Love putting ideas together, trying new songs, rehearsing, but yes, nothing beats the gig!

Ok, I know you've all been waiting for the price drop so here it is. Now down to £300 inc case collected or £320 posted. Partial trades (with money to me) also considered. Seafoam Green US parts built bass - Mighty Mite Body, Fender Licensed neck, Kent Armstrong pick up and WD hardware. Bought this as I always fancied a Seafoam Green bass, and for the fun of putting it together, but now have a new project that needs money spent on it, so this has to make way. Neck is oiled and feels lovely. Pictures show the first attempt to position the bridge was off by 2.5mm, and the finish where the screws were removed cracked slightly, This has been hidden by the careful placing of an ashtray cover that adds to the vintage vibe. Decal has not been oiled or varnished, so will come off easily if you don't like the F3nd3r Recession Bass logo. Selling for [s]what[/s] less than the unmade kit cost me. [s]Sorry, not interested in any trades this time[/s]. Partial trades with cash coming my way considered. Some sound samples - tried to keep it really simple, just s few scales, and Audacity wouldn't let me playback so couldn't edit the mistakes out , All fingerstyle, some over the pickup, some by the neck and some by the bridge. Very lively bass! Will courier this but only in a hardcase for an extra £25.00 (Gator case that's never been out of the house). Pick up without the case welcome. Trade option - might be interested in a cheap project or interesting guitar or guitar amp but need cash my way please. Amazing the prices they ask for the amount of damage - unlike Thomann with their Deko goods that apparently usually have just the most minor blemishes.

I nearly did the opposite - I was tour managing and at the Brook in Southampton Phil Harding (Time Team) was in the audience and I really wanted to go up and talk to him.

Losing our guitarist, so seeking a replacement. We are a female fronted soulful blues band, currently changing direction a bit (our first drummer has dropped out for now due to major health problems, have replaced him with someone much more full on in style), so are tweaking the repertoire to suit. Now the guitarist has just told me he wants to do something else, which is a major shame. We're not exactly run off our feet with gigs, but do have a really nice club gig in the diary for end of November, and have dates booked next year in two of the best blues pubs locally. Looking for someone with a broad interest, not just loads of 12 bars. We're all easy to get on with and based all over - Burgess Hill, Shoreham and Horsham, so somewhere within that slightly off triangle would be ideal.

Tough one. I did stick with a band doing material outside of what I really wanted and grew to really love it (and now miss it), but yes, if your heart is set on something specific, and as your last band was so right, you've got to go for what you really want. Good luck in the quest.
2000, I took the family so see that gig. Midnight Train To Georgia is Bob Babbitt's tone at it's best.
I had "If I Were Your Woman" in mind, but on second listening it wasn't as great as I thought, but we are talking headphones and compressed, nasty uploads.
Was lucky to see the Funk Brothers playing at the Royal Festival Hall a (good) few years ago. What an amazing band and, while, Bob Babbitt probably gets overshadowed by the Jamerson legend a bit what an amazing player.
Lucky man! I was going to use some of his work with Gladys Knight as an example, but on those recordings it was his lines and style, not the tone that stood out.
This is the best bass tone I've ever heard although this is live, actual song starts about 1m 30s in

A good bass tone (or not) is entirely dependant on the arrangement and overall sound of the track in question. Something that sounds awesome on one track would be hideously inappropriate on another.
True - in fact, despite the examples I posted, to me, the bass tone on those early stranglers recordings were absolutely perfect and helped define that musical style.
I always assumed that was Jamerson. Either way it is one of those lines that gets better each time I listen to it, and each time I try to play it I realise just how subtle and nuanced it is
Definitely Babbitt (and sorry, missed the extra t in the original post). Yes, very cool line as well as fabulous tone. http://www.bobbabbitt.com/disc.htm
Dion and the Belmonts. "Teenager in Love". The person who recorded that double bass is a god. It sits there in the stereo mix and just growls at you. You can smell the varnish. "Katmandu" - Cat Stevens (from Mona Bone Jakon). Another double bass, but this one is MASSIVE. Careful, coz this track starts off quietly (so quietly that the tape hiss is very apparent) and then, wait for it.........a bull fiddle the size of a small planet! "From The Underworld" by the Herd. Recorded in the days when they mic'ed bass amps up. I love that phasey bass sound, all string and no body. Bet it played well on am radio.
Dion sounds like it is thumping out from a jukebox - just like those sorts of tracks should!
Me too, how about a bit of this...
Ooh, yes, good call. I'm going to find a way of using this sound in something one day!

Love the tone of the bass on the Doobies track at the start, but then felt it was a bit overbearing as the track, and the bassline progressed. Great call on Roxy, and of course Pino on Paul Young is leaning on an open door. One tone I have always loved is a very distinct technique - flats, pick and mute.I'll never use it, but here's my favourite example: and then some wonderful fingerstyle from Bob Babbitt:
Sorry to hijack the thread, Mykesbass. I did my post on an impulse and only just realised what I did!
Hey, no worries at all. Grangur has been very helpful on my thread so nice to know he has picked up a bargain, and you've got your sale - win all round. That's how a community should operate.
Without trying to crash or hijack the thread, I'm selling an SR800.
That's a great price - much less of a project (for someone else) than this one!!

Goot the dates wrong, but yes, looks like they did build in USA for a while: http://www.guitar-bass.net/features/the-only-way-is-essex-the-ashdown-story/
Happy Jack is right, it's really annoying when people change their avatar. I'd never do it. S.P.
Yeah, especially changing them to the moving ones! -

As for those really annoying animated ones... -
Excellent - had the gb75, build quality was exceptional. Only thing that was wrong for me was the active controls - way too much to fiddle with, I just want plug & play. Apart from that, it played beautifully, had a great low b, and looked great. I also have a Cort acoustic guitar, and, on my recommendation, my brother has a Cort GB34 bass.

First major disappointment, having sanded, filled and sealed, I finally plucked up the courage to have a go at spraying. The spraying itself has gone OK, not great, but with some sanding and further applications, it looks like I could be getting there, except for the big drawback. The spraying has revealed that the splits in the wood have reopened. All was great with the sanding sealer/shellac. Body felt nice an smooth, and I couldn't see or feel any of the cracks. Now the first couple of coats of paint are on and one of the larger cracks is showing really badly and a couple of smaller ones have reappeared. Time to strip back again and look at another form of filling/sealing.

Nice bit of listening from the drummer under the piano solo at 2:20ish. Liked that a lot. -
I think it is more one of those throwaway cliches that people use when they don't know what else to put when selling their band. Yes, it does come across as very abrasive and unnecessary.
