1. I am kicking off a very long term project to build/get built a Ripper/Grabber style bass - a Gripper I guess! I'm looking for some good, very straight on photos of the body and some dimensions (body size, not neck pocket or routs at this time). Anyone in a position to help please? Many thanks, Mike
 2. Gregory Isaacs and Sly & Robbie should go on your list. My favourite Bob Marley is Live at the Lyceum.
 3.
Experience or just been doing it too long etc etc... says do it properly or don't do it at all and don't waste anyone's time. My thinking would be 'what sort of show were we thinking'.... and I don't believe all gigs are good gigs. We obviously differ, but the key thing would be that the people I play with don't.
My point is it is down to what you have agreed. If the other side screws up I'd still make every effort to go ahead. I can't imagine you would have taken such a booking in the first place.
 4.
ok... what about what the other side agreed to do...and sounds like they didn't?
I'd still want to stick to what I had agreed. I guess I have something of that "show must go on" mentality.
 5.
Walk... have minimum standards and stick to them.
Different folks, different minimum standards. Mine would have been I've agreed a gig, I play it.
 6.
I would guess/bet that most of the ones he actually sold commanded less than his full asking price. FWIW, I saw plenty of various brand basses priced at >$10K at NAMM this year.
I sort of understand the high end basses but how you justify those prices for an amp...
 7.
There was one at the Seattle Talkbass get-together a couple of years ago. I didn't play through it myself, but I thought it sounded pretty good, as one would hope it should for the $5K asking price. Flea used a couple of them for a brief while as well. A friend of mine looked into investing in the company but eventually thought better of it after visiting with the owner. If you do a search on "Vetchking" on Talkbass you should be able to find posts by the company principal. His posting style was rather, erm, exuberant. I was once tasked with cleaning up the huge mess that the original company created for the stores I worked for when they went out of business without any provision for honoring all those lifetime warranties. The bass amps were mostly pretty solid, but the tube guitar amps were a whole different story.
$5k wow! Puts Foderas in a whole new light. Will check out those Talk bass posts, thanks.
 8.
For a time Guitar Center also licensed the name "Acoustic USA" to a boutique builder doing extremely expensive quasi-reissues of the old iconic ones: https://www.facebook...?_fb_noscript=1 . It seems unclear if they are actually still in business, I think.
Yes, this was the interesting looking bit (very small print at the top of the website), and yes, very little sign of it being available anywhere.
 9. Anyone heard, or tried any of this new range - surprised they haven't been mentioned on here (unless I missed it on the forum search) http://acousticamplification.com
 10.
I think that program was actually quite important for music in this country. It lets the masses know that there is more available than just the manufactured stuff that Cowel and Co. produce. There is live music out there in your local area. We all know that as we are or have been involved in providing it but outside of forums like this people only see/hear what is presented on tele or radio or youtube.
^ This. Just a shame the show would have been preaching to the converted hidden away on BBC4.
 11.
Really enjoyed the series , but as with all things like this it's hard to compare different genres. There has to be a winner and they were more than worthy , but I could say that of a fair few of them Seems like all the bands who got to have a go loved the experience , even though they played for nowt
Yes, was a really difficult one for the producers to get right. As it was, my only criticism would be that a few obvious crowd pleasers got through ahead of possibly better bands - but then again, I guess that is an important part of being a band.
 12. Just caught up with the South episode and Final on IPlayer - what a great series, and what a load of great talent out there. Inspired me to push my band in different directions, and to up our game. WoT - lovely bass line in the opening of the Caffrey's original song.
 13.
Of course - are other strings available, then??
Or indeed other basses??
 14.
P Bass. That is all.
P Bass, Flats. That is all.
 15. Great playing, and love the ghost notes (if that's what they are)?
Coilte, you seem to be getting awfully pedantic here.....
FD - As I can be quite pedantic at times, I've got to leap to Colite's defence and say he isn't being so. I think he has made a very valid point in stating there is a difference between unknown (or shall we say not well known) and underrated - I know I have often misused the term. Pedantry would be picking up Colite's use of turning underrated into two words
 16. Wow, first time? That's pretty impressive!!
 17.
Hmm I fix guitars. I wear glasses and have a scar down my face. And I have a bit of a dislike to this guy's practices. That makes me the Harry Potter of guitar improvements lol.
Do you always fit Wizard pickups?
 18.
Just caught this on BBC4 again. Paul Moore is great on electric and upright. Am ashamed to say I'd never heard of him till now, but was very impressed. http://www.bbc.co.uk...n-cyprus-avenue
Me neither but head of bass at BIMM Dublin - be great being taught by someone of his calibre!
 19.
Folks, I think I'm looking for a somewhat more radical solution. I'm looking for something seriously lightweight, but giggable. Something like the Sinsonido, or similar. So - get radical - step outside of the "normal" bass shape....Go on, be creative...
The Yamaha is 3kg and moderately radical in a world of P & J clones.
 20.
Loved the show, and great work by The Caffreys (well done Michael), but it left me wanting to know more about the Acid-Bhangra-Rock outfit from Peterborough, Kissmet. At their initial piece of the show when they were rehearsing I thought they sounded great, really interesting, original, and a great beat. At the Sheffield battle of the bands their version of Sunshine Of Your Love was strictly UK pub rock ... well-played and they're clearly a good band, but all the bhangra was gone and with it the originality. What was that all about?
Big gig for a part time band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46wqmpSnPKU
 21. Yamaha Rbx 4A - had one in a trade, took it with the sole intention of moving it on, but great bass nonetheless, you would hardly know it was on your shoulder! These basses are designed to be light, unlike the lottery of standard bass weights.
 22. Well done WoT - a well deserved progression to the next round amidst some great music - loved the Acid Bhangra! But why is it in Off Topic?! Edit: well played Billy Apple!
 23.
So we became The Originals, and we had to change our name as there was another group in the east end called The Originals and we had to rename ourselves The New Originals. Then The Originals changed their name back to The Regulars and we thought well, we could go back to The Originals but what's the point?
Obvious - become the Original New Originals.
 24.
Status updates? What are they?
Precisely! Column on the right hand side of the desktop version.
 25.
There's already a thread for this in "Off Topic". No idea why it's there. Can't think of many things that are more on-topic than this.
Very true - it's like folks posting what could be quite decent threads as status updates (which don't get seen on phones)
