1. A "decided to move back to 5 strings" bump
2. Hello all £625 I've decided to move back to 5 strings, so this wonderful honeyburst American Special is up for sale. The standard spec is as follows: Body Material: Two-piece alder Body Finish: Hand rubbed stain with a satin nitro lacquer top coat Neck: Maple, Slim "C" Shape Neck Finish: Satin Urethane Fretboard Radius: 9.5" (24.1 cm) Scale Length: 34" (86.36 cm) Nut Width: 1.625" (41.3 mm) String Nut: Synthetic Bone Pickup: American Standard Precision Bass® Alnico Split Single-Coil Bridge: Standard Vintage 4 Saddle Bass Pickguard: 3-Ply Parchment I sent the neck away to the guys at Brook Guitars down in Devon and they did the most amazing job of converting the neck to an unlined fretless ebony board. They even managed to keep the original nut! It plays beautifully, and the unlined board is a dream - it's quite thick (7mm deep at the centre, 5mm at the sides), so the sustain is amazing. I've added a genuine Fender black scratchplate and tugbar, and upgraded to Hisphot tuners. Weight is 8.5lbs, balance is perfect. The bass has some bumps and scrapes to the body, but nothing major. Due to the upgrades, I am asking £625 firm for this beauty, including a very nice basic gig, collected from NE Hampshire. Happy to post at your expense (about £15). I'd be happy to trade for a 5 string ACG fretted in Krell or Recurve body shape.
3.
Yes it must have given a pretty unique tone based on where it sits... not quite as burpy but with more fundamental than a solo'd bridge pup I would imagine? Isn't that where the pick up was on the pro1 and pro1e?
Pro 1 pickups were a lot more "P" position than that bass. I think your description of the tone is a good one though.
4.
Have you played one with the pickup in that position?
I have, as that bass was mine! It actually sounded really good, and ergonomically was very comfortable to play, but I can't for the life of me remember how the control knobs were configured, given it was a 1 pickup bass !!! I sold it to a guy in Italy. Never seen another like it. Cheers Gareth PS Trev, belated welcome to Basschat!
5.
I like singlecuts, but the Ken Smith is 'meh'
+1 I'm afraid, and I like Smith basses a lot
6. Wow, wow, wow and wow I shouldn't ask how heavy the 78 is, but I will....
7. How does this compare to the Tonehammer? Is it super crisp and clean?
8. Does it have a case? What's the weight and balance like?
9.
Are you getting another 100 or something else?
Just a humble CTM30 Mert, but I've always loved the Drophead and would have pushed the boat out a bit more for it!
10. If I hadn't ordered a CTM from Ashdown a few weeks back I would have bought this when it first appeared
11. I bought a speaker lead from John. He emailed me a picture to check it was what I wanted (it was) and it arrived the day after I paid for it. Excellent
12. I've always wanted one of these, but sadly I have no spare cash at the moment How wide is the head, as a matter of interest?
13.
I used the 15PL and the Mini 8 +L at the last gig. Tolex covered as opposed to an Epoxy paint. Light with bite!
That's a very stealthy looking rig Brian!
14. The TKS cabs have been a revelation to me. No need to be concerned about the lack of tweeter as there's plenty of top end there.
15. I sold some strings to Mike. A pleasure to deal with all through the process.

GILLY

I bought Will's Tonehammer 500 and the transaction was as smooth as a flatwound string. Great comms, A1 packaging - perfect. Deal with confidence.
17. I sold an amp to John. He was a pleasure to deal with and I would happily transact with him again.
18. Indonesia now, final assembly still in the US though.
19. I have a number of vintage valves for sale. They are all in working order as I have used them on a regular basis. Serial numbers/dates will follow. Mullard CV4004/M8137 £75.00 The daddy. It’s been my go to preamp valve. This is an MOD version of the M8137, which itself was a “special quality” version of the EC883/12AX7. It has both standard Mullard and MOD markings on it. Original box. Used. Looks like this (not my image) GE ECC83/12AX7 £24.00 A JAN (Joint Army Navy) “ruggedized” version of the General Electric 12AX7, specially made for the US military. Used. GE ECC81/12AT7 £14.00 Again, JAN (Joint Army Navy) “ruggedized” version of the General Electric 12AT7, specially made for the US military. Original box. NOS. Collection from NE Hampshire. Happy to discount if you buy more than one. Happy to post, with prices confirmed according to number of valves bought. All items will be sent Recorded Delivery. Thanks for looking. Gareth
