Metal and classical together - any thoughts

Jon Lord made a pretty decent job of it. -
Fantastic. Made during or around the sessions for BB King In London https://open.spotify...pxBhcjciskqKCgv Note Pete Winfield on piano
And Barry Ford on Drums who I saw as a reggae artist at Ken Livingstone's "It's Only Rock & Royal" at the Crystal Palace Bowl on Charles & Diana's wedding day!!

Thanks everyone for some really constructive feedback.
I presume your covers were hits or at least very well known songs? Audiences don't care who wrote the song. All they want is a song they can like. Don't lose your objectivity. If you've written a dull song make it better or don't play it.
Not all of them, and we've certainly gone out of our way to choose songs that don't get done to death (although there are a couple of those just for balance).
In my experience you definitely need a very charismatic lead vocalist/front line to carry your audience thru unfamiliar material, however good it is - just playing it well isn't enough.
Yes, as a band we get good feedback for being entertaining. Nothing over the top, we just obviously enjoy ourselves, and put a solid, professional show on. As with my response to Chris, the songs we already do are not all really well known ones.
We did it really successfully some years back with a Levellers type band, ....I still get a buzz now remembering doing a gig and realising the crowd were singing back our songs not just the well known covers!
Sounds really great - something to aim for (oh, and if I was playing that sort of material I might even manage to get my wife to come along and listen)

We're starting to write our own material - Blues and Southern Rock influenced. At the moment it will be a case of dropping a few in among more well known repertoire at our pub gigs, but hope to move towards doing more of our own stuff. Anyone else gone down this route? Any pitfalls or any useful advice? Thanks.

Tiny Desk, Daryl's House, and now this. Some great music being made out there. Thanks for sharing.
I've always thought that 'Fever' would be a great choice for a bass accompaniment, and this is marvellous playing by Tal Ronen.
Wasn't sure when this started, but once they got into it, and all their little nuances kicked in I really liked it. However...
Sorry you don't like it, I thought it was pretty good. I'll be grumpy right back at ya and say that the original version was Little Willie John in 1956! Knocks Peggy Lee into a cocked hat if you ask me
...I loved this, and wasn't aware of it before, so thanks!
an actual basschatter(me) having a go at vocal Feedback/mickey taking quite welcome.
That's some great ventriloquism skills on display!! Well, you did say Very nicely done.

Totally subjective. I'll stick my neck out and say in trying to copy the parts so accurately you could be killing the musicality. Try playing around with them, making your own lines up, adding a few little nuances. I know I'll be shot down by the perfectionists, and there is a valid argument that the original versions will have the musicality of the original (possibly one of the greats) player, but to me it is all in the feel, so it needs to be your feel, not someone else's. Oh, and playing with a light touch is fine. I dig in like crazy - wish I could do otherwise!

Drop Thornybank on here a PM - He used to buy and sell lots of TE gear, and is great to deal with.

Fenderman custom....or a cheap rebadged stagg mb350
No idea what this makes: Custom Fenderman bass guitar Custom built by Geoff Banks who was the guitar tech for bands such as AC/DC and Genesis.
There was a thread on here not so long ago to an auction of Geoff's guitars and basses. Right old hotch-potch if I recall correctly. -
Stunning, and a nice looking headstock! No excuse for not having Wal gas now
What a weird poll. Surely 'Wedding/Corporate' is a type of gig, not a type of music?.
Likewise Party, Acoustic, and possibly Tribute. Interesting poll, but flawed.
And they were the assumptions I made, "most people won't even know what a barefaced cab is, let alone steal it". I had removed the basses and heads as they are more portable/valuable.

Bastards! Good luck to you...there but for the grace of god go most of us.
Yep, often leave the cabs in the boot, thinking they are too bulky and cumbersome to bother nicking. Even at Barefaced weight that's quite a shocker. Reckon the thieves might have known they were valuable?
Hi Mykesbass, Looks great. Is it a question of sound the reason to look for something else? Would you consider a trade for an Ashdown 1x15 combo hardly used? Let me know. Blessings Duncan Odgers
Thanks Duncan, but by PM the amp is now on hold, with a trade pending. -
Just out of interest, which Carvin do you have?
BX500. According to Molan who worked at Bass Gear where I bought mine, there were some major reliability issues, but if you got a good one, like I fortunately did, they are amazing. -

Always wanted to try one of these, so took a big gamble and bought this one in a not working condition from Paul (P_O_W), and got Mike Still in West Sussex to get it back to perfect working order. Only problem is...I don't really like it that much It has a huge sound, and funny, at lower volumes I love it, but much prefer my Carvin at full gig volume. I'd much prefer a trade to a straight sale - nice non-valve of similar second hand value, cheap double bass, or try me with anything of interest (done some great "unusual" trades on here in the past). Hope the link works now that Photobucket have decided to play hardball! https://www.flickr.c...2544@N08/z06XaQ
