1. Pretty sure string type would only reduce noise from your fretting hand. Can't you embrace the noise as a natural part of the fingerstyle sound?
2. Done the first hour - well worth the listen (especially the ABC stuff). Thanks again for posting.
3. Happy with my two Fender Rumble V III 112s. They seem (like most stuff) have gone up a fair bit since I bought mine, but still an excellent lower priced cab.
4. Thanks for this - will see when I can get three whole hours to indulge!
5.
There's a guy on eBay, a real guitar 'improver' who can turn a silk purse into a sows ear...
Pretty sure he exclusively works the other way, turning 5 stringers into 4 stringers for those with "builders' hands".
6.
Has that ever happened to anyone? I can't think of a way you would do a circuit where it would actually cut out due to battery death, as batteries tend to get flat, not just die. As a result, you will just start to get clipping, and as most batteries discharge quite slowly with the sort of power an acitve circuit needs.
Not true - can't post them on my phone, but take a look at some battery charge graphs. They tend to lose a very small amount and then metaphorically fall off a cliff.
7. Very sad. We see quite a few posts berating the industry side of the music industry, and yes, it has many faults, but I personally think the world is becoming a poorer place with its decline.
8. I was told by someone who knows a lot more about these things than I do, that often the highly figured woods are the less stable ones, so that was possibly the cause of the problems with your Lakland neck. No worries with one from Jon, those carbon rods are going nowhere - couldn't even tell you where the truss rod adjustment is on mine and it is now 5 years old!!
9. Branding possibly? The way they name their model lines is a little confusing with the SGR models hardly having Ibanez on them. I had previously thought, wrongly, that particular name was their budget/mid-price line. Perhaps they should have done as Gibson did with Epiphone, or Fender with Squier and kept the original name for the premium models.
10. And of course, Wham! Last Christmas isn't exactly a bundle of laughs.
11. Oh, and this isn't miserable, but isn't exactly a happy ending http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgIwLeASnkw
12.
It depends on what your idea of perfect is. I first discovered this when I set up a Fodera with a super low action. To me it was perfect, so easily playable that I could almost glide around the board with the lightest touch. Imagine my surprise when I saw a review here on BC from a player saying he couldn't understand what the fuss was about with Foderas. He'd tried it and found it unplayable - buzzy, clangy and not able to get a decent tone because of this. There is a middle ground set up to a set of Fender specifications for a bass. I've used that as a general start point but found that a lot of younger players say it's too high and complain about the action.
But if you felt the customer was a serious prospect would you not have accommodated them and given the set-up a quick tweak to their satisfaction? I never bough a bass from you guys, but Phil was very obliging when I bought an amp there.

14. When it comes to poor set up that really is the shop's responsibility. It amazes me that the one thing a bricks and mortar shop has over the likes of Thomann is that they can ensure every instrument from a beginner's cheapie, through to a custom shop Fender are absolutely perfect ( and still they don't)!!
15. They should be. Have a look at parts 2 & 5 on this link: https://www.gov.uk/employment-status/worker
16.
Ive already got an old Yammie 310 knocking about ( for me). Went to mansons and picked up one of these used but mint for £140 http://www.fairdealm...0zhoaAuR-8P8HAQ Had a play on a few and this ticked all the boxes. Thanks for your inputs chaps.
That's a great buy - the Godin family of guitars can be ridiculously good bargains second-hand as they are not a well known brand, but the quality is excellent.
17.
Surely if the venue is paying the band then they're effectively on the venue's payroll, just like the temporary bar staff? For that evening.
No. This is treated as freelance work. You are not on their books for PAYE and National Insurance.
18.
If I come into your place of work to carry out a job I'll be required to be insured against my actions, that goes for Tesco or a pub if you are going in as a worker not a customer. If the venue employed you directly it would indeed be their responsibility to ensure their insurance covered having a band with a stage and loose cables etc. Coming in at the request of the bride or the venue as a sub contractor you will need your own insurance, same will go for the disco, caterers if they are bringing equipment in, bouncy castle whatever, it's all standard stuff. We had three PAT test venues and one public liability request last year but probably more like a dozen gigs that should have asked us if they were doing their job properly.
^This. As a band you are self-employed, you haven't gone on the venue's payroll for the night.
19.
Are you sure it isn't about Lee Marvin?
Only if they played the 7" at 33 rpm.
20. Orange Juice - "just like the Four Tops I Can't Help Myself"
21. Spandau Ballet - Listening to Marvin all night long (Hank or Gaye)?
22. So subjective, but I've always loved the way double bass, acoustic guitar and vocals work so well together on the album this comes from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohmSPv-rtSQ
23. Deep Purple were named after the song Deep Purple, but I don't think they ever performed it!
24.
*1980 in America.
Yes, but 1980 should be regarded as the last year of the 70's (can of worms opened)!
