Curtains. Or cushions. Could be either one.
Just found it on the Ritter site - didn't realise from Roland Rock's post that it is actually "upholstered" - amazing!

Love it! Would happily gig that at the Tickled Trout
You might get lucky and have it settle down quickly. I put flats on my fretless a little while back and the full section at the silk end of the E was just on the capstan close to the point of being in tune. It wasn't too bad but then I tried to keep as much slack out of the string in the early stage of winding on as I could. It behaves pretty much as normal now. How many times do you think the full section would have to go around? If you don't think you can get three full turns I wouldn't bother.
Actually, once up to tension there was more space than anticipated - really looked as if the full thickness would have been on the capstan, but it isn't. Good three turns! Also, the narrow gauge over the saddle is OK, but the B does seem a bit weak. Will see tomorrow when played at rehearsal volume. Thanks for the opinion/advice. Seems a bit daft now, but looked totally wrong out of the packet -
If you try it, be prepared to retune after every number. Good luck!
Every number? I get grumpy if it goes out of tune between gigs -
Just putting La Bella 760FL on to my 34" scale Shuker 5 string and it looks as if they are not compatible. The low B has about 4cm from the ball end of a narrower gauge, but this takes it across the saddle. Then at the headstock end I only have about 1cm of silk to wind on then it is straight on to the full thickness of the string. [s]Have I bought the wrong length[/s], is the string faulty, or does it work with the narrower gauge over the saddle? Rest of the pack are all as I'd have expected, full gauge over the saddle. Mods, I know this should be elsewhere, but I needed it in a busy bit of the forum. Hope that's OK.

Albums you think are crap but are critically acclaimed...
I can't help wondering what all the artists mentioned in this thread would make of the music made by the (mostly) hobbyist basschatters? 😜 I do include myself here btw.
It isn't really a reflection on the artists though, more on those that decide something gets classic status. -
I think Brothers in Arms is the best Dire Straits album but then I'm not a fan of overblown guitar solo's
Possibly sums this debate up perfectly - one man's meat etc. Last thing I would call knopfler's playing on any of the albums is overblown! (note, my suggestion was Derek & the Dominos - that's overblown)!! -
Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits (not a patch on the first 3 albums)
Very valid first point ezbass. It is interesting to see these opinions. I'm a Dire Straits fan, but I find album 3 to be not a patch on the first two (still quite like it) and album 4 to be a much overlooked return to form. I personally think that Brothers in Arms is a victim of when it was made, with the early pushing of studio production technology, robbing the band of their earlier, organic feel. I sort of forgive it as I think there's some great playing and some great songs on it. -

Cracking guitar solo and guitar/bass interplay at the end of Rapture (about 15 mins in to video).

Derek & the Dominos, Layla & Other Assorted Lovesongs - Layla has got to be one of the worst "classics" of them all! -
Certainly a nicer bass. My first thought was Ibanez SR or SRX - modern ones use the same bridge and the control cover's the right shape, but other things don't match up. So not that, but something related - a different Ibby, or something from the same factory - a Cort, maybe. Edit - pups & bridge would match a Cort GB74.
Hopefully a GB34, bad enough, but the 74 is a decent slab of wood!

I think Planet Rock were on to this this afternoon - Final Countdown AND Eye of the Tiger in one show 😒

Equipment & transport (or is that not an issue in US - amazing how many potential band members over here think they can get away with not having one or both of these)?
Fascinated to know who your 200 are! Have you got a notional list already or is it building up as it goes along? Like how you covered a genre with the reggae selection and that's a nice way to make it into a series of more bite sized blogs (also less daunting/soul destroying for you as you won't have one long never quite finished blog hanging over you). So curious to see what's coming up next... a metal edition with, say, Harris, Burton, Trujillo, Kilminster etc, a pop edition with Gunnarsson and others, a folk blog with Glascock, Thompson, Pegg, Noyes etc, UK Session dudes blog with Foster, Flowers, Cottle... and so on and so forth? Nice format. Will watch with interest...
Thanks Trevor. No, I don't have a list, I look for little sparks of inspiration, and unknowingly, you've just given me one - thanks!

what was the last you heard which really spoke to you?
Mykesbass replied to christofloffer's topic in General Discussion
Tedeschi Trucks Band have been talking to me a lot lately. Love there own stuff but they also pick some great covers, so we've nicked this one in my band (including the Grateful Dead bit towards the end): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrSK-0-MQ8s -

The tendency in these threads is for loads of people to put up videos that nobody watches, but please have a listen to this and tell me I'm not off my rocker...
You're not off your rocker. Advice: Building my own bass with no experience
Mykesbass replied to MemphisStone's topic in Repairs and Technical
walnut body (various discussions have lead me to believe walnut is around the best for fretless), but I'm now onto pickups. I know this is really subjective and all about personal taste, but I'm looking for some suggestions around pickups that will give me good rich sound with a little bit of growl. I like the sound of the Delano Hybrids, but I'd be really interested to get smoother people thoughts or recommendations.
First quote is possibly one of the most contentious issues in the bass playing world (along with is Adam Clayton a good bass player), so stand by for fireworks!! Secondly, I'm presuming smoother was a typo or auto-correct? Thirdly, for growl have a look at Nordstrand Big Splits or Big Singles. Can't find the clip I wanted, or anything with fretless, but here's something from the forum: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/185313-nordstrand-big-singles-clip/page__p__1785207__hl__ibanez%20premium__fromsearch__1#entry1785207
