1.
an actual basschatter(me) having a go at vocal Feedback/mickey taking quite welcome.
That's some great ventriloquism skills on display!! Well, you did say Very nicely done.
 2. Totally subjective. I'll stick my neck out and say in trying to copy the parts so accurately you could be killing the musicality. Try playing around with them, making your own lines up, adding a few little nuances. I know I'll be shot down by the perfectionists, and there is a valid argument that the original versions will have the musicality of the original (possibly one of the greats) player, but to me it is all in the feel, so it needs to be your feel, not someone else's. Oh, and playing with a light touch is fine. I dig in like crazy - wish I could do otherwise!
 3. Drop Thornybank on here a PM - He used to buy and sell lots of TE gear, and is great to deal with.
 4.
No idea what this makes: Custom Fenderman bass guitar Custom built by Geoff Banks who was the guitar tech for bands such as AC/DC and Genesis.
There was a thread on here not so long ago to an auction of Geoff's guitars and basses. Right old hotch-potch if I recall correctly.
 5. Stunning, and a nice looking headstock! No excuse for not having Wal gas now
 6.
What a weird poll. Surely 'Wedding/Corporate' is a type of gig, not a type of music?.
Likewise Party, Acoustic, and possibly Tribute. Interesting poll, but flawed.
 7.
And they were the assumptions I made, "most people won't even know what a barefaced cab is, let alone steal it". I had removed the basses and heads as they are more portable/valuable.

Bastards! Good luck to you...there but for the grace of god go most of us.
Yep, often leave the cabs in the boot, thinking they are too bulky and cumbersome to bother nicking. Even at Barefaced weight that's quite a shocker. Reckon the thieves might have known they were valuable?
 8. Spotted a wanted ad from Rob. Pinged him an email and deal was done straight away, with an immediate Paypal payment. Happy to recommend.
 9.
Hi Mykesbass, Looks great. Is it a question of sound the reason to look for something else? Would you consider a trade for an Ashdown 1x15 combo hardly used? Let me know. Blessings Duncan Odgers
Thanks Duncan, but by PM the amp is now on hold, with a trade pending.
 10.
Just out of interest, which Carvin do you have?
BX500. According to Molan who worked at Bass Gear where I bought mine, there were some major reliability issues, but if you got a good one, like I fortunately did, they are amazing.
 11.
When you say "class D", do you just mean light weight?
Seems to be so little solid state on the market now, but no, not looking for lightweight, and will edit now. Was perfectly happy carrying the Traynor (only 20.8kg).
 12.
FYI - Your photos have kicked the bucket (blame PhotoBucket's change in terms!)
Yes, saw that. Will transfer to Flickr. Thanks!
 13. Always wanted to try one of these, so took a big gamble and bought this one in a not working condition from Paul (P_O_W), and got Mike Still in West Sussex to get it back to perfect working order. Only problem is...I don't really like it that much It has a huge sound, and funny, at lower volumes I love it, but much prefer my Carvin at full gig volume. I'd much prefer a trade to a straight sale - nice non-valve of similar second hand value, cheap double bass, or try me with anything of interest (done some great "unusual" trades on here in the past). Hope the link works now that Photobucket have decided to play hardball! https://www.flickr.c...2544@N08/z06XaQ
 14.
I've always said that people who have to read music to play have no musical soul. A bass guy, keyboard or guitard who've learnt 300 or more toons in their lifetime and can rattle them off with the odd little inaudible mistake, then play an improv solo from somewhere inside their heart - THAT'S a musician. I've seen guys on cruise ships backing mini stars that have to read to play and actually sound great and spot on, but I often wonder if they could really hold their own in a jam situation.
What complete and utter tosh
 15.
That's what I thought. Aside from making the musical transition. There's a huge environmental change. We playing traditional Irish/ Celtic folk music, which is a passion we all share. I'm thinking it's such different worlds.
Then I would say let them read. If you and the singer know your parts then all should be good. I can't see this as being like the rock bands with music stands debate personally.
 16. What do the orchestral players play? Why can't they read (for the time being)?
 17. Guilty pleasure time...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nooeMrCws-A
 18.
I learned to love my ER15's.
Thanks Chris. From this, can I take it you got used to the lower volume? It is feeling a little alien right now.
 19. Recently decided it was time to get some moulded plugs - tiny bit of tinnitus, and disappointed with the non moulded pair I have been using. I've now gigged twice, rehearsed three or four times, and been to a big gig wearing them and they are incredible. Nothing is lost (well, I'll come back to that in a second) really excellent full range reduction of volume. Exactly what they are supposed to do. The gig I went to (Kraftwerk at the Brighton Dome) the sound was exceptional. Now the but... they seem to rob a lot of the energy from our performance. I've never been one to equate volume with energy - I've always given Elvis' That's Alright Mama as the perfect exmple of something not needing to be loud or fast to be energetic, but this has been a bit of an issue for me. I'm using -18db. The -10db don't meet certain regulations so are not recommended by the audiologist or manufacturer, but we are not a massively noisy band. Has anyone on here used this type with the lower rated filter, and what's the result? Thanks, Mike
 20.
One thing I noticed is that this is a path that is hardly unique. Gary Moore went from rock to blues.
Gary Moore's journey was nowhere near that straightforward - he was playing Jazz (or at least Jazz-Rock) early on in his career.
 21. Wouldn't that be to stop your arm from dampening the resonant quality of the soundboard? edit - or is that what you meant by muting, as I guess it could be?
 22.
Make sure it's right. My son works in Japan and obviously speaks Japanese. There's a trend for Western free spirits to have 'Free' tatoo'ed in Japanese. Unfortunately the tattooists aren't fluent and have branded them free, as in cheap/good value. The Japanese are of course too polite to comment, but have some fun at our expense.
Luckily, Ambient comes across as a good guy. Can't see him scoring out Agadoo as a cruel joke!!
 23. Had a Marshall MB 410 combo go up in smoke at a jam night in Saxmundham. Probably the most exciting thing that had happened there that year In my record company days, I was at a Nazareth gig that we were filming - Garage, Glasgow I think. Someone had decided they didn't need to bother unreeling all the cable for the lights. Had to move all the audience away and the director had to choose some careful camera angles until it had been extinguished. Band didn't miss a beat!
