Sorry Synthaside, but another reason why you should stick to writing code - what on earth is an upcoming pregnancy? -

Unusual/interesting/beautiful venues for gigs
Natural History Museum: Upstaged by Dippy the Diplodocus.
Beaten to it (and no camera phones and very little digital photography when I played there). Dreadful acoustics!! -
Oh totally - wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same! Weight isn't a massive concern at the minute. But it would be weird to have an amp that weighs more than your cabs. As in weighs more than 2 retro 2x10s - only weight I can find for the ABM900 online is 28kg... the retros weigh 13kg! Horses for courses and all that!
Would have suggested you get to hear one before making your mind up, but they're pretty thin on the ground, so can't imagine much chance of finding one in Ballymena!!
I remember our Barefaced chats! I would doubt I'd go for the Carvin I'm afraid. It may be on a level with anything else out there, but it's a case of better the devil you know. If I could get an Orange TB500/1000 or Ashdown ABM900 for the same (or less) money previous experience tells me I'd be happy with them, so the Carvin wouldn't get a look in!

Each to their own - the only thing I would say in defence of the Carvin is that I've tried to lift a ABM900 and the Carvin is a feather in comparison. I imagine the Orange stuff is heavy too. I was going for compact and light (due to back problems) which is what sent me down that route. There doesn't seem to be many on BC that use Carvin amps (a very generalised sweeping comment based on my limited reading here), but I'm very happy with mine! EDIT: Good luck in your search - I'd be interested to hear what you do go for in the end.
Another very happy Carvin user, and having had the chance to use the Orange Terror a few times at jam nights I can honestly say I'd rate the Carvin way above it.

Ah, but is that Bread, the band, the TV series or the wheat based staple of our diet?
-
Not only includes the best piece I have ever heard on the competition but also has the highest overall standard! If you've never listened and voted before, make this month the one when you do!
-
I play fretless for 90% of what I do and own neither chorus or reverb. Got a nice overdrive for a couple of songs though!
Heavy blues = Zeppelin, surely?
I think Robert Plant must have left his echo box on
-
I once drank two pints ( and I'm not a particularly fast drinker) whilst listening to a band do their version of 'Red House' at a beer festival. That was pretty epic. (in the sense that it seemed to go on for a very long time rather than being notable for anything else).
Red House needs two pints (and I'm teetotal)

Can't find an absolute definitive answer, but it looks like Airline might be a possibility. Company was in operation from 58, and I can see basses online from 62 (also one circa 1960).
-
Sounds to me that you need to look at Led Zeppelin's more blues influenced stuff, Since I've Been Loving You, Levee Breaks, I Can't Quit You Baby - as already said, a lot of it is just taking the old standards (I Can't Quit You Baby) and making your own heavy interpretation of them.
Well, I know which one is the more fun..!
Moi aussi! Especially with pieces like yours this month - formidable!
-
Well I got my shortlist down to nine! Have voted now but this was the toughest choice yet. Well done all!
+1 to this, absolute knock-out selection this month, well done all, some of the best tracks ever IMO. So, 9 votes cast on here, 121 cast on the EU referendum. Is it worth moving the competition to Off Topic on Eurochat?
-
So, a shortlist of seven - I hate you lot this month
-
Oi you lot, sort it out, I'm not halfway through and already got four definites. Can I have some back from when I didn't cast three votes please
Have to say, initially, I'm finding it a little tricky to navigate in here. I see a general search function that reveals a huge list of related search word topics.. I was hoping to find some dedicated forums based around my gear so I can chip in with what I know. Any advice?
This site hasn't really developed in that way, in fact there's on thread wanting to start a club for a particular brand that sort of got shot down in flames (don't worry, it's pretty friendly on here most of the time)!! There is a Gear Porn section - try a search there, or in Bass Guitars or Amps & Cabs rather than a whole site search to find topics relevant to your gear. Or, start your own thread. And welcome to the forum of course

Best one yet, the Duke of Wellington, Shoreham by Sea - pub owned by Dark Star Brewery, so full of people who love great beer and music. Really enthusiastic crowd, and the band played brilliantly. Really pleased, as with all bands, we've had a few bumps along the way, but are now really getting it together.
Depends how many gtrs they stock... and action is one thing... not sure tweaking the neck is something something they'd do lightly..
Any senior assistant, manager or owner of a music shop should be confident and competent enough to tweak a truss rod.

Could you see if your doctor can get you some ongoing occupational therapy?
PS, Any of you come from humble beginnings and remember when you had to borrow amps from friends? I do.
Does three (and vocals) of us playing though an HH PA an done 15" home made cab count as humble?

Shuker 5 String Fretless P Bass - I wanted a traditional shape P bass but love playing 5 string (like using low d and c quite a bit in my band), and fretless as I started, 40 years ago on double bass, so I feel at home with it. US Kit built seafoam green P Bass - bought as a fun project, couldn't sell it for less than I bought the parts for so started to use it, and it makes a real difference to a half dozen songs in the band's set. Carvin BX500 - absolute bargain of a US built amp that punches way above its price tag. Fender Rumble VIII 112 cabs x 2 - Cheap as chips, sound great, and two, well just because! MXR 80 DI+ - Discovered the joys of just a tiny bit of grit, and also is a standby DI. Guitars: Guild S90 - Had this for close to 40 years, lovely guitar and my first real one, so never going to part with this. Gordon Smith GS1 - Great workhorse guitar (like a Les Paul Junior) I picked up in a trade on here. Only thing I have that is surplus to requirements, but keeping in case my daughter wants to start again. Cort acoustic - Would have said a couple of weeks ago that this is surplus to requirements, but two weeks ago I used it to write my first ever song!
You won't regret it Mike. Great price too.
Well I've now too discovered the joys of a little bit of overdrive. Didn't get a Soul Food in the end, as I did a trade for an MXR 80 DI+, which also gives me a great standby if the Carvin ever lets me down. I've been amazed how nicely this works in the mix, as I'd always been pretty much into clean bass all the way. So thanks for sharing your discovery, here's another convert!!
Dulwich is ridiculous. The village is home to some of the biggest snobs in London, the whole place is a giant toff's club. I can't wait to move away from this area. 2 more weeks and I'm out of here.
Yep, always has been - worked in the Dog & Vomit (Crown & Greyhound) nearly 30 years ago, and it was just as bad back then. Amazed they never put a fence up to keep the plebs out!
Note - the half moon in Herne Hill is not to be confused with the other (more) famous music pub the Half Moon in Putney.
Ooof, not more famous to us South East Londoners!
