1. Great playing, and love the ghost notes (if that's what they are)?
Coilte, you seem to be getting awfully pedantic here.....
FD - As I can be quite pedantic at times, I've got to leap to Colite's defence and say he isn't being so. I think he has made a very valid point in stating there is a difference between unknown (or shall we say not well known) and underrated - I know I have often misused the term. Pedantry would be picking up Colite's use of turning underrated into two words
 2. Wow, first time? That's pretty impressive!!
 3.
Hmm I fix guitars. I wear glasses and have a scar down my face. And I have a bit of a dislike to this guy's practices. That makes me the Harry Potter of guitar improvements lol.
Do you always fit Wizard pickups?
 4.
Just caught this on BBC4 again. Paul Moore is great on electric and upright. Am ashamed to say I'd never heard of him till now, but was very impressed. http://www.bbc.co.uk...n-cyprus-avenue
Me neither but head of bass at BIMM Dublin - be great being taught by someone of his calibre!
 5.
Folks, I think I'm looking for a somewhat more radical solution. I'm looking for something seriously lightweight, but giggable. Something like the Sinsonido, or similar. So - get radical - step outside of the "normal" bass shape....Go on, be creative...
The Yamaha is 3kg and moderately radical in a world of P & J clones.
 6.
Loved the show, and great work by The Caffreys (well done Michael), but it left me wanting to know more about the Acid-Bhangra-Rock outfit from Peterborough, Kissmet. At their initial piece of the show when they were rehearsing I thought they sounded great, really interesting, original, and a great beat. At the Sheffield battle of the bands their version of Sunshine Of Your Love was strictly UK pub rock ... well-played and they're clearly a good band, but all the bhangra was gone and with it the originality. What was that all about?
Big gig for a part time band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46wqmpSnPKU
 7. Yamaha Rbx 4A - had one in a trade, took it with the sole intention of moving it on, but great bass nonetheless, you would hardly know it was on your shoulder! These basses are designed to be light, unlike the lottery of standard bass weights.
 8. Well done WoT - a well deserved progression to the next round amidst some great music - loved the Acid Bhangra! But why is it in Off Topic?! Edit: well played Billy Apple!
 9.
So we became The Originals, and we had to change our name as there was another group in the east end called The Originals and we had to rename ourselves The New Originals. Then The Originals changed their name back to The Regulars and we thought well, we could go back to The Originals but what's the point?
Obvious - become the Original New Originals.
 10.
Status updates? What are they?
Precisely! Column on the right hand side of the desktop version.
 11.
There's already a thread for this in "Off Topic". No idea why it's there. Can't think of many things that are more on-topic than this.
Very true - it's like folks posting what could be quite decent threads as status updates (which don't get seen on phones)
 12.
I wish I had someone kicking my butt like Buddy. Blue
Each to their own!! I really think his behaviour stank, and it actually stops me from enjoying his music. James Brown behaved in a very similar way (but it would take a lot to put me off his music)!
 13. I wouldn't care enough to become an odious bully - but then I'd never be anywhere near as great on bass as Rich was on drums.
 14. Joe Osborn Bob Babbitt Tommy Cogbill Bruce Thomas Willie Dixon There's never really a top or best in my book but these guys would always be somewhere on my playlist.
 15.
can't make up for nativity...
I never did trust that virgin birth idea...
 16. Probably because of this notion that it is "all in the fingers" that holy grail quest for great tone! Personally, I find it very hard to play bass with a pick, to the degree that if I ever play guitar now I tend to use fingers on that too. I love some pick on bass sounds, particularly the really old school muted flats on something like Labi Siffri's "It Must Be Love" and lots of other 60's pop, and the more gnarly punk players, but never been able to play that way. I like to think that a lot of what can seem like snobbery is more a bit of a running joke, along with the 5 string debate and good few others. Pick away - enjoy it!
 17.
This would be a welcome feature.
Would make LBGS a lot more popular
 18.
You can always get a re-fin.....
to their original relic condition?
 19. My cheap as chips Fender Rumble v3 112 is enough to keep up with my 2 gtr loud singer and not over delicate drummer. I usually use two just because I have them, but can get away with one. Lightweight too.
 20.
I'm surprised no has mentioned Fleetwood Mac yet. A very different line up these days from the Peter Green days and very different music as well. Is this a problem? I don't think so. Also, someone mentioned The Beatles. Seems to me they were the complete opposite to living in the past ( cue a Jethro Tull example?) - they kept their line up intact but changed their music completely. Is anyone suggesting they should have stuck with 'Love Me Do' type songs? Things change, and a good job too (usually).
only five posts in...
 21. Think you already have your own doubts, biggest being where do you draw the line? Yes, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac have all got huge fan bases for their different line ups. Then there are some bands who keep the line up bit go completely off piste, and yet remain the same band - Commodore, ByrdS, Status Quo...
 22. I'm biased, only because they gave such great service - Make sure you do that visit to Twyford. Also, if you like looking at interesting old guitars (not many basses), when you are in Brighton visit Mudpie Music in Trafalgar Street (just down from station).
 23. I understand the point about free gear, but looking at those amps I don't think for one minute TC is going to use something he isn't 100% with. Great work Alex.
 24.
Thanks all - so bands on the IOW are getting properly stiffed by the looks of it! I wouldn't mind so much if we got £120 'off-season' (the IOW is very tourist-based) and the money went up in the summer but it's the same all year. Not that I'd ever stop gigging but it's interesting to know what you guys get paid in other parts of the country.
Is it just down to supply and demand? More bands than venues in a geographically restricted area?
