Should bands (in name) carry on after large lineup changes?
Mykesbass replied to Twincam's topic in General Discussion
I'm surprised no has mentioned Fleetwood Mac yet. A very different line up these days from the Peter Green days and very different music as well. Is this a problem? I don't think so. Also, someone mentioned The Beatles. Seems to me they were the complete opposite to living in the past ( cue a Jethro Tull example?) - they kept their line up intact but changed their music completely. Is anyone suggesting they should have stuck with 'Love Me Do' type songs? Things change, and a good job too (usually).
only five posts in... -

Think you already have your own doubts, biggest being where do you draw the line? Yes, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac have all got huge fan bases for their different line ups. Then there are some bands who keep the line up bit go completely off piste, and yet remain the same band - Commodore, ByrdS, Status Quo... -
I'm biased, only because they gave such great service - Make sure you do that visit to Twyford. Also, if you like looking at interesting old guitars (not many basses), when you are in Brighton visit Mudpie Music in Trafalgar Street (just down from station).

How much do pub gigs pay around the country?
Mykesbass replied to rungles's topic in General Discussion
Thanks all - so bands on the IOW are getting properly stiffed by the looks of it! I wouldn't mind so much if we got £120 'off-season' (the IOW is very tourist-based) and the money went up in the summer but it's the same all year. Not that I'd ever stop gigging but it's interesting to know what you guys get paid in other parts of the country.
Is it just down to supply and demand? More bands than venues in a geographically restricted area? -
Got to be in a band - I love getting a response, people dancing, feet tapping, a few cheers or a genuine encore. Would have to find another band if this one went pear shaped.

BRX will have the knowledge on what is and isn't frowned upon in those circles but I'd like to add the Cort Sunset to the list (sorry, can't figure out adding links on my phone).

Am I the only one that gets annoyed by adverts for fake Fenders
Mykesbass replied to Kex's topic in General Discussion
'Interesting'..? That's doubtful.
I thought it was fascinating - initial reaction was to find it abhorrent, but after some reflection it started to make sense. Still not sure if I'll ever agree with it, but that's way too much of a thread de-rail! -
Just seen this pop up on my facebook timeline - think I've got guitar GAS and hardly ever touch the them these days!
I must say though, I also find the 'funny' mock ups of fender logos really cringey too!
Sorry didn't really know what else to do: http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac129/mike_howell1/Build%20Your%20Own%20P%20Bass/IMG_0809_zpse03yzyh7.jpg -
Having just seen the earlier cover I looked again at the new one which is celebrating his time on TV as Jools' bass player. Puts the cover in a different light in my opinion.

Sorry, lovely looking bass!
ok iv emailed will, and what a great guy, he got right back to me "I used a Seamoon “Funk Machine” pedal on that one- it was my favorite envelope pedal, but you can’t find those anymore!" Cheers Will. so ...mystery solved, it was one of these.... iv got the sniffer dogs out now.. http://www.effectsda...oon/funkmachine
So, impeccable musical taste and a good guy to boot! Well done that man -
Ah yes, Will Lee's sister is Sarah Lee, hence the Macarthur Park song.....
No, don't you dare revive that one... -
With you Bob, there's nothing like playing the bass - in whatever situation is right for you. I've had a spring in my step all week as we got a last minute gig for Saturday night, and I'll be doing a little Sunday afternoon jam. So no glory, or big paycheck for me, just deep enjoyment
I lived in Twickenham for a year and the above quote tells you everything you need to know about it.
What's the best thing to come out of Twickenham? The train to Waterloo
-
Hi Marc, I know Twickenham isn't in Surrey, but this Facebook page covers a lot of gigs and jams in the area: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SurreyGigs/ Bass shops - central London Wunjo on Denmark Street is fabulous. Lots of others on here love The Gallery in Camden. You have good connections into central London on the train. Have fun!
Yep great version, I posted this last year. WL does a terrific job along with an outstanding Orchestra. Love the cake at the end... Wasn't Will the voice of Ronald MacDonald many moons ago? I am sure I read that somewhere. I know he did commercial vocal sessions as well as Bass.
Sorry, didn't see that Still, lots of cheesy fun so no harm in sticking it up again -
I know this is a huge Marmite song around here - but here it is in all its camp glory with Will Lee putting in a pretty decent vocal performance http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2015/05/20/will-lee-with-the-cbs-orchestra-macarthur-park/
70's - Disco. Bloody awful! ;-) However glam rock, punk and post-punk were fantastic!
I'll take two of those, but punk left me cold (love lots of post-punk) - horses for courses etc.
