  1. I love my new Ashdown Tonepocket, but I've noticed tonight that there's an earthing issue if I use it when it's plugged in and charging. If I touch the metal knobs or the bridge on my bass I can hear the classic buzz, but if I use it unplugged for the PSU so it's just running on the battery it's whisper quiet. Anyone got any ideas what's up? Dodgy PSU?
  2. Really? You must play in some loud bands!
  3. Just fitted a brand new white nylon B string that came in another set this morning. Straight swap over and it is perfect.
  4. Fretless Precision. You can see it at 29:34 here
  5. Thanks for these comments guys. I have used these strings on the bass for four years, so my action and playing style is perfectly adjusted to them. The bass is a through body, so I never twist the string around the tuning post when tuning up; just bend it into the tuner and then wind without any wrapping around the tuner by hand. You can hear it through the amp. It doesn't sound quite the same as it does acoustically, but it certainly doesn't sound right.
  6. Just popped a fresh set of La Bella white nylons on my fretless and the low B has something very funky going on. I’ve taken it off and restrung it three times and the weird rattling noise is still there. I popped the B from the old set back on and that’s fine. Bass Direct (who i bought the strings from) kindly sent my video to La Bella, and they said my action is too low which of course is rubbish as the old B plays fine. Pretty poor response from La Bella if I’m honest... Weird. IMG_0393.MOV
  7. Oh dear. Can he send you any evidence that it was shipped? He must have an email or a printout of the label he used?
  8. That looks awesome!
  9. SOLD These strings have less than an hour of playing time on them. They're nice and have a good tension, I just prefer the tone of nylon flats. 45/65/80/100/132 Cut for three over two headstock Strings are 38" long from ball end to silk Cheapest I can find new is £53, so I think £35 posted is fair.
  10. Hello all Anyone have any experience of these strings? If so, how smooth are they, and what's the tension like? Thanks Gareth
  11. Sold a set of strings to @MikanHannille. A very simple, straightforward transaction, only marred by the week it took Royal Mail to deliver them! Would happily deal with him again.
  12. Wow. Clearly the courier's fault but Andertons will need to sort it.
  13. I had a beautiful, all original (photo shows an East EQ, but I put the originl back in soon after) 1970 fretless Precision for a while. Why on earth I sold it I'll never know I liked it so much I had Sandberg make me a fretted "hardcore aged" VT5 to go with it. Sold that too....
  14. Mine works perfectly. If you like it, just send it back and get a replacement. @Ashdown Engineering are probably running on reduced staffing due to Covid, as their service reputation is top notch.
  15. I know a couple of German guys who have been doing these gigs. They said they were pretty hesitant at first, but now they're actually quite enjoy the experience. Could be thy're just gald to get out and play, of course....
  16. I think you should figure to add 20-25% to the shipped price you pay, to account for import duty and VAT.
  17. One set of very lightly used La Bella White Nylons. Standard gauge: 60/70/94/115/134 (sounds very heavy, but they are actually low tension) Extra Long: 38" from ball to silk Silks are hardly worn, and the strings have less than an hour playing time. A new set is £52 plus postage from Bass Direct, so this is a good price on nearly new strings.
  18. Latest lockdown treat - Ashdown Tone Pocket headphone amp!

One is to charge it with the supplied 10v power supply, the other is for an optional power supply such as an in-car charger. It also charges via USB

I love mine but I also have problems with the rechargeable battery. I only get around 45mins. Seems like it only needs about 20mins to charge before the green light goes out. Tried both 10v and usb.

re your question about charging, the green light goes out after 30 mins or so. This is a fast charge only and  will give you the 45mins or so that you are getting. A full charge with the charger takes about 10 hours according to Ashdown. Hope that helps.

  19. Where in E Sussex are you?
  20. How did you get on @stewblack?
  21. Sold a set of strings to Julian in one of the most relaxed transactions ever. Absolutely first class throughout the process, and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
  22. Quick checks: Take the offending string off and reinstall it. Try a piece of paper under the nut (although I have played plenty of fretless basses that have the nut flush to the fingerboard and are fine) Raise the saddle height to see if you can get it to play clean. It may only need a very small lift to clean it up. Check the fingerboard is smooth under the string (i.e. no string marks, nicks, slight bumps etc.) How straight is the neck? I find a very small amount of relief (say .25mm at the 9th fret when you press down at the first and last "fret") is enough to let the strings breathe. Good luck!
