1. How long have you had them on? May well calm down after a few hours of playing. Brand spanking new they can will feel and sound a bit abrasive if you are used to flats/tape, but part of this is to be enjoyed! (Just started playing them on a new bass while my main bass has flats - loving the tow different sounds).
 2.
Whenever Betty Davis comes up I also think about Camille yarbrough. Even more forgotten, released just the sole album which is a bit more low key than Betty Davis but pretty funky none the less. https://youtu.be/haFh_VkEhpM
Ooh, nice!
 3.
I saw him in Rick Wakemans band on the tour for the "1984" album. He was the first person I ever saw using a Jaydee bass. Very good player. His brother Gary was a sax player if I remember correctly.
That's why the name was sounding familiar - yes, top session sax player from the time.
 4. o when's the comeback tour booked? These guys don't miss a trick when it comes to marketing - they'll be back! And yes, always liked them.
 5.
Bet they're great live - off to see if there's any footage.
Well that was worthwhile: (edit, very tasteful guitar solo at 3 minutes ish)

 7.
Now, where's that thread where the chap was building a 4x15 cab...?
Do you mean 8x15?! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/259954-custom-8x15-bass-cabinet/page__st__240__p__2823274__hl__8x15__fromsearch__1#entry2823274
 8. Some amazing phrasing going on there. Great choice Blue, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the younger Funk fans on here will love it if you give them a chance!
 9. I think that Douglas has been on the Special K
 10. For me, the first two and a half minutes is a cracking little pop song - a bit like something you'd expect Stiff to have put out in the late 70's, early 80's. But then it just keeps going and doesn't really seem to know why - as if you have too many ideas and are trying to stuff them all into the one song. I'd also put the little guitar motif in from the start, very catchy, and is what makes the track for me.
 11.
I hadn't thought of that - what do you think the radius on my Stingray is ?
11" according to the spec, so quite considerably different!
 12.
Fretboard radius can come into it also, the Sire has a more pronounced 7.25" radius which you must prefer!
Quite a big difference between the two, so this could well be the "fast" factor.
 13.
Who cares?
You should, as if R1 were doing their job properly DV & the T's would be in with a serious shout of some airplay!
 14.
I don't see anything wrong here. It seems like they are using information to decide on what gets played. I think this is quite democratic. I suppose we could have the good old days where Monster Monster tossers paid Smashie and Nicey to play whoever the record company wanted promoting.
See their service remit in post #6 - they are supposed to support new music and emerging artists. How is an algorithm going to do that?
 15. Such an important man in the UK music industry, broke hundreds of records and bands - his was one of the few shows that had any real impact on sales for many years. Can this post be merged into General Discussion, as that is where he deserves to be?
 16. Oh, and I loved the Peterbuilt Dynamite Box Telebass that someone on here owns. That was very cool IMO.
 17.
I'll stick my neck out and say that no coffee table/exotic topped bass can be cool. Beautiful, elegant, masterpiece maybe, but cool? No.
Are spalted tops coffee table? If so, I disagree. If they are not, then I'd better go back and edit my post, as I completely agree on the exotics!
 18. With bass guitars I'm a bit odd - love traditional shapes (P,J,EB etc.) and then sometimes see something completely different (crazy, over the top custom, coffee table top type) and love it. In my book Relics are the only things that cannot be cool. Double basses are always cool!
 19.
Its mission statement isn't to play interesting, clasic, or alternative music, but play what's popular.
Can you provide a link to this mission statement please? The latest Statement of Programme Policy I can find is from 2010/2011 and is very different from this.
Service remit The remit of Radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech. Its target audience is 15-29 year olds and it should also provide some programming for younger teenagers. It should offer a range of new music, support emerging artists – especially those from the UK – and provide a platform for live music. News, documentaries and advice campaigns should cover areas of relevance to young adults.
20. I must admit this disheartens me, even though, at 51 I am not Radio 1's target audience, but I do feel that this will hasten the homogenisation of pop music: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/bbc-radio-1-promises-data-will-not-replace-djs-as-it-appoints-algorithm-playlist-expert-chris-price-a6840001.html
 21. Yes, used to wear just the one earplug to stop that, as the overall volume wasn't too loud, but that close proximity with the crash used to play havoc in one room I used to use.
 22. Guess it is a case of the rock pioneers reaching older age: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35438191
 23. That has got to be the worst name for a colour description ever!! Nice looking bass though http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Montezuma%27s+revenge
 24.
"Must be experienced. Only apply if you're between the ages of 16 and 19."
It's alright, I know exactly where you are coming from!
 25.
I can actually sympathise with the pub that tried it.... as I've never seen them have that many people in... but that to me just says the venue isn't working... everyone should just give it up.
This venue is working, but problems with the big PubCo's (Punch Taverns, Enterprise Inns etc.) are well documented - it seems these companies were only ever in it for the value of the buildings as assets, and this landlord was very open to me about this. Also, the jug pubs do seem to be the ones that have great audiences, so, if like me, you love playing to an enthusiastic audience rather than going home with your pockets stuffed full of fivers, locally, these pubs are well worth playing.
