[/quote] It is actually Pau Amarello, or Yellowheart. Tougher than maple, and Jon thought it would stand up to wear better than maple. I have flates on it now, and it lovely and deep and thumpy, just how I like it! As for Fender, I've always been baffled by economics, in particular the need for growth. It looks to me as if the chasing of that growth, especially in a changing market (guitar music going in and out of fashion) is what has caused a lot of their woes.

The Star Bass does seem a little on the high side, especially when you see the 3,000+ euro RRP, but I guess that is low volume German manufacturing. With the quality from the Far east now so good it almost makes it seem not worthwhile to build a bass like that (without crazy expensive tonewoods etc) in Europe, but I guess there are still enough buyers who feel that the Far East basses are inferior or have a stigma attached to them. Fodera on the other hand is one of the largest can of worms you can open on here

Ok, I know you've all been waiting for the price drop so here it is. Now down to £300 inc case collected or £320 posted. Partial trades (with money to me) also considered. Seafoam Green US parts built bass - Mighty Mite Body, Fender Licensed neck, Kent Armstrong pick up and WD hardware. Bought this as I always fancied a Seafoam Green bass, and for the fun of putting it together, but now have a new project that needs money spent on it, so this has to make way. Neck is oiled and feels lovely. Pictures show the first attempt to position the bridge was off by 2.5mm, and the finish where the screws were removed cracked slightly, This has been hidden by the careful placing of an ashtray cover that adds to the vintage vibe. Decal has not been oiled or varnished, so will come off easily if you don't like the F3nd3r Recession Bass logo. Selling for [s]what[/s] less than the unmade kit cost me. [s]Sorry, not interested in any trades this time[/s]. Partial trades with cash coming my way considered. Some sound samples - tried to keep it really simple, just s few scales, and Audacity wouldn't let me playback so couldn't edit the mistakes out , All fingerstyle, some over the pickup, some by the neck and some by the bridge. Very lively bass! Will courier this but only in a hardcase for an extra £25.00 (Gator case that's never been out of the house). Pick up without the case welcome. Amazing the prices they ask for the amount of damage - unlike Thomann with their Deko goods that apparently usually have just the most minor blemishes.

I nearly did the opposite - I was tour managing and at the Brook in Southampton Phil Harding (Time Team) was in the audience and I really wanted to go up and talk to him.

Losing our guitarist, so seeking a replacement. We are a female fronted soulful blues band, currently changing direction a bit (our first drummer has dropped out for now due to major health problems, have replaced him with someone much more full on in style), so are tweaking the repertoire to suit. Now the guitarist has just told me he wants to do something else, which is a major shame. We're not exactly run off our feet with gigs, but do have a really nice club gig in the diary for end of November, and have dates booked next year in two of the best blues pubs locally. Looking for someone with a broad interest, not just loads of 12 bars. We're all easy to get on with and based all over - Burgess Hill, Shoreham and Horsham, so somewhere within that slightly off triangle would be ideal.

Tough one. I did stick with a band doing material outside of what I really wanted and grew to really love it (and now miss it), but yes, if your heart is set on something specific, and as your last band was so right, you've got to go for what you really want. Good luck in the quest.

[/quote] True - in fact, despite the examples I posted, to me, the bass tone on those early stranglers recordings were absolutely perfect and helped define that musical style.

Love the tone of the bass on the Doobies track at the start, but then felt it was a bit overbearing as the track, and the bassline progressed. Great call on Roxy, and of course Pino on Paul Young is leaning on an open door.
