1. From their website FAQ's: "Can I buy from my local retailer? Only if you are local. We do not have anything against retailers and they add value for many players helping them select good equipment but our sells price point compared to costs does not allow us to go through the normal distribution process. You might note that we sell for 1/2 what our major competition does in the jazz preamp market and part of what allows us to sell at this price point is selling direct on the web."
 2.
Improvements stop as soon as you're happy with your bass.
Nail firmly struck on head. This question is quite a common theme, I think this answer should be kept to hand for future use
 3. Thanks for these answers. I was aware of the whole "mid cutting through" philosophy, but am shocked at just how noticeable this actually can be! Second bass was so loud in the room it was a bit disruptive!
 4. I'miss puzzled. I'very always been interested in the posts by our speaker experts regarding watts and volume, but yesterday I experienced a strange anomaly. My band did a recording session - fully live. I use two basses to get two distinct tones. Bass two sounded WAY louder in the room so I asked the engineer if I needed to roll some volume off. He amazed me by saying the signal he was getting was in fact a little lower. What's going on her then?
 5.
So, all I've got to say to you is. "Typically Tropical". (can't do smilies on this iPad)
And all I've got to say about that is "thank goodness", although he did engineer a recording session for a project I was involved in, but it didn't crack the upper regions of the chart!
 6.
Love grows Edison Lighthouse
Yes and no to this one - yes, it was Edison Lighthouse's only hit but they were just a vehicle for singer Tony Burrows who sang on lots of one hit wonders, even appearing on TOTP in two different bands on the same programme: https://en.wikipedia...ki/Tony_Burrows
 7.
Where do you draw the line for 'hit'? Personally, I'd say something should be at least top 20 to be a hit, you see it as top 40.
Back in the 80's or earlier you would have been very happy with a top 40 - these days you've probably sold 12 copies to your mates
 8. Just did a nice easy deal with Patch006 from his want ad. Pleasure to deal with. Cheers, Mike
 9. Despite the name it looks as if they have designed them for guitar, low power, open back speaker cab. Can't imagine they'll be great for bass, although the head may be ok.
 10. At that price surely they could have proof read the advert
 11.
My nomination for best one hit wonder..... Althea and Donna - Uptown Top Ranking. Great tune and a bass line even I can play...
Great choice Tredders! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMrNDnU6PPk
 12.
I have mine clipped to the back of the headstock so you can't see much of it from the front anyway.
Ah, brains as well as talent! I'll have to try that out - I really ought to tune more than once a month
 13.
Switched off, yes. Mainly because if I take it off and put it down at a gig I'll never find it again.
Hadn't thought of that side of things, and yes, can see that being a big problem (I've lost count of the number of plug in ones I've lost). Reason I asked is that it just doesn't seem right to me - way too modern and hi-tech for my taste!
 14. Do those of you that use clip on tuners leave them on while gigging?
 15. Only reason for Basswood being cheaper, and therefore seen as inferior to alder and ash is that it is very plain and boring, so is only really suitable for solid colour finishes. It is used on many great instruments.
 16.
Come on Eilean Denys midnight runners. First ever single I bought!
I think even by the OP's generous rules this one can't qualify - five or so hits and one classic album Searching for the Young Soul Rebels. Great album. And who can forget the classic balls up at Top of the Pops where they performed Jackie Wilson Said under a huge projection of the darts player Jockey Wilson
 17.
Grandma......The bloody St Winnies School Choir.
And of course Grandad by Clive Dunn, written by Herbie Flowers. Oh well, I guess we can forgive Herbie for one aberration
 18.
Every track I know on here I adore! Except Brilliant Mind by Furniture - my first band shared a bill with them once at the Moonlight Club and ended up with the ****ty end of the stick. Actually, the song's not half bad. But I still hate 'em after 36 years. What a sad b@stard I am!
Oops, sorry about that Michael, but that really surprises me. In my past dealings with Jim Irvin I found him absolutely charming.
 19.
Echo Beach - Martha & The Muffins
Funny, until today I thought I was pretty much on my own with this one, but it seems to have quite a bit of love on this thread
 20. Martha & the Muffins - Echo Beach Furniture - Brilliant Mind
 21. ^ This. Thanks for updating Biglump
 22. Don't really have any - my only no-no in the other thread was photo-flame, so I'm pretty open minded. I personally think it comes down to the individual bass - some spalted finishes look great, some look completely wrong, don't really like many single cuts, but have seen some I really like. If I were to commission a second bass I think the only main stipulation would be for it to be significantly different to my existing one.
 23.
Good grief! A Brickenbacker...
24. Yes, great tune - and possibly Trigger's finest hour
