Don't get me wrong, the bass plays well as stock, but I used it as a project.
  20. A while back I bought a Cort SCMS (single cut multi scale) bass. I know single cuts are a bit marmite to the BC massive, but I've never had an issue with them. I've fancied trying a multi scale bass for a while, and with my band playing a lot of songs tuned down a tone, it seemed a good, fairly cost-effective vehicle to use for this purpose. Out of the box, the bass played really well with a super low action, great fret finishing, even string tension, and tremendous articulation across the board. At 8.5lbs it was nice and light too. Balance was good. What didn't I like? A few minor things: i) the preamp was hissy and looked a real mess inside (this photo isn't my bass, but it's the same preamp and finish quality) ii) the pickups lacked any real character iii) the nut was sharp on the edges, which made the bass uncomfortable to play in first position iv) the small top horn meant the bass sat in a different position to that which I'm used to - the neck felt like more of a reach away - so the lack of strap locks meant I was concerned the bass would fall off the button v) one of the screws holding the E string bridge in place had obviously sheared off at some point, so the unit was not flush to the body, and the screws in general were pretty poor As I am an eternal fettler, I decided to do a few changes as follows: i) rounded the edges of the nut so they are smooth ii) replaced all the screws in the bridge units iii) removed preamp and pickups and fully shielded the cavities, also adding a new earth strip under the bridge iv) installed threaded inserts in the pickup and control cavities, using new threaded bolts to replace the poor quality original screws v) fitted a new US Bartolini 3 band preamp (volume wih push/pull active/passive) vi) fitted new US Bartolini MK6CBC pickups. I used the six string versions to ensure the pickup sensing area was wide enough due to the angled pickups vii) new black Dunlop straplocks, and new black knobs. I may change all the hardware over to black at some point, or perhaps go for a Wal-like black/chrome mix I am really pleased with the changes. They have made what was a good core bass even better.
