1. Always amazed that Walk On The Wild Side made it on to daytime radio.
 2.
I was trying to think of some stage names for the band members, as per The Rutles. So far I've got Dave Gross, Taylor Porkins and Fat Smear - there's also Chris Chips-eat, and Cake Mendel. Needs some work though I think.
N'ate Enough?
 3. Bought this a few months back but haven't actually needed it, as band has stuck to just putting vox through the PA. I bought this as new old stock from the Peavey UK auction, and have only run it to test. Badge is missing, otherwise in excellent condition. Need the room in my garage so now looking for what I hope is a [s]reasonable[/s] [s]£180[/s] bargain £120 - this model retailed around the £500 mark. Collection only as it is just a little on the large side!! 4. With the exception of Robert Smith you don't tend to find many overweight Goths, so Lards Of The New Church would be particularly niche.
 5. Here we go - three coats of stain has produced a nice flat finish, with some subtle grain showing. A couple of bits that are still far from perfect - the biggest split, although now a smooth repair, is still visible, though partly because the PVA has made it shiny, so once the oil finish goes on and is polished up this will hopefully be less noticeable.
 6. Not holding my breath, but attempt number three at filling and then coating (stain 2nd and third time) is starting to look like it may be successful! One more coat and I'll should be confident enough to post some update pictures!
 7.
Yeah looked at these , are they active? would need to demo, no stores seem to have them...played a fretted, nice punchy sound
According to the EB site they are. There's always the very generous 30 day policy at Thomann, and similar distance selling rules from all internet shoppers. Also, the EB UK distributor used to be very good at getting stock to their authorised dealers if someone was interested in a model the dealer didn't have in stock.
 8. These guys MUST be on the list: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0tpI4Y4W7I
 9.
So that the audience can't talk. Keep up!
10.
I thought people like it loud!!!!!
But why? (not why you thought they did, but why they do like it loud)?
 11. This? http://www.gak.co.uk/en/sterling-by-musicman-ray34ca-fl-black/96664
 12.
Rock music needs to be loud, it's very emotive and evokes responses like jumping and shouting en masse that would drown out the music if it wasn't loud.
But this goes back to Ambient's follow up post - is it too loud even for the genre? For me, some of the most energetic, vibrant sounding music is early Rock & Roll - Little Richard, Elvis Presley's That's Alright Mama etc. These days, if you hear a band covering these types of songs, unless they are an authentic R&R band, they'll beef them up both in the amount of notes they play and the volume and, IMO, kill the vibrancy of the original. So yes, Rock music needs to be loud, but not that loud!
 13.
There's being the appropriate volume for a specific genre, but then there's being loud for that genre. I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
Very true. There is no reason for being too loud for any genre. I went to see Alice Cooper at the Hammersmith Odeon early 2000s, and that was so loud you couldn't actually hear anything. There is this crazy badge of honour thing - if it's too loud you'r too old. Load of old tosh in my book!
 14.
"..what makes a sound musical - or not..." First you need to define what you mean by 'music', for example: - the expression of definite or abstract ideas and emotions using rhythm, melody, harmony and timbre/texture, sometimes in conjunction with words, using any source of sound including silence Any sound used in the above context can be considered musical (even silence) Any sound not used in the above context isn't IMO
This to me sounds like the answer - it isn't so much the sound (or lack of) in itself but why that sound was made IM&HO (in mine and his opinion)
 15.
I think this would go in an instant if you were willing to post fella, lovely looking thing!

I recon you're right. Get down the cycle shop and get some cardboard and parcel tape, and it'll soon be gone.
Thanks gents - Courier option including hard case for extra £35 now offered.
 16. Friday evening bump, and yes, sorry, no trades as I've got a project on the go.
 17. +1 to that Bilbo! My band plays a version of Stateboro' Blues where I play a root note with just one bar of walking every 4th bar and boy does it make the song pulse along nicely! As for the OP, one of my favourites, again hugely simple is The Weight, playing it somewhere between The Band and the Staple Singers.
 18. +1 - where are you - I know of two dealers near to me.
 19.
thanks Mike though they are actually PA power amps and not specific bass amp/speaker thread?
No Pete, loads of people on here use them with pre-amps. I'm sure if you ask one of this section's mods they'll agree and move it for you.
 20. I think there is a slight flaw in your argument David. It is not just of the luthier builds doing badly, it is a couple of name brands that hold on to their value - particularly Fender. Look at the way Cort, Aria, Ibanez and Yamaha plunge in value compared to Fender's own budget offering, which many feel are far inferior to the aforementioned brands. Enjoying your topics by the way, controversy without trolling in my opinion.
 21.
Don't like troll? OK, you're a stirrer then. That any better?
That was somewhat inevitable from you
