1.
I'd be interested to know how much the fretless conversion cost.
£200 + VAT
2. Thanks for the comments guys. One other thing I meant to say is that the price Brook quoted was the most competitive I received, so if anyone is considering a fingerboard conversion I really can't recommend them highly enough.
3. Some of you may recall that I bought a 2012 American Special a while back that I absolutely love. Two piece alder body, maple capped board, 8.5lbs, it's just the most wonderful bass. Anyway, I was browsing Gumtree a while back and spotted another one for a very good price, so I decided to buy it for converting to fretless. The basses have serial numbers just eight numbers apart! I sent the neck away to the guys at Brook Guitars down in Devon (they made me an acoustic a few years back and their work is just superb, so I was confident they would do it right) and in less than a week they did the most amazing job of converting the neck to an unlined fretless ebony board. They even managed to keep the original nut. It plays beautifully, and the unlined board is a dream - it's quite thick (7mm deep at the centre, 5mm at the sides), so the sustain is amazing. I've added a black scratchplate, tugbar, and upgraded to Hisphot tuners. Very happy camper.
4. Awesome cabs. I predict this will be gone by the end of the day.
5. Brilliant bit of kit, super simple to use but so useful if you play more than one bass at a gig. Plus Nick is a great guy to deal with, so a win win situation:)
6. I ordered a VT5 (that's a PJ to you and me), fretted, sunburst, hard core aged. I specified my preferred weight and balance and they nailed that too. Order went as smooth as you like and was about 3 months to make IIRC.
7. Sold a set of flats to Pete. Deal was as smooth as the strings themselves (see what I did there). A pleasure to deal with, and a credit to BC
8. I my Fender Precisions....
9. I sold a set of tuners to Tom. Sale went through smooth as and he was a pleasure to deal with
10. I have [s]eight[/s] four of these tuners, all removed from American Special basses. I believe they are the same of the ones fitted to the Mexican Standard series, but am not 100% sure on that. [s]This sale is for the tuners and screws only. I am not selling any bushings.[/s] Sale is for complete sets (Fender tuners and screws, Hipshot HB7 bushings). To buy eight new would cost £50, so I am selling at £30 for 8, £16 for 4, or a fiver each. Postage is extra. Thanks Gareth
11. I'm not a fan of Geezer Butler by any means, but I have heard good things about this pickup and was wondering who on BC has tried one, and what they thought of it?
12. Sorry, deleted first post somehow! I think eBay is your best bet.
13.
Sorry to derail the thread, but I have been trying to find someone with one of these in the uk. Did you have to pay and duty or anything extra to get it from the US? also do you remember which store you bought it from? Oh also do you need anything special to convert current? Many thanks.
It came from the US branch of Chuya Online via eBay, and I bought a PSU off eBay for a tenner. You would normally pay duty and VAT on import.
14. Bought for an aborted neck project. Brand new and never fitted. Clover leaf style tuner. Four in a row for a right hand bass. Tuner post is 1/2"(13mm) and fits 11/16"(18mm) peghead holes. Includes screw-in bushing, face washer, and mounting screw. Really excellent quality and much cheaper than the US versions. 57g each. Please note that, unlike the US versions, these are not reversible. A firm £40 posted, or £37 collected from Central London or NE Hampshire.
15. I have a Providence Dual Bass Station, which I run with two basses, and it is a terrific piece of kit. It's 24 volt operation, so there's tons of headroom, 3 band eq with sweepable mids, mute, and tuner out. I much prefer it to the Tonebone I used to have, which I felt always sucked some tone out of the bass. They are £300 in the UK, but I lucked into a new one from the US for £150 via eBay
16. I have noticed this is happening on one of my P basses. The front of the stock bridge lifts up as I tighten the screws. I have checked the surface of the bass body, and the baseplate, and both are flat, so I am hoping string pressure will put it flat again when I fit the new neck on.
17.
I'll take them wal, will pm you.
And sold to Matt
