1.
So here's an Eagles song with the life not sucked out ...
Must dig my American Series albums out now!
 2.
Some people said the same abouit The Eagles themselves.
Touche!
 3.
Bass Direct were advertising 2 new Stingrays last week at £900
Are, OK, I stand corrected. Thomann won't be moving any at their prices then!!
 4. Take the s out of https for embedding. Funny, and I'm not tribute band bashing here, but to me there is something wrong with these guys. It is almost like it is so polished and finely honed that they have sucked any life out of the performance. I'll rephrase that, as I still can't quite put my finger on it. It is as if they are so good that you really should be seeing the Eagles standing there. and the fact that you aren't is a bit, well, wrong really!
 5.
Did you remove the finish from inside the neck pocket? If so that might have something to do with the change in fit?
No, but the neck was painted all the way into the pocket, so yes, that makes sense. It was the fact that the holes match when straight, and when not straight - interesting how these tolerances work.
 6.
Just to add in, I thought 700 ish quid for a stingray was pretty good value, then I saw today that PMT have them on for £1099 new!!! Given you might be able to knock some off the price, I'd see 3-4 hundred extra on a brand new one makes a whole load more sense.
Doubt you would get anything off that - GAK doing same price but Thomann £1300, so this must be rock bottom. Which means that the £700 secondhand price is still 40% off the new price, which seems fair.
 7. And finally for now, the oiled neck - interesting wood - it almost looks bruised - I have stripped, sanded and polished, and have decided it must be the natural finish, and possibly why it was chosen for a painted finish:
 8. Headstock, awaiting a decal from a man in Korea - note, tiny bit of filler where the old nut was almost welded in
 9. Decided to bolt it all together to see how it is coming along. Bit of a shock first time, in that the beck fitted the pocket very poorly. Took it back off and shimmed either side, top with two strips of cereal packet, bottom with one. This seemed to line it up much better, and then when I screwed it back on it was much better. Strange, as it was still using all the original holes. Still need to do all the electrics, and get a new nut - the old one is a bit grotty.
 10.
And the reason things are actually "rare" is usually one of two things: no one wanted one when they were new (perhaps they were simply too expensive for what they were), so they didn't make or sell very many or they didn't work very well / broke so very few people kept one. A Morris Ital (for those of you of a certain vintage) is a very rare car now, but it was crap when it was new and time hasn't made it any better. The sane goes for a lot of things. 11.
This has inspired me not to move on my sgc nanyo but to refinish it. May well be asking for advice.
Wow, delighted to hear that, but the only advice I think I can give is to not be too worried if it all goes horribly wrong!! This really has been a suck it and see exercise, driven on only by hating to see a bass of this calibre go to waste, and the kind comments and advice from others on here. (Actually, that's the second piece of advice, put a build thread up)!
 12.
Me neither. My cover band plays a lot of numbers which use notes below E. I play the B string on nearly every number in the blues and Americana band. The original bands I've been in have all used the low notes. I know experiences and preferences differ, but I haven't been in a band in the last 20 years where playing a 5 string bass wasn't a huge advantage to me.
Yes, playing similar stuff, I find I use the low b string a lot - especially the d when playing in either d or g. To me, d on a 4 string is far too close to guitar territory.
 13.
I was surprised by this! I put an ad up on Sunday afternoon, by tea time it was way down the second page. I typed most of it out again, thinking it hadn't actually posted, before thinking to check past the first page. That's the downside of such an active markeplace on this site!
Yep, moving like an autocue at the moment
 14.
nice lookin' body
Yes, shame it had been so abused - a bit like my own personal restoration that I've also been working on
 15. Thanks Andy, getting a nice sheen to it now with the tung oil and elbow grease!
 16. Well done for taking these difficult steps, and posting about it, and it is great to have you back! Now get on with posting some great grooves on here once more!
 17. That Bridge - he even gives a nice close up!
 18.
''Prefer not to post' 'Collection only'
There is a big issue with couriers and lack of insurance though. I don't think any will insure a bass in transit, although I'd love to be proved wrong.
 19.
Tinie Tempura
Excellent! Don't think there's been a batter one than that...
 20. Having got a bass up for sale in the marketplace I think C is a biggie. Can't believe how quickly you disappear from the front page, and with the 36 hour bumping rule you really see how much else is available when you trawl through to find your own post!
 21. Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan both use N.... in songs that get daytime play, Oliver's Army and Hurricane respectively. In both songs the word is used in perspective, and shouldn't be thought of as offensive, but Costello's did cause some waves recently with a local BBC DJ offering to resign because he'd played the song and noticed the lyric. Meanwhile Jeremy Vine plays it unedited almost every week. The other Radio 2 favourite that has a very clear use of sh1t in it is New Radicals, You Get What You Give.
